ASUS Mars GPU hands-on at Computex
We knew it was coming, and come it did. Over in Taiwan today, ASUS was demonstrating its motherboard-incinerating Mars graphics card, which it proudly deemed "the world's fastest." In fact, the card packs 21 percent more power than a reference GeForce GTX 295 card, and the eight-heatpipe cooling solution keeps things at least a notch below molten. We found that the card will actually be sold in some capacity, though only 1,000 of them -- all of which will be individually numbered -- will be made available. Two more looks after the break.

Yes but will it play Crysis.....2?
Beat me to it...
Yes, as it will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well:

(Yep, that's just in)
Can we get a new and original computer joke?
I wonder when they'll release the "Asus Uranus" xD
@astrodemoniac: With the marketing slogan, "The portal to next-gen gaming!"
Anyway, having them individually numbered can be a big ego booster to those that can afford these. Not to mention having the ability to play GTA IV everything maxed out and running at a resolution of 2560x2048 with one card.
This IS Crysis.
Yeah - i would imagine a machine with both numbers 1 and 2 in quad sli would go for way more than its worth once these are sold out. not that it wouldnt cost a fortune to begin with
expect the price tag to be somewhere between unreal and insane!!
I was thinking the pricing would be something more along the lines of being between epic and unreal....
Calculate the distance between the Earth and Mars and divide it by 0.
@xvalentine
surely you mean 1, because if you divide a number by zero then..
@seven
maybe in your fantasy world, dividing by zero is 1.
Set your wallets to stun!
No, that doesn't need to make sense.
Kinda looks like a VHS.
More like a betamax. :)
Dunno looks pretty cool to me. Better than most cards that have ugly stickers on them with some whorish chick or some dragon or alien like we're all still in the 4th grade.
I've never understood why someone would drop the likely $1000+ price they will ask, only to have a card be the fastest for likely 2 months and then Nvidia will roll out the 300gtx or something and decimate this card. I could almost understand if this was a new platform and ASUS said F it and decided to build some monster that slouches toward computex, but this is just a waste and a publicity stunt.
It's just a 1000 of them which just shows there is very little market for it.
But you know, there are many spoiled kids in the world today :D.
I don't think you understand how much money SOME people have.
and publicity is not a waste of $$$ Mr. Businessman. It sells things.
You assume having a lot of money excuses having no common sense, most people with loads of cash tend to also be people with pretty decent financial sense, and would avoid these cards. I think they target a somewhat specific e-penis 3dmark score group of consumers.
Well if you buy 2 of these cards and then make a few record benches on them, you're probably going to get additional sponsorship in the future. So it's not a total loss. $2000 worth of improved image? Probably not.
Just wait. In a month or two there will be a youtube vid of some rich punk beating the shit out of one with a hammer.
there's 7 million millionaires in the U.s.a. alone, they can afford to change cards every 2 months :p.
So what we should wait to buy a new card all the time because there is always a new one around the corner ?
1000$ per card is not nececarily a loss of 1000$
At least some of the people that go out and buy these things fairly frequently flip their older cards.
Its not like you need to sit horde all the crap you ever buy. The prices on this stuff dont drop quite that much either.
there might be a faster card coming out in a few months, but this one should last for a while. if you're not upgrading every second a new one comes out, this should be a good deal since it should last some time.
nick: you've obviously never been within 10 miles of Eton...
It would be sweet to get 2 of these babies to heat up ur room in winter =P
I don't see any hands on it.
Probably because if you did see hands on it, you probably wouldn't see it for long.
all good but....will it blend?
'Will it blend?'
It WILL blend!
Fixed that for you
Yes, just stick your carrots, apples, or whatever into that fan there, and it'll come out the back.
In for 3
Finally something I can spend my money on
I cant believe there is a motherboard somewhere under there. :D
A VHS tape with wires coming out of it. Cool!
i wonder if chuck Norris could use it to blend crysis on high?
Chuck Norris needs no help at blending anything. A look from Chuck will cause the objects molecular structure to run away.
I'll pass. With my luck, it would be a complete dead end (I was one of those folks who jumped on the VLB buss when it first came out...).
For now, I'm stuck with an old AGP system, and I've noticed that the selection of video cards for it is getting really thin. I'm hoping to tough it out until after the end of the year, and then upgrade to a multicore PCIe system for my music OCR and video editing. Maybe by then I'll be able to afford it.

Thats nice for you.
How is your cousin John?
And the final price comes to........ $800 and studddddering ingame is included!
@Seven
I believe that was the joke...
Damn comment system :(
So in Total Recall at the end where the pillars melt the ice...I'm assuming that those were just big ass heatsinks for this GPU?
So you could run 2 of these in SLI?
"My God, I could rule the universe!" /future Nixon
You could do that. However what isn't shown in the pictures is the back side of the card that has a red warning sticker on it about igniting the Earth's atmosphere; turning the Earth into a small star.
There is a warning on the box about Quad SLI and something about a quantum explosion that dooms all matter in the universe, but no doubt they are just being overly careful. Go ahead and try it.
Theres also a warning saying a high calorie diet can increase your risk of coronary heart disease.
it looks like a VHS tape rewinder to me
it looks like a vhs tape to me ... but the graphical quality is so much better!
looks a lot like my old vhs of "The Jungle Book" . . god I love that movie
this would make for a fine recession antidote . . anyone?
Wait what? It says Mars on it and that reminds you of the Jungle Book?
What kind of off-brand Walmart version did you watch as a child?
Recession Antidote:
1994 VHS of Kipling's "The Jungle Book"
I hope thats not a VGA lead i can see...
sure looks like dvi to me
