Medion's Akoya P7700 D PC will do your multimedia right on a budget
There are little HTPCs that hum indiscreetly amidst your home theater equipment, and then are there behemoth multimedia PCs that gobble down all the HD content you can shove at them while playing Crysis at 80fps and folding proteins in the background. Medion's Akoya P7700 D looks to fall somewhere in between, featuring a strong Intel Core 2 Quad processor, a middling NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 with HDMI output, 1TB of storage to start, and a Blu-ray drive all in a case that has pleasant enough looks but won't be squeezing into many entertainment centers. The system hits Europe this week for a reasonable €699 (about $970), and if you get lucky could be appearing in local Aldi circulars soon.

Not bad at all... especially if there's an option to replace that GTX 230 which something more "desktop worthy".
Two GTX 230's?
My bad, meant to reply under him.
test
I've been out of the loop for awhile, are premade desktops still overpriced compared to building your own?
Yeah, although this one is pretty reasonably priced, considering that it has a blu ray drive, which are at least 100$, a processor that's about 200$, 100$ video card, 100$ ram, 100$ hard drive, Vista: 90$, mainboard+case+power: 100ish$, 802.1 N-draft.., . It still is (barely) more expensive than purchasing individual components, and you won't have as long of a warranty (all ram, many video cards have lifetime warranties) but this pc has a 3 year warranty , so if you are looking for a desktop, this is a much better deal than a Dell, or god forbid, an Apple 'desktop'.
What the heck is a GT 230? not usa available? This is all I could find about it: http://www.siliconmadness.com/2009/02/nvidia-gt218-spotted-upcoming-geforce.html
Could be typo and really be at gtx 250, then this pc is a sweet deal.
If not a typo then really the GT 230 is the news, not the pc.
Medion (a German company) usually delivers ALDI (German, too) and Metro (also German), and they always grill an extra brat - they get special versions of video cards since decades. MSI is producing these cards for MSI, so don't bother finding one of these cards in retail.
My guess is, they are crippled GTX250s.
it could be a rebranded 9600
Actually, the medion website ( medion.de ) also says that it's a "NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 230 DirectX® 10" (copy&paste from the website http://www.medion.com/ms/aldi/md8848/nord/ )
but thats not rly new as Medion is known for some strange variation in Product Names...
Darn it - "MSI is producing these cards for MSI" - I mean MSI for ALDI!!! ;()
Well, might be ok specs, but you should never buy pcs from Aldi. They have horrible warranty rules, e.g. if u want to install XP instead of standard Vista you'll void the warranty....
Custom built media PC to play blue ray and other videos to 42 inch TV about 400$
Custom built Gaming PC to crack open an atom while showing Crysis who is daddy about 1700$
Using all your monthly allowance to build your dream system, Priceless.
For bills, rent, underwear, and a few boxes of piazza there are credit cards...
$%$^ the banks......
Don't be silly Tim... no machine can play Crysis at 80fps!
This is my first post by the way.
