Rogers to sell HTC Dream, Magic for $199.99 on contract

Canadians have had to wait quite a while to get their first official taste of Android, and even longer to know how much it'd cost, but it looks like that last detail has now finally been cleared up. According to The Boy Genius Report, Rogers will be asking the ever popular $199.99 for both the HTC Dream and HTC Magic on a three-year contract when they launch on June 2nd, or a hefty $649.99 off-contract. As Boy Genius points out, that's actually $100 more than the previously rumored off-contract price, which briefly spurred talk of a too-good-to-be-true $149.99 on-contract price.

This stinks! What is this rumbling of a better company coming out in 12 months in Canada? after reading the Nokia n97 article 2 days ago along with this i can't wait 12 months to upgrade from my 1st gen iphone...someone link me or send me details about this magical company that will save me from the shit that is rogers!...i just want a nice phone that will get me new friends like the n97 or the or these HTC android phones
Rogers is a bad monopoly that the Canadians have bought into. I have no idea why they haven't broken Rogers up.
probably because we have no choice. MY cell phone is gsm, they are the only provider, My internet is cable, they are the only provider, dsl competition is way to slow in comparison. They are the only tv cable provider, im not switching to satalite. They own our sports stadium. If I want to watch a baseball game, I have to pay them.
Thats why they are a monopoly. Super rich, super evil, and were all with them, but that doesnt mean we want to be. Just about everyone whos with rogers hates them, its no secret, and rogers knows this. Thats why they fought hard to keep competition out, but they lost. In another year or so, their decade long reign of terror will be over, at least on the cell market.
@ 007craft, Can't say it any better than that.
I highly doubt that Rogers will release the two android devices unless they have 850/1900 mhz for data. Rogers actually has decent voice plans IMHO, but where they will soon need to become competitive is in messaging and DATA which both need to become unlimited or virtually unlimited in the next 12-18 months. Its also pretty ridiculous that caller ID and voicemail are considered "add ons" what a joke.
As far as why someone does not come along and break up this monopoly, the government and the anti-trust laws are weak and this allows all sort of monopolisitc behaviour to persist. And I think with the size of land mass we have up here, I think regional carriers and infrastructure sharing is an inevitability for any new carriers.
Fido FTW!
Assuming this thing will be released to Rogers with 850/1900 3G it looks like those of us on ATT hungry for an Android device that can do more than EDGE will finally have our wish come true. Hopefully this will end up on MCO or another store unlocked/unbranded relatively shortly after debuting, and uh, hopefully not for $650.
