Fujifilm FinePix S1500 gets reviewed

Fujifilm's FineFix S1500 got a little lost among the company's slew of other cameras unveiled back at PMA and CeBIT, but the camera's now finally moving out on its own, and the folks at Photography Blog have seen fit to give a thorough review. In case you missed it, this one's a 10-megapixel bridge camera, and packs quite a few impressive features for its $200 street price, including a 12x optical zoom, image stabilization, a decent 2.7-inch LCD, and a full range of manual controls in addition to the usual point-and-shoot options. According to Photography Blog, however, while the S1500 "feels like a lot of camera for the money," it falls a bit short when it comes to image quality, and things seem to get particularly tricky if you're shooting in less than ideal conditions. That said, is is just $200, and should still be a nice upgrade for anyone looking to move up from a basic point-and-shoot.

"FineFix S1500" - Typo there buddy
$200 for a 10 mega and 12x optical zoom camera is pretty impressive.
I can't believe there are still new ultrazoom with less than ideal image quality. Either they are not clear about their market targets or they are too naive. Put in a larger sensor and they may get better sales. 1/2.3-inch CCD just ain't enough.
$200 pays for the 12x. Everything else is free.
I don't get the idea with this camera. Why would someone buy this versus say a similarly priced Panasonic TZ5, which offers similar performance in a far more compact form factor? Because this one looks like a teeny tiny DSLR?
Not sure where the TZ5 is similarly priced from a reputable dealer. But if you're going to scrape up $200 for mediocre, why not scrape up $80 more for top of the class Panasonic FZ-28?
Totally agree though.. this screams half ass budget cam.
What is up with camera manufacturers these days... cameras are meant to take images and lately all reviews I have read about cameras, they all say image quality is poor... Is it me, or does that defeat the purpose of a camera?
Cheap big-sensor SLR cameras have raised the bar. The comparison isn't really fair but it gets made implicitly non the less.
Fujifilm is not known for its fine optics. If you want high image quality, get a Canon. They make DSLR for years and continued on their tradition with their professional EOS and L lenses. The same technologies are incorporated to their Powershot cameras, so you know that you can trust Canon for all your photographic needs. I have friends and family who uses Canon products and we love it.
iKurt, every time i see a post of you, it's the same post spouting the same nonsense over Canons supposedly being superior. Annoying fanboy.
iKurt show me your 5D Shots.. and see what an intelligent photgrapher can do with the same Fuji model @ 3 MP and from 2004. Get your facts together your camera us only half of the solution : http://www.flickriver.com/photos/pilottage/popular-interesting/
