Dell's Mini 10v gets unboxed, cracked wide open, fitted with OS X
Not that Dell's other Mini machines aren't perfect candidates for creating your own hackintosh, but it's stellar to know that the outfit's newest member is as well. After going on sale earlier this month, the Mini 10v has been procured, unboxed and dissected, all in the name of unabashed discovery. Interestingly, it seems as if the RAM slot requires that the keyboard and motherboard be lifted for access, but for even the mildly seasoned computer user, that's absolutely nothing they can't handle. If you're into hardcore, uncensored splayings of newfangled netbooks, the read link is where you need to be, holmes.

I am always amazed by the massive amount of effort (and cash) expended by fanbois to kiss the feet of their savior (who wouldn't pee on them if they were on fire).
Paying money to live inside a walled garden topped with razor wire. Wow.
I especially like the "top notch hardware" argument. Yeah, tell that to my two-year-old white plastic MacBook. The palmrest is cracking, the screen flickers, and I've been through two MagSafe adaptors due to excessive fraying.
Yep, that screams top quality right there. This thing doesn't even get moved that much, it mostly sits on my desk.
The cracked palm rest and frayed mag safe adaptor are know issues and will be replaced for free at the Apple Store because of this. Even out of warrantee or Apple care protection. You can only ask about the screen.
Wow it seems like OSx86 is like herpes now, once a laptop gets naked it catches it...
Well, it'll run Windows and OSX ... great. Does it have an Ubuntu version yet? (considering the mini-9 did, and the mini-9 is going away now)
Or does anyone know if it's fully ubuntu ready?
Yes it is. Although it is an old version. It is delivered with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, Mini Standard Edition.
I am a french user I get a Mini dell 9" OSX works well.
My question
Is it possible to install OSX retail.
Thanks
oups I forgot the type of mini dell
my question is for the mini 10v
I buy Apple hardware when applicable because I appreciate the work Apple does and respect that by playing within' the rules as long as Apple has an offering that fits my needs. One category they do not fill are small, inexpensive, virtually disposable netbooks...so I buy Dell and Hackintosh it. :)
Arguments like "better hardware" only apply to specific parts of certain models..like the type of screen they use in the 24" iMacs which is well above any TFT panel out there.
DO NOT order the Mini10...Dell has a huge shortage on these netbooks and I have been waiting over 40 days for it....terrible Customer Service. I ordered on May 11th and I still have not received mine yet....Dell.com shows estimated delivery date of 6/30/09
