LG GD910 to start shipping in July
It won't be the cheapest way to get in on 7.2Mbps HSDPA, but it might be the coolest way -- or at the very least, the geekiest -- when LG finally begins shipping out its GD910 watch phone starting next month. Sales will kick off in Europe on Orange, followed by Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and Latin America, so odds are good that this thing will be available in a neighborhood near you over the next few weeks. Practical, it's not -- but video calling through a wristwatch is pretty much every little boy's dream, so we're going to cut this phone a whole lot of slack.

I love how it still uses a rendered image on the screen... or LG has discovered a way to bend light without appearing too obvious,,,
id like to video chat with her but I would have to wear the watch on my left hand then.
You could always wear the watch on your 11th finger..
"No, you wear it. You know, on your wrist!"
Honestly is there even a market for a phone like this? Or is it just a impulse geek gadget?
If it's as affordable as a USD200 mobile phone, I will buy a pair.
Aren't all phones all about impulse gadgetry now? Half of engadget is dedicated to it, the lure of the 'it's new' and 'it's a gadget!' effect of phones, and 75% of the stuff they add to phones is to encourage impulse-buy gadget appeal.
I'd buy one in a heartbeat, but it's going to be like $1000 so......maybe in a couple years. I'm never spending that much on anything short of a laptop or a car again.
"You can put the dinner on, I'll be home in 20 minutes"
"But you just left 10 minutes ago!"
"Yeah, well I have to come back and recharge the battery on this thi--hello? Dammit."
One question are we are the only country that has no video calling i mean is everywere europe asia south amrica why the us dosen't have this ??
Because hardly anyone uses it. It's not more than a gimmick for most. There was a flurry of video calls here in NZ when it was introduced, but only a few weeks later video calls were virtually non-existant as the novelty wore off like a temporary tattoo.
Yeah and on demonstration it's always pretty people looking perfectly lit and seen from a good angle, but if you look down at your wrist into a camera you are not looking very appealing, couple that with a CMOS low cost camera and obvious lighting issues since you will never be well lighted in those circumstances (looking down your face will most often be in the shadow of your head at least with brighter contrasting background confusing the camera), well it just doesn't seem appealing.
Incidentally, I've never seen somebody do a videocall in europe, ever, in real life that is, not sure where you get the idea that the whole world is video-calling.
Picture in picture on a 1.5"(?) screen, uses all of 12 pixels I guess.
This is the more advanced Dick Tracy phone. He had it first.
