Samsung slaps "production-ready" label on 14.1- and 31-inch OLED TVs
Samsung's been kicking around its 14.1- and 31-inch OLED TVs since CES 2008, but it seems as if things are turning for the better at SID this week. In a press release outed today, Sammy told the world that it's exhibiting "production-ready" AMOLED TV sets, though the sizes are the same as the ones we've seen before. The 31-incher really has our attention, with it being the planet's first OLED with a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) display, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a color gamut of over 100 percent NTSC and an 8.9 millimeter slim enclosure. So, when does "production-ready" morph into "in production?" Bueller?

awesome... now all we need is the price, date, and monies.
I can give you approx price ($10,000+) and date (2010 or later) but no monies here either.
how ironic, that photograph has a NO photography sign on it.
Crap!!! You beet me to it...
you beat me as well!!! Ha ha ha, That is quite laughable!
i lol'd.
that was the first thing I noticed. hahaha
beat me as well, damn
How ironic. Now he's blind after a lifetime of enjoying being able to see.
that's what i said (kinda late to the party )
Late again, by four hours.\
Hey, I take a long time to type, looks nice though. :)
That's not ironic.
it's the 'no white circle in black rectangle' law...
Haha, they took a photo even though it was forbidden. lolololol call cnn. gotta twitter this!
@ian9outof10
If a photograph contains a "no photography" sign, then yes, it is ironic
@ mikethevee
I just want you to get another email notification really.
I think the photographer deliberately included it in the shot :P
31 Inch OLED!! . . . I can't even imagine the price with Sony's 11incher pushing $2500
that's what she said....
really thats is how much the 11inch sony is? omg :( oled is insane.
@PuBeLeSs
Why charge less if its the *only* OLED TV sold in the world? Besides, "Its a Sony"!
...I'm fairly certain you could manage to find a laptop with more power, longer battery life, AND blu-ray for only a little bit more money, if not the same or a bit less. Epic fail.
so I just realized that I posted this comment in the wrong window...ignore this as it dosn't apply to samsung's sweet, sweet full HD OLED tv...'drools'
epic fail indeed :)
Who still uses different WINDOWS for web browsing?
anexanhume - Since Windows 7 came out
@anexanhume
I do. Vista on laptop, XP on PC.
i think when he was remarking about windows, he meant as opposed to tabs... not that I am certain as I am not him ^__^
I was referring to windows as opposed to tabs; I had multiple browser windows open with multiple tabs. lowest ranked ftw!
I want these to go into production wicked bad! I'm not going to be able to buy one for another 5-10 years, but the faster they come out, the faster the prices go down- and the faster they iron out issues the early adopters find out.
I still want one though. 1,000,000:1? Yes please
l agree, I'm very excited. But I'm wondering about the 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Is that static or dynamic? Because Samsung's new LED HDTVs have 3,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, from what I've read in the store.
I'm guessing the quoted ratio is static, and hence the 'true' contrast of the OLED screen will be much, much better than the dynamic contrast of an LED-backlit LCD.
Hey, this is OLED, you better start getting used to insane numbers!
The whole contrast thing has become a sick joke and the figures aren't even close to the truth. Plus, contrast on its own is a worthless figure since a 1 lumen display could achieve infiniate contrast if it can shut off all light ouput when displaying black. They should quote three figures: the ANSI contrast, the
Of course quoting figures like 4:00:1
True, but on the other hand we are going to see more often what we are missing out on. :( Since I've laid eye on that Kodak OLED picture frame my monitors just don't look very good anymore... (although the CRT can still hold up quite well, minus the flickering and the problem of making everything above 80% black just black).
Is it just me (and hardware reviewers), or are "contrast ratios" becoming the biggest joke since a 13.9" 15" CRT?
The 14.1" one is only 2.7mm thick.
That's getting really close to paper thick.
Doesn't make sense - it doesn't fold.
That's what she said.
I'll take 2. Who needs kidneys anyway?
Either you are selling one kidney for a ridiculously high price, or have yet to realize you can't sell them both and live....long or far away from a dialysis machine.
@kal
humor, who needs that? :)
Who do I have to blow for a 30 inch oled screen?
They call him... "Big Sam"
**unzips trousers**
That's what she said
Samsung needs to concentrate on fixing the software on their TVs before they make new ones.
I'd love to have one of their very think current LCD HDTVs, but they take about 30 seconds to turn on. They turn on so slowly that they have a blinking light at the bottom to tell you they are in the process of turning on.
I've never used a TV that takes that long to turn on and I grew up in the 70s. CRT TVs turned on and warmed up far faster than this, even back then.
Dude, it's about 3-5 seconds! Unless you've somehow confused an LCD panel TV with a rear-projection TV.
Plasma ftw!
My lcd comes up in about 5 seconds...?
