Icron's ExtremeUSB-based PC-on-TV tech goes wireless
Icron's PC-on-TV solution has been out and about since late last year, but we'd venture to say that adoption in the consumer market has been minimal at best. 'Course, the bevy of internet-to-TV set-top boxes that have emerged in the meanwhile certainly haven't help its cause, and the whole "wired Ethernet" requirement was also a real deal-breaker, ladies. Now, it seems as if the company is looking to leapfrog those who leapfrogged it by showcasing a wireless (802.11n) solution at the Connections Digital Living Conference. The product is still based around its ExtremeUSB technology, which passes along VGA / USB signals from a PC to a TV so that your computer can be fully seen and controlled on your den's HDTV. Unfortunately, two critical data points are still missing: first, there's no expected release date, and second, there's no independent reports on how well all of this works sans cabling.

is that counter-strike source being played?
sure looks like it, lol. CSS is awesome, but not exactly at the forefront of gaming technology and graphics.
Hmm why cant i just connect my pc to my hdtv's pc input? Why must i buy one of these products?
why don't all these loser companies get off their arses and put together a HomePlugAV solution.
I run a mixed Netgear/Monster Power Net 200 Homeplug environment around the house with 5 nodes and 13 devices and everything has full speed access which kills wireless.
I've also done installs of this tech since plain old HomePlug 1.0 and it's actually always worked well.
I'd love to see one of these with the TrendNet HomePlugAV powered (literally, the power cable is the node, those guys are ahead of the curve) 802.11g (yeah, thats the downside) router.
Everything except a notebook has to have a power plug. The new NetGear devices have 1 pass through Power leads, and the Monster with 2 leads and clean powered are getting discontinued which is a shame (Monster never let you 'administer' these but the Netgear software is great, it'll admin any homeplug av unlike the linksys which ONLY looks for THIER Homeplug av equipment. ).
+1 for the 30 Rock reference.
I'll pay $30
I've been reading about this on their website. The reason you would get one is so you don't have to buy a second pc. You could have your pc upstairs and use this to send the AV to the TV downstairs. The box you put by the TV has usb ports so you can use a keyboard and mouse. They also say it can run over Cat5, WiFi, Coax and powerline. It sounds promising but Icron is not developing the product. Only the Technology. That's what I was told by one of their techs when I sent an email six months ago. The question is who will implement this into an actual product, when can we get one and how much will it cost. It better be cheaper than buying an actual HTPC to hook to th TV. If not, it seems pointless!
Thanks Scott, I admit I was also a little lost there.
Another set top box, maybe we should just put the flat panel TVs inside the old projections television box frames and stack all the set top boxes together inside of it. Atleast we wouldn't have to look at them. It seems like a descent idea but one that should be incorporated directly into the television itself. No wires , wireless key board and mouse. Without that, I don't see much use for this maybe if I could use both at the same time I don't see much of a point though. Is it smaller then a net top? I can't see the image but doubtful. One could just run a net top with an atom 230/330 in it and get enough quality computing most would want from a PCTV.
