iBUYPOWER launches potent M865TU gaming laptop
Another day, another new one from iBUYPOWER. But this one's different, or so they tell us. You see, the M865TU is being hailed as the most powerful 15-inch gaming laptop ever, and considering that Alienware's M17x can't be included here, we'd argue these guys actually have an outside shot at being right. Within, you'll find a 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9800, up to 4GB DDR3 memory, a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 graphics card and a 15.6-inch WXGA (1,680 x 1,050) panel. It'll also ship with an eight-cell battery, 250GB HDD and a dual-layer DVD writer, and it's available now for as low as $1,499. Don't expect that "most powerful" label to apply to Mr. Base Configuration, though.

El Monte, CA – June 2, 2009 – iBUYPOWER, one of the leading gaming systems manufacturers in the world, is excited to announce the most powerful 15 inch Gaming Notebook ever -- M865TU. Starting at $1,499, the M865TU offers gamers a slew of processors to choose from, including the 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9800, up to 4GB DDR3 memory, the NVIDIA GTX 260 1GB graphics card, and a vibrant 15.6" WXGA widescreen LCD display with a 1680x1050 high definition resolution. Users can even configure their systems with the Intel X-25-M SSD for blazing fast load times.
The NVIDIA GTX 260 graphic card, the best GPU available in a 15" notebook, allows gamers to take full advantage of NVIDIA's PhysX Technology. The combination creates an unbelievably detailed lifelike gaming environment that was previously unavailable on a 15 inch notebook.
"Until now gamers looking for a notebook that could match desktop performance were forced to lug around laptops that were at least 17", and anything but portable," said Darren Su, Vice President of iBUYPOWER. "With the M865TU we packed desktop replacement type power into a notebook that gamers will enjoy traveling with. "
The M865TU Gaming Notebook is available now exclusively at www.iBUYPOWER.com. iBUYPOWER systems come standard with a 1 year limited warranty and lifetime technical support.

That looks absolutely sexy.
D @ Jun 2nd 2009 9:51PM
look at the other pictures. that front shot is deceptive
lawyer bird @ Jun 3rd 2009 2:54AM
I don't know, the other pics look pretty good too...
Amrosorma @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:13PM
Looks like an Alienware jobby. Nice.
But still useless.
JohnTitor @ Jun 2nd 2009 9:39PM
Alienware actually has the fastest (and probably best looking) 15" gaming laptop, the M15, sure it costs more but its not as overpriced as you might expect
required @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:13PM
I think that has some really bad photoshop reflection things going on.
sacapuntas @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:24PM
I was just about to point that out. Even a 9/11 truther can see that the reflection and the image don't add up. I dare say it is a fake. ;)
Iocane @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:41PM
It's a render, but the laptop's real. I'm typing on one (a slightly older model, but you get the idea).
Here's a review with actual pictures:

Thank you! That was the first thing that i noticed.

this is the sager NP8662, which has actually been available for the past 2 months. It can support up to a quad, 8 gb ram and has a standard three year warranty if u buy from the many online retailers that have it. Y would you take this instead?
ThrobbingEgo @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:37PM
M865TU is actually the barebone Clevo's name. Sager rebrands the Clevos they outfit with their NP product number, resellers who get their barebones from Clevo don't use Sager's branding.
So, the NP8662 is actually a rebranded M865TU.
Jonathan @ Jun 2nd 2009 11:01PM
Sorry, but you're mistaken. The Sager NP8662 is a rebranded Clevo M860TU not a Clevo M865TU.
ThrobbingEgo @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:30PM
@Amrosorma:
I have a NP8660 (same model, last years components), with 4GB of RAM, 2.5GHz CPU, and 9800m GT. The fans are quiet (and include a silent mode that works), the heat stays low, it can play every game I throw at it on maximum settings (except Crysis :P), and I use it to take notes in class. It's my no-compromise PC.
The only downside is the faux carbon fiber finish wore away in the place where I rest my WASD hand.
TareX @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:39PM
I have a question:
Will this laptop be able to run Far Cry 2 at ultra-high in max resolution with +50 fps?
Iocane @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:47PM
I said " it can play every game I throw at it on maximum settings (except Crysis :P)." Farcry 2 is pretty much Crysis. Unless the GTX 260 is radically different than the 9800m GT (it's a slight step up), I'm going to suggest you rachet the settings down to high.
matt04wj @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:41PM
I think the description should say 15.4" WSXGA+ screen @ 1680x1050
jcwestbrook @ Jun 2nd 2009 9:03PM
Wow, total reflection fail ...
Wewtaco @ Jun 2nd 2009 9:38PM
lol, I didn't even realize that until you said it

Actually if you check out XoticPc/Sager they just updated the NP8662 so that the processor now goes up to 3.06ghz. And it's already out.
Kebab in Korea @ Jun 2nd 2009 10:38PM
@locane
Far cry 2 is much more efficient and less graphics intensive than crysis. I could play fc2 medium on my m1530 laptop at high frames amd high on low-medium frames, but crysis ran like shit on the lowest settings.
aznofazns @ Jun 2nd 2009 11:19PM
WXGA is not 1680x1050, but 1280x800 or 1366x768. WSXGA+ is 1680x1050.
Mark Reardon @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:47AM
how about this, i've got the MSI GT627-18US, with a centrino processor at 2.4, but they sell it with 2.2 ghz..... anyways, 1gb ddr3 nvidia 9800m gs, 320 7200rpm, I SAID 7200 rpm, AND a blue-ray drive, of course DVD+-RW........... 4gb mem RAM
my version is $1299, or $1100 on ebay (mine is for sale)
the slower processor is about the same ($1100) new.
sorry that rambled into a shameless plug, but EITHER version is WAY better than this lappy
Blacky @ Jun 3rd 2009 3:37AM
Unfortunately for you the 9800M GS is about 25% slower than the 260M GTX.
Casey @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:22AM
Most powerful, but not all-powerful!
Aceofspades @ Jun 4th 2009 3:22AM
I have a Sager NP8662 (same thing as this laptop) and its like a whole other level of laptop. Its simply perfect. I honestly don't have a single quip about the design (well i miss fn being at the end)
Its also quite affordable and upgradable.
With clevo laptops...is there really any reason to get an alienware...I mean honestly.
BTW Xoticpc.com and PCTorque are also very good resellers. And I prefer sager because they have pretty good warranties and are the most tried and true brand.
Galactor963 @ Jun 3rd 2009 8:36AM
I love the "hey, slapping Halo 2 screen shots on all of our products makes them look awesome!" concept. Seriously, look at every article with a screen visible:
http://www.engadget.com/tag/iBUYPOWER/
On that note, it would have looked great on here had the reflection not been awful.
bignosepimpin @ Jun 3rd 2009 4:31PM
I have this laptop under the Sager branding and you can get it from www.xoticpc.com and you can get up to the quad core graphics card, the m15 is definately not stronger than this laptop if you look at the specs.
Also for the allpower or whatever alienware calls it, clevo has a build that is the same with the SLI GTX 280m with all the same options (Raid, processor etc...)
This 15 inch laptop is amazing and it does handle everything on the highest settings, even crysis. I play crysis everyday on maxed settings without a problem on this laptop, its simply amazing.
bignosepimpin @ Jun 3rd 2009 4:34PM
Oh, and I forgot to mention the xoticpc.com version has the 1900 x 1200 screen upgrade, along with blu ray drive upgrade
Larry @ Jun 7th 2009 12:38PM
This is awsome! We really can see and feel the quality of build and performance of this baby! Great place to see it and get it is,
