Liquid-cooled desk contains full-fledged PC, won't be sold at Ikea
We've heard of productive work spaces, but this thing has feng shui written all over it. The geeks and gurus over at Popular Mechanics were able to mix their construction and PC building skills in order to create the rather astounding desk that you see above. Aside from serving a purpose as a desk, looking fantastic and being next to impossible to keep clean, it's also a full-fledged computer. Packed within is a half-gallon of glycol, twin 300GB VelociRaptor hard drives, a GeForce GTX 280 GPU, seven fans, a Sony Blu-ray drive, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 3GHz Core 2 Quad processor and copious amounts of "win." Check the read link for a how-to guide... if you dare.

this will be EPIC WIN if it's installed with WINDOWS.
Even more win if it's Ubuntu!
Yeah, WIN is Ubuntu's middle name...
Even more if no OS is installed in the first place, so people can decide which OS they want to use depending on their needs.
WIN-dows.
It's amazing how few people understood your joke.
Are u Gadget from PS3...? LOL its GLOCK....
@ josephmohmed
If you still want to do this the frame is made from 8020 extrusion from what I can tell

if its liquid cooled, y dose it need 7 fans?
i thought liquid cooled dosnt need fans
bcoz,
WIN + 7 fan = WIN 7 IS EPIC WIN!!!
get it?
Thank you! Now I know exactly what I want for my next desk. It's awesome!
I didn't know neon was one of the elements of feng shui.
Pretty cool, but you think the gurus at popular mechanics would make a "cooler" desk than this. I am not a fan of the basic rectangle desk, but the computer inside is pretty cool!
Look again. The desk is curved.
You used the words "fan" and "cooler" in your post, yet neither were in reference to lowering the computer temperature.
Ha.
EPIC WIN
You'd be pissed if a component failed :P
As opposed to how good you usually feel when components fail in a regular desktop?
har har
Not really. With the exception of the touchpad, these are all standardized parts. A failure in any part is much easier to service and replace than, say, a mostly proprietary solution from a large company such as Dell, Falcon, Alienware, etc. The removable acrylic top makes it especially easy to access components and fix issues. All in all, this is a much more easily maintained computer than a pre-fab one.
I love how everyone is sorta making jokes, then you have that one "really serious guy" that types up a whole paragraph.
That was exactly my first thought. I was also wondering, what if you have a cold drink or something on the table... Would there be a condensation issue on the other side of the table top???

I do believe this is THE coolest/most awesome case mod I've ever seen. I so want to try to make it myself, to bad I don't have mad skills like that.
hear that, case modders? It's taken years, but we've finally reached the apex of case mods with... the desk!
Yeah - This is one of the first mods that's actually appeales to me. If I had some extra cash, I would definitely try building one.
Common Man it wouldn't be hard to replicate / improve this design at all.
- The materials are extremely basic; you could design them in any CAD program in a pretty short amount of time.
- Once you know the bolt patters for everything you can do the hole lay out in the acrylic and have it water jetted. Also adding an opening in the top acrylic for a small USB farm would be sweet.
Plus adding some hinges so you can can open the front or rear panel would add functionality
it will sure have tremendous amount of WIN if it's time for...
...RECESSION ANTIDOTE!!!
This is really starting to get just as annoying as all the other memes that thankfully died out over time...
Can it play Pong?
@jperry
"Recession Antidote" isn't a meme. It's an imaginary contest for the sole purpose of boosting replies thereby padding subscriber numbers to show advertisers.
@ sweet greggo I actually won a Joby Gorillapod from Recession Antidote.
@greggo
You've almost got it right. It's a REAL contest for the sole purpose of boosting replies thereby padding subscriber numbers to show advertisers. Coincidentally, this article's sole purpose is also to pad subscriber number to show advertisers. In fact, EVERY post has that purpose. Weird, it's almost as if... it's their BUSINESS MODEL to boost subscribers and sell advertising.
Boo!
@Tonicboy,
Bravo!
Talk about space saving
Correction: "Packed within is a ... a Sony Bag-of-Hurt™."
remember this is a desk computer, not to be confused with a desktop computer.
wow, that's an awesome idea
Didn't this already get posted a week or so ago??
Yes on Gizmodo
Awesome idea, i'll have to try that one day!!!
Seven fans?
yea this sounds great for libraries and quiet rooms
You mean where they do things like reading articles?
Those kinds of places?
When is this gonna be the reccesion antidote ?
Neat.
sweet!
petite!
They went to all that trouble and then added cheap ass speakers with the cables trailing, Well Done!
You beat me to it. Honestly the speakers make it look like a completely amateur job. Not to mention the fact that there's a lot of wasted space inside the desk and the wiring/tubing job isn't exactly professional. Having those cathode lights just out in the open like that is so ugly.
I hate to sound like such a downer, but I've seen this thing posted on twenty different sites now and I don't understand all the love. Head over to any modding community (like the HardOCP forums) and you'll see dozens of Joe Schmoes with much better mods with much better execution.
DO WANT!!!!
me too.
