Electro-Harmonix Overdrive pedal just became a Rock Band 2 necessity
The avoirdupois of the world rests on your shoulders as you await the mind-numbing riffs of Painkiller. You wonder how you'll prevent yourself from engaging in overdrive prematurely as your locks bang to and fro. Then you look down and see EHX's Overdrive pedal a stone's throw from your left foot. Exhale.

How long has this bass been around? That isn't the Mad Catz wired one...
That said, you're just paying for the "authenticity" of this thing, it's because it's from a company that makes real ones. Just buy a connector, some wire, and a 30 cent pushbutton and tape it to a brick if you really want this.
Oh, never mind. The PS3 one is wireless and red. It is the Mad Catz bass.
Am I the only one that just hits the Select button on the guitar with their palm to activate Star Power? Why pay $30 for a button that already exists on the guitar?
Oh no.
Why watch porn? Go have sex with a real woman. OH WAIT, for that you would need a woman to actually want to have sex with you.
They must have added Mudhoney songs to guitar hero.
what they should have done is make the pedal work for rock band and a real distortion switch on a guitar amp. It would have been that hard to do. And im talking about a switch not a distortion pedal talking to all the dumb asses that are going to say something stupid.
I would say, by the time someone buys this thing, they very well could have gotten a starter guitar, amp, and a cheap distortion pedal, but anyway, this doesn't even add anything new to the game since people can already "overdrive" by tilting the guitar or pressing a button on it. These rhythm games are failing hard and are milking their games as much as possible without adding anything new. But then again, if everyone went and learned real guitar, there would be a wave of new guitarists playing GH3 songs and all and it would cause much sadness. Besides, showing off on guitar hero and rock band is so much more awesome than playing a song on real guitar.
normally i would look up the word "avoirdupois", but i'm not going to bother because i assume engadget has screwed up just one more word in a long , long, Long, litany of misprints, to the extent that it is now quite commonplace.
jk, i know what it means, but still.
it's a fuzz, not an overdrive
God I love Frets on Fire. I had this months ago, just mapped "Star Power" To spacebar, and stuck my keyboard on the flood. Used my X360 Guitar Hero 3 Wireless Guitar with the gaming receiver for windows, and Im playing. Bang. My game was free, my songs are free, my guitar on the other hand, cost a arm and a leg. I dont need a freaking $30 pedal. Now you console players, have fun dishing out more money, for a $30 button in a box.
Just rig it with some C4.
Being a guitarist myself I definititely fall into the "go pick up a REAL instrument" camp. But thats only because i've seen the price of these guitar controllers. I have no issue with playing games (i'm an xbox/wii owner myself) its just when people are BUYING a guitar controller for more than the price of a decent second hand guitar that it starts to get rediculas. In my day you simply bought the games console then the games and then had fun. I can't believe how much games specifi hardware is being developed and sold!
I play guitar but had literally hundreds of hours of fun with Guitar Hero with friends too.. But IMO it is getting out of hand..
A stomp box just to activate star power?
Drums?
DJ Hero?
Surely buying some actual electronic drums or some decks would be so much more satisfying?
These games give people instant satisfaction and when they eventually try to pick up a real instrument, they will be discouraged that they cant actually play Through the Fire and the Flames on a real guitar without a few years of hard work.
I actually think we will see a big drop in the quality / skill of actual musicians over the next decade or so because of these games
We already have Chad Kroeger. How much lower can we go?
NATURALLY they would use the crappy Eh version. If it's not Sovtek, it's not a Big Muff.
