Tony Hawk's Ride coming to GameStop October 13th for $120

How much would you spend to pull a faux ollie? How about $120? That'll be the damage due according to GameStop where Tony Hawk's Ride game with skateboard peripheral lists for $119.99 with a simultaneous Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 launch on October 13th. Until then, grab some some griptape and mom's salad bowl and get to practicing.

I wonder how much a decent skateboard costs. >_>
sounds about right for a startup board. It just seems to me I'd be likely to break this piece of plastic than an actual deck which makes me want to opt for the real deal.
you can find completes at almost any skate shop at that price lol
attaching trucks to the controller would make the motions so much more fun.. but i'm sure it would make it too dangerous for most peoples houses.
they should have just made a techdeck sized controller e.e
I really don't get it. I love video games, but if your going through this much money and effort just learn to skateboard.
I thought the point of skating games was to do crazy things that were basically impossible but you felt really cool when you did a 1080 backflip over a house.
what the hell is grindtape?
griptape engadget D:
hurr in my durr
Griptape is the stuff on top of a skateboard that feels like sandpaper.
Don't worry, I don't understand the last line either.
I think 120 dollars is kind of ridiculous for this thing. I mean I ride a real skateboard, so I guess I'm the target market... but the game still looks cheesy to me, and those arcade games with the peripheral were some of the worst things I've ever played. Not to mention you aren't actually meant to kickflip and do shoves with this board... I'm thinking people are going to do it on instinct anyway and destroy the thing.
Napalm Death- Scum on cassette is a grind tape
WHAT IDIOTS.
Learn some product design from Apple you LOSERS.
Yeah of course, for give you the occasion to scream APPLE RIPOFF!!!
Go back to your TUAW cavern, you troll.
I don't know, it seems pretty overpriced. Seems to me they've got the main Apple "product design" down. ;)
You can get a really decent skateboard for £120 in the UK. Not much more than this :S
ok. i'll just go and get me some of that *grindtape*
Achievements: "Perform A Kickflip Without Breaking Your Feet."
"Break Your Face."
"Don't Look Like An Idiot."
"Play This Game For 200 Houres And Still Don't Know How To Skate."
"Realise Guitar Hero-Like Ripp-Off"
Don't cry... buy!
Don't forget, "Play this game long enough to figure out what houres means"
Honestly don't know what people are complaining about. In Ireland games usually cost 60 euro each new, that would mean the Skateboard would be 25 euro extra, I don't know what the fuss is about, its not that bad a deal (even though I wont be buying one new anyway, waiting for the loads of people selling it because they don't like it.
Games over here are less expensive probably due to cost of living (about $60 U.S.D. or around 43 Euro) ... so to get the added board, it'll be twice as much as a normal game for us. Most controllers here cost around $40 (29 Euro), so $99.99 (72 Euro) board controller plus game is more reasonable, but still not worth it.
What happens when some one falls off, or falls face first into the tv, hope they can avoid lawsuits
I'm sure after the Wii mote fiasco they will include warnings for every type of ridiculous accident they can think off.
Warning: Please wear a Helmet, Kneepads, Ensure you're Walls and Floor are padded, that there are no other people within a 50mile radius, and that you have the ablity to levitate incase you fall. Should you not meet any of these requirements, then you use this game at your own risk.
I'm just waiting for videos of dimwits riding these down carpeted stairs and off of roofs...and...wake boarding!
i want that for a snowboarding game :D
Why is this being touted as such a revolution considering the wired variant of it was available years ago for PlayStation 2's? I played on them and they were terrible, so I haven't exactly got high hopes for this.
No one seems to appreciate the fact that the game comes with the board so the board itself is only 60 bucks.
Also, if this board is meant for flips, etc. and not just a glorified balance board; I would rather pay more upfront if it meant it was stronger and would last longer. Of course, I will never buy this, but I'm just saying.
There's a lot of force being exerted on it and what does everyone expect? There's a reason why no one has bothered with this before and soon everyone will be reminded why to never do it again.
Whelp, it comes out in October which, in my neck of the woods means snow is just around the corner. This is a way for kids to skateboard with their friends in the winter. Not as cool, but stats and achievements will keep them competitive.
How much weight do you think this thing can handle?
I'm just picturing some fat ass gamer trying kick-flip to manual (or equivalent of for this game) and cracking that thing in half..
Tony hawk's RIDE...where you get taken for a ride before you even ride. This is going to be a total failure. They'll be lucky if one person pick this up on release date. And if you are that person...you are one idiot.
Naww. I'm good with all the guitar hero/rockband stuff gathering dust sitting next to my old P4 computer. No thanks
At my current weight, using one of those skateboard peripherals would just end in tears. I'll stick with a standard controller or, if I'm feeling adventurous, a dance pad.
I think that this is a great idea. I'm wondering if other game company's will take advantage of this new controller.
So October 13th release, so that night we will have videos on youtube with skateboards sticking out of tv's. That will be great..... right????
Man, the TH series was great while it lasted. I'll never pay that much for this game.
I was playing skate 2 the other day, and thinking the graphics were pretty great, and then I remembered thinking thps2 was amazing graphics.. Man, kids just don't appreciate such things today. I'm keeping my NES just so my kids can use it as their first console and go WTF? I'm sure 8bit will look even better scaled to a 1440p tv. Right?
Maybe if this was the first Tony Hawk skateboarding game ever ... it would be worth the price.
$120 is just too high for most people. Why go past the $99.99 mark?
I can't wait until someone makes a game that combines all these peripheral into one game...I want to sing, DJ, and Skateboard at the same time damn it!
Ya, wow. A real skateboard is not even that much.
Maybe if you bought one of those Mike McGill ones from Wal-Mart.
I just know someone is going to kickflip this thing into their HD set and then we'll have some kind of ankle leash like the Wiimote. And presto - the fun is gone. If it was there at all.
but where else would they go with this series? button mashers are sweet but TH has done that kinda to death. i feel like this is a good way to revamp the series, (probably too expensive...) so yea theyre jumpin on the broken "let me buy fake things that cost more than real things so i can feel cool but not actually in front of other people" bandwagon but hey, i at least agree that im psyched to see crazy pics of these through tvs
Holy crap. For the last decade, anybody could simply pick up a controller and pwn their peers with no knowledge of skateboarding.
The tables have turned, my friend.
Muahaha!
hmm. what percentage of people do you think will move on to the real thing after using this (or guitarhero, drumset, dj)?
i LOVE it. it's sooo cheap, that's such a low price. u guys are such big cry-babies. dnt u guys have to be getting breast fed rite about now anyways?
