Nokia Ovi Store now live everywhere
We've just gotten word that Nokia has officially flipped the switch on the Ovi Store everywhere, which means you lucky Aussies, Irish, and Singaporeans just lost your coveted exclusivity. Nokia recommends that you hit up store.ovi.com from your phone's browser to start pumping thousands of euros into Espoo's (and, of course, developers') pockets, so get to it, won't you? Seriously, the economy isn't going to stimulate itself.

I'm so addicted to engadget. :)
Kamokazi @ May 26th 2009 2:16AM
Then I recommend my 3 step program to curing your addiction:
The first step involes walking off a sheer 1,000 foot cliff.
Don't worry about the second or third step. No one ever needs those.
Hmm...now that I think about it, that might be my 3 step program to stopping annoying first posts. Oh well.

This app is available for your Nokia handset. Click.... .... ..... ....
This app is NOT available for your Nokia handset.
Nokia can build an app store, but they still can't get the look and feel quite right. I guess using a copier in place of R&D can only take you so far.
What the heck do they even need an Ovi app store for? You can get applications for Symbian cellphones all over the internet. They don't need the store to generate hardware sales like Apple since they're the market leader. No point in using the same business model as Apple, because the Nokia user is nothing like an iPhone user. I be waiting for the press to call this a huge failure. Especially if it's going to be compared to the Apple App Store.

"No point in using the same business model as Apple, because the Nokia user is nothing like an iPhone user"
Right you are. Nokia users don't know what the underside of Steve Jobs' chode tastes like.
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 2:22AM
I'm checking now and if nokia doesnt give me anything new for free than im done with nokia forever. Apple has tons of free apps and game and nokia has none, i just checked downloads I dont see ovi store? maybe im not doing something right...
AndrewNoNumbers @ May 26th 2009 8:12PM
You.
Are.
Hilarious.
sean @ May 26th 2009 2:27AM
Do you wish to download ovi store for faster browsing.....yes "this Item is no longer available"
jpxdude @ May 26th 2009 2:28AM
Trying to download the Ovi store program via the link in my 5800 browser, but it says that it isn't available anymore! doh!
If anyone has got a nokia 5800XM, what process have you used to download the Ovi store application? I had a browse around the store itself on my laptop, and its not really that great at the moment, did notice they had 666 apps available for my phone apparently.
roole @ May 26th 2009 9:59AM
Heh heh.... sounds like this thing is a complete disaster. Figures.....

@roole
You mean like MobileMe was?
Anyway...
As most Nokia smartphone owners know, Nokia's first attempt at firmware/software is usually a bit crap. The good news is that they're very quick at fixing and improving things so I expect Ovi to evolve over the coming months.
That said, it's not been a glorious launch and Nokia's PR department would have been better spinning this out as a Beta rather than proclaiming it as a milestone. This is further evidence that Nokia's marketing department are absolutely rubbish and need to be emptied as soon as possible.
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 2:29AM
Ok its garbage so far, i can't find the ovi store app to download, so if i browse the site it wants to send a text message then I have to download the app, it asks me to sign in from my phone and then tells me password invalid
wtf
Zane @ May 26th 2009 2:36AM
You can download the app when it appears in the Download! store. The link to download the Ovi store is not working at the moment for some reason.
The link your clicking on is to send the specific app to your phone to download...it'll just direct you to the website.
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 2:34AM
Maybe someone can just find a ovi store .sis file and upload it somewhere for us
michael @ May 26th 2009 2:43AM
try typing in http://store.ovi.com into your device's mobile browser -- that should take you to a XHTML site for Ovi Store.
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 2:46AM
I do that, it asks me to login, I login i select an app it sends my phone a text i click the text, it asks for a login and pass, I put the same one in and it says its wrong =/
Id rather just have the nokia store app on my phone, but its not in downloads for me
amu @ May 26th 2009 2:40AM
Wow, some of the apps from the website seem pathetic. The store is just like MOSH, most, if not all, of the apps are java ports :( . No wonder Nokia said it had plenty of apps already.
kermit24 @ May 26th 2009 2:42AM
"Device incompatible"? garbage! Nokia E71x should be totally compatible. Nokia needs to support the USA now!
namtastic @ May 26th 2009 9:57AM
Sadly, this is why you need to buy unlocked phones. E71 is definitely supported, E71x probably isn't yet because AT&T hasn't come to an agreement on deployment/billing. :(
namtastic @ May 26th 2009 3:43PM
Via PCMag (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2347648,00.asp):
"No US carrier branded phones work with the Ovi Store. That said, the signed agreement with AT&T will allow Nokia devices available through AT&T (like Nokia E71x) to access the Ovi Store in the future," Nokia spokesman Joe Gallo said.
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 2:42AM
Maybe its time to go back to the iphone , I am seriously let down. I expected a few free games or apps like apple has. sigh
Malkmus @ May 26th 2009 3:12AM
Jeeze, your posts are annoying. How about you stop whining that there aren't free apps until you actually get to the Ovi store. You're statements make no sense. First you complain that they better have free apps or you're done with Nokia, then right after that you magically decide that there are no free apps when there clearly are (there's an entire section for it). Then you declare it as garbage. Then we find out you still don't have access to it. Just take a breath and have some patience, it just went live a few hours ago, there's going to be some hiccups. In the meantime, just browse the site on your computer. Although, honestly, I don't think you deserve to.
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 3:21AM
Look asshat the ovi store is online you can browse the apps that way or via the app, ive seen the apps online at the store, they suck. But considering how much my stupid nokia phone costs I would at least like to preform some of the normal functions Iphone users get ok?
malkmus @ May 26th 2009 3:33AM
Who's the asshat, me or the guy complaining that there aren't any free apps when there's an entire section devoted to it? On top of that you have 6 posts asking people how to get the Ovi app, when the article has nothing to do with downloading the app. It clearly states "Nokia recommends that you hit up store.ovi.com from your phone's browser". The article never even mentioned downloading the app because more morons like you would be going "I can't find it, Nokia sucks". So, again, relax. The download app just isn't available in your region yet. Use the browser in the meantime.
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 3:45AM
Regardless the store has nothing worth the effort really and is a major let down
Newone @ May 26th 2009 4:49AM
Its the march of apple middleaged juvenile delinquets, please ignore them.
Mark Anderson @ May 26th 2009 5:17AM
I just downloaded it through Download! You may have to hit refresh content for it come up.
I've not had time to look at it properly but on the face of it I like the look of it. You will need an Ovi account though if you don't have one already.
My bet is that it'll be like most Nokia software - a bit clunky to begin with but awesome after an update.
dolapo10 @ May 26th 2009 6:52AM
Its a lie i sure you don't have a nokia nor an iphone, you just want attention
sanriver12 @ May 26th 2009 8:11AM
digitallysick please just die
christopher @ May 26th 2009 2:48AM
@digitallysick, if you get the Ovi Store client through Download!, then you can filter content by "Free Only" using the left softkey menu. Just click "Options"
digitallysick @ May 26th 2009 2:51AM
can't get the client through download, doesnt show it for me in downloads
Awjvail @ May 26th 2009 3:10AM
Am I the only one who thinks that Chris is way too lenient in classifying a story as "breaking"?
Like... cripes!
Malkmus @ May 26th 2009 3:21AM
It's a cellphone blog. Breaking news is going to consist of stories such as the activation of an online app store that people have been waiting over a year for and could possibly make or a break a major phone corporation.
Awjvail @ May 26th 2009 9:38PM
No... this is a gadget blog. Engadget Mobile is a cell phone blog.
christopher @ May 26th 2009 3:13AM
@digitallysick, it might depend on your device in terms of what folder the client becomes available in and when it becomes available. if you have an extras folder, you could look there for client download/installer.
chaitanyabio @ May 26th 2009 3:20AM
hey everybody i can see ovi icon in my download section its working gr8
Michael @ May 26th 2009 3:26AM
Site seems to be down.
I can't get the page to load.
videomilk @ May 26th 2009 3:27AM
Ummm yeah it's working great for me on my e71. I've downloaded about 10 free apps. Some are ok, some are great, some suck. Such is life. But yeah I'm just downloading the free ones at this stage.
jpxdude @ May 26th 2009 3:29AM
Great, OVI store has just appeared in my Download! section :) downloading and checking out now. Those having problems should go to Options -> Refresh Content once in the Download! section, and it should appear (hopefully)
i am peanut @ May 26th 2009 3:33AM
sweet.. it's working for me now.
thanks for the tip.
using it on my 5800
L.Rawlins @ May 26th 2009 4:22AM
Cheers fella. That worked a treat.
jpxdude @ May 26th 2009 3:34AM
From the Ovi Store app, I go to launch it, and it stays on Loading... for about 1.5 minutes, then comes up with Socket Closed! message. Does anyone else get this problem??
jpxdude @ May 26th 2009 3:35AM
Nevermind, went into the app a couple more times and all is working now! Guess Nokia servers must be taking a beating right now.
jpxdude @ May 26th 2009 3:55AM
Ok, had a good look around. By far, the best free application on the Ovi store at the moment is QIK! Works amazingly well on the Nokia 5800 with the live stream and geotagging. I know it was on the MOSH service before, but it felt a lot better downloading through the Ovi store.
Adrian B @ May 26th 2009 4:10AM
No content for N73. Is this an error? Is the store only targeted at certain models? Does it hate me?
Misund007 @ May 26th 2009 5:45AM
If you click on "not my model" you will see the full list of all the models supported - N73 should be in there
Mo @ May 26th 2009 5:41AM
wow it's so slow takes 4-5 mins to brows 2-3 apps on pc not on the phone
decon @ May 26th 2009 5:39AM
Seems really slow so far.
Misund007 @ May 26th 2009 5:43AM
Have been browsing the store, looks good but a bit slow at the moment - so much better then MOSH was
