Black Nintendo Wii, red DSi this summer

It's not Colorware, the black Wii and red DSi are coming straight out of Nintendo Japan. The black Wii (or "KURO Wii" to be precise) is particularly interesting as it's been rumored for over two years now. Ok, it's not that interesting but it sure is edgy... right? Oh nevermind. Expect the ¥25,000 black Wii with like-colored Wiimote, nunchuck, and classic controller to hit Japan on August 1st and the ¥18,900 red DSi on July 11th. Red DSi after the break.

I was so excited for a balck version before it came out, but now 2 and a half years later, I've gotten so used to the white, the black loses something.


Although I woldn't mind getting black Wiimotes

This new color offering is indicative of the slowing in Wii sales that websites have been reporting these past weeks. Their success with releasing different color schemes for hardware and peripherals was a fluke as people were requesting a Game Boy with color, so they released colored Game Boys. As I recall sales of Game Boys spiked and Nintendo has been using this technique ever since. Now we have Apple, Microsoft, Sony, and other popular electronic companies use this technique. It's a shame really that Nintendo didn't offer different colored Wiis upon launch as were shown in E3 when first introduced. Not that it matters now really. My Wii, like most people who comment here, is collecting major dust. Games are fun with company over but the real gaming is on XBOX 360. Online on the Wii is a joke. Once you have XBOX Live, you can't go back to anything less. C'mon Nintendo restore my faith and release Wii2 with hardware comporable to the true next generation systems. Now especially that Microsoft has shown Project Natal, it will be very difficult to going back to the waggle fest garbage that is the Wii.
