An incredible way to start the weekend, Storm owners: Verizon is finally pulling the trigger on a firmware update, which will be available to all comers starting on Sunday at 3PM Eastern time. If that's too much trouble, you'll alternatively be able to sit back, chill, and wait for the over-the-air version to hit, which should follow on at 10PM. Verizon tells us that it'll be releasing 4.7.0.148, as
rumored -- just a tiny bump from the
failed build 141 that had been rumored before that, but all told, far, far too long since the last official update was rolled out. We can only assume this has been tested better than a NASA launch at this point, so you're on notice, guys.
can't have the proverbial cake and eat it too
which would you rather have:
- multiple updates that are buggy?
- a single update that is solid?
I'm guessing that anybody who is of speaking age would say the 2nd option. Releasing a buggy OS causes more problems than delaying a solid one.
We all know it's about time. But now it's coming, so let's just be happy that we got something instead of berating everything.
Jesus Finally!! I was just thinking about this today, eagerly desiring this availability... I must have ESP... any takers?
And most of us who are gadget freaks have already been using this update for about two weeks.
people who have been on .75 for all this time are going to be blown away by how much better their phone is about to become.
Truthfully, i just updated it and haven't seen much of a change yet.
Yeah Right!
I will stick to my Hybrid 5.0.0.93+4.7.0.148 works fine... people are not stuck on .75 if they really wanted to upgraded to 148 or a hybrid nothing is stopping the BIS users, if your on BES, and likely not paying for the service/phone whats the difference, if it doesn't work well thats between you and your IT person. Still could have an unofficial 148 if your company let u.
What the hell are you talking about? O yeah, fanboi-talk re: Verizon's failed golden boy.
It's just funny how many software updates that thing needs.
The BB 9630 needs to come out already.
and yet we VZW Omnia users are still suffering with crippled GPS chips, WEEKS after Verizon said it would free the chips to use Google Maps. VZW said it would do this in the first quarter of 2009; doesn't anybody at the office have a calendar???
This'll be my last VZW phone, I guess. I like the network- but I like getting what I paid for, as well.
GPS was unlocked by Samsung in a software upgrade a month ago. I already have it on my Omnia... So, I guess a little research wouldn't hurt =)
Just my 2 cents...
My GPS has been working with various apps for a cpouple of months now... Works great.
Whats that wallpaper?
i like that theme.. where did they get it from ?
Well here it is as predicted 3:16 Eastern and what do ya know last update was December 2008..... o well.... just as I predicted another joke by engadgetmobile...
www.blackberry.com/update
or just wait until tuesday and you'll have your choice of OTA, DM, or the BlackBerry website.
Just started OTA upgrade 1.7.0.148. Its a 22 MB update.
couldn't get my phone to see the new version when checking for updates...what's the trick all you techies???
Just do it from the BB manager on your comp. I had issues with the phone's self updater as well.
But dang, this update is like night and day for someone who was still on the first BB storm OS :P
Ran the .148 update on my phone, replacing .75 It's MUCH faster, and the portrait keyboard is a big improvement. The response time of the camera is no longer a joke. Under ideal conditions, it can now be used.
The Storm hasn't crashed since the update, so stability is probably not any worse than before, possibly better.
It's STILL not as nice as an iPhone, and I'm less than thrilled with the touchscreen keyboard. I have a newfound appreciation for physical keys. Next time I will look for a handheld with a sliding display that reveals a true keyboard.
DLed the .148 ...its faster and smoother but I noticed some weird ticks, anyone getting these?
when playing music, text msg or call comes in, but and music does not continue playback after msg notification completes/call ends (I use it through car audio speakers)
tethering and browser access ok until this morning @ 10ish am PST, disconnections came in spurts in accessing internet via tethering or bb handset. Battery pull/reset Data connection/*228 reset registration all unsuccessful until annoying phoncall to VZW @ 5:00pm resulting in simple battery pull resolved the issue. (BB 'network' declared down) For me it was showing 1x ev instead of UPPERCASE 1X EV, preventing proper connection via tethering or handset browser...
Jesus Christ.. how many months since .75 and various leaks and rejections by Red and still this crap.. what a joke.. praying that Storm2 is the answer.... or maybe just 3rd time's a charm.
