Google Chrome celebrates version 2 release with autofill, fast-paced video

We know you've been avoiding Chrome because it puts your most visited sites on a display the size of the JumboTron in Times Square, and we don't blame you. You don't need the folks in Accounts Receivable knowing every detail of your life (including all the time you spend in the Cat Fancy online forums). Well, you're in luck! Google's infamous browser is now officially out of beta, and has been designated version two -- and among the improvements is a feature that allows you to remove those pesky thumbnails from the browser home screen. Also in store for faithful users are such key features as Form Autofill and Full Screen Mode. Sadly, neither Linux or Mac users get to join the party just yet -- but we'll let you know as soon as that changes. Check out the video after the break.

There's a pretty simple solution to your problem -- start typing engadget into the chrome address bar, then scroll down to www.engadget.com and hit enter. Now chrome should be taught that whenever you start typing engadget, it should autofill the rest of the address, so all you have to do is type "e...." and hit enter. Lightning quick, and no need to fumble around with a new window.
Is it faster than Safari? Just wondering, if speed is increased 30% up.
Also can someone please tell me how to change my password on engadget? That would be nice. :)
Is there a StumbleUpon toolbar for Chrome yet? If there is I'll switch 'cos it's much faster than FF.
Stumbleupon is evil. Its better not to have it on chrome otherwise I would never do any work, or get any sleep!!
Is anyone using this now and likes it.
Maybe someday, when they're at about version 8, they'll get around to adding PRINT SETUP options.
Because I just love when a slightly-too-wide webpage prints out on four sheets of paper, because a side menu bar just inched over the margin.
I like how the Tabs are setup to be there own instance. But honestly this has to be the ugliest browser since IE6. Something about a giant blue non transparent chuck sitting on my window makes me want to puke.
Maybe you should turn on aero glass.
Hmm, just updated and it didn't let me autofill my email or password :-(
engadget happens to be my most viewed site.... followed by demonoid....
Between, when did engadget started posting browser news? Last time when Chrome released, engadget said they don't want cover browser related news. Surprised to see them covering chrome
Still no Linux support. Thats just to bad, it looks like I will continue to use Firefox. I don't want to deal with WINE or any other program to runn the software.
+1
I still use firefox, chrome is very slow for me. might be my laptop, not sure.
Dear Google,
Get back to me when you have Linux support.
Thank you.
Please name one feature that's missing that makes Chrome "unusable." I would argue that it's more usable than any other browser.
Does this have a google toolbar yet? cause that's a deal breaker for me...
And the answer is no. Install app, go to google toolbar page and it tells you to install Firefox 2 or later. Fail, possibly epic. Seriously what are the toolbar people doing? Their company's flagship browser is at version 2.0 and they still haven't made a toolbar for it.
They need to implement google toolbar version for Chrome already, it's one of the biggest reasons I haven't given it a fair shake.
wow... but not really a wow. Firefox still rules and specifically the cool new tab experience from http://www.newtabking.com. Googleplex - wake up!
I cant believe they can brag about Auto Fill as an improvement. Every other browser have had that for a Looooooooooong time!
Same goes for Full Screen. Come on Google, You can do better than this.
ability to run outlook web access full mode is needed for me, works with ie tab in firefox. but other than that, i use chrome. my mac however, even ie tab isn't compatible in firefox.
You guys do realize you could disable the oversized tab long before this release, right? It was already an option in 1.xx.
I want an option to delete temporary files upon program close!
Well since they continue to ignore Linux, I will continue to support Firefox!
he's introducting autocomplete and fullscreen like no ones ever seen it before
If they would just let us install it on a different drive!! If anyone knows how please.....
nice. lovin the update. how bout some plugins. anyone?
Plugins are enabled in the developer release. There just aren't any useful ones yet.
I have to say I quite like Google Chrome especially because it displays my most visited sites on the front page, where I can easily just pick one of them.
Sorry, until their pop-up blocker improves, not going back. Got sick of all-or-nothing option (add to safe list might be nice)
I like his IBM thinkpad
Horribly broken BACK button. Doesn't work on forum sites, and there's no fix in sight. Can't even roll-back to version 1.x. Back to Opera or Firefox again.
