LG's HR400 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray recorder gets outed
So, why can't Yanks get ahold of these Blu-ray recorders again? All pent-up rage aside, what we're looking at above is LG's yet-to-be-formally-announced HR400, a Blu-ray recorder that will evidently be aimed initially at the European market. Packing BD-Live (Profile 2.0) support, a built-in DVB-T TV tuner and YouTube compatibility, this deck also arrives with 160GB of internal hard drive space for holding OTA recordings. Heck, this thing can even play back DivX HD files, stream media clips from other places on your network and upscale DVDs to 1080p. Is all that worth €599 ($852)? We're saying no, but you and your wallet can make your own darn decisions.

These are just examples, you can customized laptops as much as you want and add blu ray Burner and it will cost about the same if you reduce ram/HD/low end core 2 duo or even AMD

@DR House

Blackster @ Jun 1st 2009 9:34AM

DR House @ Jun 1st 2009 10:22AM
joshua and black before you advice others to read, give that advice to yourself, the ones i showed was just an example, i'm fully aware that they only play blu ray not burn but as i said in my reply that a customized laptop from hp/dell can give you that option with the same price, blu ray burner costs like only 50-100$ more than the blu ray player
Joshua @ Jun 1st 2009 10:44AM
But there is no option to upgrade to BD burner, certainly not at around $50.
DR House @ Jun 1st 2009 11:10AM
There is in Dell/hp website if you customized the pc
Joshua @ Jun 1st 2009 8:47AM
Sweet. Though I'd wait for Freeview HD to be launched before buying HD recording equipment (provided I have a few million quids knocking about).

Good product design, poor marketing and pricing. Seriously LG, could you put more of a markup on your products?
wud_e @ Jun 1st 2009 9:17AM
Now can it really upconvert DVD's to 1080p? Skeptical about that one.
simbr @ Jun 1st 2009 10:53AM
Where were you when all the upscaling DVD players came out?
hexydes @ Jun 1st 2009 9:22AM
MKV? MP4? H.264? AAC? AC3? More information necessary.
richb93 @ Jun 1st 2009 9:34AM
Seriously Engadget you need to sort your crappy comment system out. I'm getting lots of emails from supposed responders to my comment when it's just the normal comments. :@

I don't understand, was there some kind of collusion that happened to eliminate the DVD/HDD machine type, or was TiVO so all-powerful that the manufacturers simply left the North American marketplace altogether? I have an old Panasonic with an internal hard drive for recording Over The Air content, but have no idea how to replace it unless I give in and join the TiVO universe... and when you're only grabbing OTA content who wants to buy a TiVO? blah.
Rob @ Jun 1st 2009 11:43AM
I have two TivoHD boxes, and although I have Comcast basic cable, the only content worth saving is OTA HD. The Comcast SD signal looks terrible on my HDTV. And, from what I've heard, their HD is just as bad. So, I'm afraid of even giving them a shot. Any feedback on that?
Rob @ Jun 1st 2009 11:40AM
My impression is that the MPAA is the reason why these players don't make it State-side. History has proven that the MPAA is afraid of anything that captures content for more than a second after being shown by the networks.
