Our compatriots at
Engadget Chinese have been doing all the leg work at
Computex for us this week, and here's another beauty they caught sight of: the ASUS Eee PC 1101HGO. Yes, this is something we have not previously spied... or have we? This newest addition to the
Seashell line is extremely similar to the
1101HA we've caught wind of, but this one's got 3G built in. The 11.6-inch, 1,366 x 768 resolution LCD-boasting PC houses an Intel Atom Z-series CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, three USB 2.0 sockets, a multicard reader, and a six-cell battery. We don't have any information about pricing or availability as of yet, but we'll let you know when we do. Two more shots after the break.
i don't think netbooks should be larger than 10 inches!
they are pushing the term!
My main concern is the performance of these Z series Atom chips, I hear the performance in the 11.6" Acer Aspire One with the Z520 processor is noticeably lower than the previous Aspire One models with the N270 processors.
They are pushing netbooks into something i don't know what should we call it...!!! cheep laptops...!
i think they shouldn't be more than 10 inches
Hm, even I have to admit there's a lot more market for a cheap normal-sized laptop than for a smaller and more portable device.
Though maybe we should stop calling everything with an Intel Atom inside a "netbook"...
i have no desire for an 11 inch netbook. 9-10 inches was perfect. after that they should be working on cheap solutions to equip a touchscreen to make it faster and then properly marketing it. netbook losing its charm now.
Z-series Atom + no Ion == NO DEAL
Nice DPI on that screen.
I would rather have a 720p screen at 11" than this I think.
And of course pair it with an Ion chipset ;)
I think an 11" netbook isn't that bad of an idea. Actually... I think they could fit an 11" screen onto the netbooks that originally have 10" screens if they removed some bezel. Then I'd still get the small form factor but have more screen space.
I don't understand why everybody is hating on 11 inch? Do you *like* 1024x600?
I miss the 7-inch netbooks myself.
That's not the point. The resolution is stuck at 1024x600 for the moment, because there are no better but still cheap displays available. You could put much more resolution into that screen size and I really wouldn't mind it, but that will need some time.
Very important for me however was the 1kg limit when I got my Eee. I don't want to carry too much weight around or it wouldn't be very "mobile" computing. "Netbooks" should stay within certain size and weight limits, but nobody says they may not upgrade processing power, RAM, resolution etc...
Actually, there IS someone saying they may not upgrade those kinds of features- Microsoft Corp. Go too far and you can't get XP... and later this year you won't be able to get bargain-basement Windows 7 Starter.
This looks awesome, and for the price such a great deal. Think when I get some extra cash I'll pick one up.
Who are you/me/we to say what is and isn't a netbook? Jesus H. Christ on a F'ing pogo stick... get over yourselves already!
Personally I think the ultimate defining factor of "netbook vs. laptop" will be processor power & weight; not screen size.
In my own personal opinion, all the sub 10" units never grabbed my attention. Know these micro units have a faithful following, and that's fine, but most people, even those with good eye sight, don't want to squint at their screen. To each their own, YMMV, yadda yadda yadda, but I think the sweet spot for mass consumption "netbooks" will be 10"-12", with smaller screens being a niche market.
JMHO.
Asus, figure out your placement for the right shift key, then we'll talk... this bullshit of having an arrow key to the left of the shift is exactly that - bullshit..
Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see any arrow keys to the left of the shift key. Do, however, see one to the right and below said shift key. Not saying the layout couldn't be a bit nicer... say dropping the arrow cluster down a bit... but chances are Asus was "trying" to keep things neat and tidy.
Finally asus is making an eee pc without huge bezels
like everything else they make, not including the 7 and 9 series eee's?
