Black Nintendo Wii, red DSi this summer
It's not Colorware, the black Wii and red DSi are coming straight out of Nintendo Japan. The black Wii (or "KURO Wii" to be precise) is particularly interesting as it's been rumored for over two years now. Ok, it's not that interesting but it sure is edgy... right? Oh nevermind. Expect the ¥25,000 black Wii with like-colored Wiimote, nunchuck, and classic controller to hit Japan on August 1st and the ¥18,900 red DSi on July 11th. Red DSi after the break.

not.
mirakutea @ Jun 4th 2009 6:20AM
a black wii, is it any bigger?
astrodemoniac @ Jun 4th 2009 7:15AM
What I have heard from many people who have them, is that they don't use their Wii that much and has turned into a dust collector. Now, white dust collector > black dust collector xD
Eddy Munn @ Jun 4th 2009 7:41AM
The black and blue is orgasmic.
Tarnation @ Jun 4th 2009 8:13AM
@mirakutea I c what'cha did thar.
Idlemind @ Jun 4th 2009 10:36AM
The Black Wii is not bigger... its just a rumor..... LOL
B3astofthe3ast @ Jun 4th 2009 3:44AM
+ 1 billion more consoles sold.
I really wanted this back when "Revolution" was announced:( Im stuck with the white one...
Greg @ Jun 4th 2009 4:26AM
Heh.
When it was called "Revolution" I thought it was because they were going to make some amazing, powerful system, and finally start offering games that appealed to all ages... Not 'E' title s that "appeal to everyone", but E, T, and M titles. A game for everyone.
Boy, was I wrong.
Ridgecity @ Jun 4th 2009 4:41AM
It is the revolution, everyone plays videogames now, and all 3 companies now have motion controllers, not to mention it brought Nintendo back from the dead to ·#1 in sales and brand recognition. It you say it wasn't revolutionary, I don't understand what kind of stuff you were expecting from a machine made for video games.
It doesn't do miracles or cure disease.
nighttime__ @ Jun 4th 2009 5:40AM
@ridgecity
at least the ps3 tries to cure disease!
puhsitch @ Jun 4th 2009 11:24AM
@Greg: Revolutions do tend to be a little controversial
jak33 @ Jun 4th 2009 3:43PM
The Wii has done quite the opposite. It had destroyed video games. I remember playing games like crash bandicoot and spiro when i was 5 years old. All Nintendo has done in the last 2 years is demolish all that video games were. They have flooded the market with hundreds of "everyone" titles that are just horrendous crappy games. They're also holding back the industry with the horrible specs that their console touts. I beleive that nintendo has given up since the N64, and has forgotten what good games and consoles are like. They're running their business like i do my homework, they com up with one good idea and figure its good enough. The current stauts of the three gaming companies; Nintendo-backwards; Microsoft-Going nowhere, but making a profit; Sony-looking ahead. Im so tired of halo. Im so tired of my X-Box. Videogames aren't fun anymore, which I partially attribute to nintendo. Next week im going to take all my 360 stuff and trade it in for a PS3, and if i can't find enjoyment there, then I'm going to give up on games. screw nintendo.
ash @ Jun 4th 2009 3:46AM
The system wars just heated up... in the microwave.
chaos123x @ Jun 4th 2009 3:47AM
Yeah that looks cool and all.
But white one is stuck in the entertainment horizontal with the wavebird plug and gamecube cards stuck in it.
So I am note to worried about look.
Maybe some people will sell there old ones and get this.
poke @ Jun 4th 2009 3:49AM
Doesn't make the wii any more appealing in my eyes. wish i never bought the white one. Would prefer this one gathering dust than the white one maybe :-s
Ridgecity @ Jun 4th 2009 4:45AM
why don't you keep it in a closet or throw it away? at least clean it once in a while, dust makes the air in a house very heavy to breathe and make you even more uncomfortable than watching that thing below the tv gathering dust...
giantenemycrab @ Jun 4th 2009 3:50AM
man that is sweet. Please don't make us Americans wait, Ninty.
boomerz @ Jun 4th 2009 4:03AM
yeah but can it play... games at 720p :p
Amun @ Jun 4th 2009 5:14AM
Maybe in the year 3000.
craftsmantools @ Jun 4th 2009 5:35AM
At least 720p and an HDMI port PLEASE!
Joe H @ Jun 4th 2009 4:03AM
They should've released this one at launch. I'll never understand the obsession with electronics being white after the release of the iPod, but especially things that are attached to your TV. They're black for a reason, to not stand out in your vision when you're trying to play your game (or watch TV, or whatever). Besides that, everything else is black, and I want my electronics to all blend in with each other, not stick out like a sore thumb.
I'm not going to buy a second Wii for it, but I am annoyed that it wasn't released this way in the first place.
JZ @ Jun 4th 2009 4:48AM
While it might be smart business wise to release once in a while a new/special edition of a console or other perhiples I always disliked the whole colouring limitations. The effort to use different colours for molds is nothing while consumers atleast have an option then to choose a colour which fits best in their home. Now if you are digg black furniture you´re forced to hide this piece of equipment while otherwise not.
That aside I´m surprised the Wii still sells and Nintendo hasn´t got a new console ready to be released. Seen their cycle it shouldn´t take to long and hopefully it will be targetted a bit more at the mature audience, sure the whole WiiFit stuff is fun but I dont know anybody who has a Wii without dust on it.
Skorpius @ Jun 4th 2009 11:41AM
My thoughts exactly. All electronics should be black (and not shiny to the point of gathering fingerprints), hence my love of Lenovo laptops.
BarryBee @ Jun 4th 2009 4:05AM
The systems should have been black from the start, maybe I would not regret my purchase as much... Who am I kidding? I'd still hate the fact that I spent my hard earned money on it.
Gad Get @ Jun 4th 2009 4:14AM
Wow. Absolutely stunning.
Gad Get @ Jun 4th 2009 4:15AM
The black Wii, that is. The red DSi just looks like a child's plaything.
TTSGEB @ Jun 4th 2009 4:19AM
I here I thought that's what it was supposed to be.
Gad Get @ Jun 4th 2009 4:22AM
I was being ironic.
Jon @ Jun 4th 2009 7:01PM
I think you mean you were being sarcastic.
But I still agree with you. It's black. Woop-dee-fucking-doo.
Torokun @ Jun 4th 2009 4:25AM
Japan gets all the love
:(
Matt @ Jun 4th 2009 4:28AM
Too little, too late.
Joe @ Jun 4th 2009 4:37AM
I liked my orange game cube I bought in Japan while stationed there. I can wait for them to bring a black Wii over here...
Cody @ Jun 4th 2009 4:43AM
It does look good...but looks isn't the reason my Wii's collecting dust.
Xoxidine @ Jun 4th 2009 5:27AM
I'm so glad I clicked the link on Twitter. I almost wasted my time seeing that this was for Japan only... oh wait.
TheBrow @ Jun 4th 2009 6:04AM
The Wii would look much better if the DVD drive glowed in red.
WINNER! @ Jun 4th 2009 8:31AM
....and you know....actually played DVDs.
Bandit5317 @ Jun 4th 2009 7:22PM
Then mod it. It's 2 LEDs...
SuperDre @ Jun 4th 2009 6:22AM
Cool, maybe now I'll think about one.. BUT, will it also be possible to buy a second nunchuck/wiimote in black, because if it can't then there's still that problem, you'll need 2 controllers, and one black and one white is just plain ugly IMHO...
KNC47 @ Jun 4th 2009 11:38AM
Ebony and Ivory, living together in perfect harmony.
Mikey @ Jun 4th 2009 7:32AM
I'm getting bored of Nintendo doing this.
Nuts to releasing something new, just release the same thing in another colour! Yeah! That'll work!
Bellends.
Andrew Prashad @ Jun 4th 2009 8:06AM
When the Wii came out, I wanted it in black to match my entertainment unit and my PS3 and Xbox 360 elite. So I just bought the black plastic shell for the system and wiimotes off of eBay and did it myself. Looks exactly like this... I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done this.
strider_mt2k @ Jun 4th 2009 8:10AM
JERKS!!
I WAITED and WAITED for the stupid BLACK Wii, gave up and bought my wife the white one.
JERKS I SAY!
Jon Acheson @ Jun 4th 2009 11:31AM
"Paint"
J D @ Jun 4th 2009 8:39AM
i'm glad i didn't have the option to buy a black wii last year. Otherwise it would show the dust like crazy, which tends to happen when something sits unused for long periods of time
Felipe @ Jun 4th 2009 9:07AM
So it was a good thing I have yet to buy a Wii then. I guess I can wait more time for this version to come over to the U.S. All my systems are black (except my PSP), so I might as well keep it going.
Deedubbadoo @ Jun 4th 2009 9:18AM
Why not make the stand black as well, or is that just the way the picture looks?
JrA 2I9 pSu @ Jun 4th 2009 9:19AM
that is tight.
chalupa @ Jun 4th 2009 9:47AM
I've had a black wii for a year now. I have black entertaiment center and that white wii was sticking out like a sore thumb. Just bought a $15 black case from ebay and replaced it myself in half an hour.
rickjamess04 @ Jun 4th 2009 9:48AM
Why do these things always have to be about color?
