A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
saying "there are no apps" is total FUD. The Pre can run older Palm OS programs. Yes, that's not exactly the same thing but can your iPhone run an NES emulator? Didn't think so.
No video on the Pre is a dumb move. The Treo 600 couldn't do video but that was years ago.
Making too few phones available isn't too smart either, but maybe it won't matter when/if Verizon gets the Pre. That's what I'm waiting for, hopefully that'll actually happen.
Again though, this idea that Apple invented the idea of a phone that can run programs is right up there with the Fox News notion of a liberal media. WRONG.
brettsinger-
hah! I'm hardly spreading "FUD." There are something like a dozen apps available in the "app catalog." Congrats on your NES emulator, though. I'm sure it will sell a lot of phones
Nobody said Apple invented apps, my friend. Nice irrelevant politcal commentary, though.
My whole point is that the Pre is missing features the iPhone also lacks or lacked, and nobody is up in arms. Despite the fact the Pre comes out 2.5 years after the iPhone is announced. I'm just glad the haters finally realized that a tradeoff of a few individual features in exchange for a better overall phone is WORTH it. Agreed?

Whoa. Old Palm apps. AWESOME!!!! :|
@Greg
So true...
I honestly don't get the hype about this phone. 8GB of storage=weak. Are there any games for it? Granted the iPhone will need the 3.0 OS to provide some of the "basic" features it should have had but that is in the past. Looking forward, it doesn't seem like Palm has come up with a product that is any farther ahead that iPhone already is. It just doesn't "wow" me.
Templarian-
That's awfully calm-headed of you. I wish so many Apple-haters were as calm as you when they were bashing the iPhone.
Why thank you, I actually don't mind Apple that much (I did buy their iPod touch).
I'm just getting a Palm Pre so its expected I'm going to be a little biased. lol.
Can someone post Green Bay, WI for me? My work blocked the site where the PDF is located.
Thanks
Greenbay has 5, only higher count in state is Wausau with 6. most others have 2.
Anybody know if the devices "In Transit" will make it there by Saturday?????
Haha, well now I know that the stores by me have'em!
There are 500,000 people in the City I live in, more then a million if you include the 30 miles around it being serviced by 2 Best Buys. Guess how many Pres we are getting for both stores, including those in transit........ 0, 1 million people and we could not score a single Pre.
Man, I hope I can get one with have to resort to paying an extra 100$ and having my MIR "lost" in the mail.
I just did some searching, and there are actually 4 Best Buy here, sadly the total is still 0.
On a side note, the store #s listed in the PDF match the ones on BestBuy.com; that adds a bit of credibility to the document.
I can verify the amounts in 2 locations - these seem correct.
Anyone have any ideas about how many Sprint stores are stocking?
Ok... no Boston stores are even LISTED in this PDF? I think they skipped a district. We have 3 within the city and 5 just outside the city. None of which are listed here...
For some reason I find it really hard to believe that San Diego County Best Buys have 0 pre's in stock and have 0 on the way. Something seems really wrong here.
FAKE, Minnesota is the home of Best Buy. Their flagship/1st store located in Edina MN is not listed although they will have them. Also thier coon rapids mn locations says more in one pdf than it does in the second. It is missing their corporate Bloomington and Mall of America stores which will also have them.
This is FAKE

Damn son. No Palm Pre love for Mount Laurel ? A-Boo.
Fargo ND with 16, really? I'll actually be in MN rather than LA for this release, looks like I'll be better off. Never would've though that.
I'd bet money that most people who want a Pre at launch will be able to get one on Saturday, or at the worst within a week of then. This Best Buy drama is silly. Let's not forget you can also order from Sprint and RadioShack. You can probably order online with Sprint and they'll ship it to you as a last resort.
I also doubt that '2' for example means 2 phones. It probably means 2 boxes - which each include at least 6 or so phones.
There is a total of 10 in the whole great state of Pennsylvania.....10!!! And there are only 6 within 25 miles of where i live......i have an iPhone, but seriously...2 for each store in PA?!?!?! Good going Palm...BEST LAUNCH PLANNING EVER!
First time I ever saw anything related to Manalapan, NJ!!!! LOL!
Wow, Seattle/Bellevue is getting the shaft! Nice. Thanks Palm!
This is far from the complete listing of Best Buy stores. Richfield which is the flagship store and is usually highest grossing in the region isn't even listed. Neither are Burnsville, Mall of America, Apple Valley, or Edina.
It's hard to beleive they'd ship some to Willmar out in farm country rather than population centers. Hell they got the same amount as Eden Prairie which is one of the richest cities in the state.
So either this is bogus, someone doesn't know how to copy and paste for crap, or someone in corporate has no clue how to distribute product.
Being an employee at BestBuy, I can confirm these stats to be correct, for my district at least.
So this is not false info.
Looks like Fargo is getting 16. Excellent! I'll be driving up early Saturday morning to try and get one. I'll be trying Best Buy, the Sprint store, then Radio Shack. Are there any other possibilities in the Fargo area?
OK sprint is totally about to piss me off. I went into a store 17th and Market Philadelphia today to see what the details of the launch were set asside all the BS and try and figure out what was real. The 8:00am opening for some stores is true but when i spoke to an rep she tells me it's not first come first serve. That you had to have signed up online somewhere (( did you know about this cause i sure as hell didn't )). When i got the instinct i signed up online to get info and it was a waste. I got more info from surfing than i did when they emailed me. SO i never bothered for the pre. THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE TO SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING ABOUT THE PRE ON THE SPRINT SITE. So I left the store pissed that a day before I wasn't on the list and went home and called the store and asked to speak to a manager. Who proceeded to tell me the same thing. Why Sprint would you want to do what you are about to do? Why would you even allow there to be a secret list SECRET UNICORN LIST...WTF...you only have a 6 month window before the phone go's over to faster networks larger networks I want this phone YOU are about to make me flip you the bird and go give my 120 a month to verizon or att...and shit if i'm gonna go to att i might as well get a damn iphone palm you better get on the ball sprint your about to drop it...
Silly launch- and why wast money advertising a product that you can't get? The only thing this did is make me want a product I can't have. So in looking do I want a product I can't have or finally make the switch to AT&T and get a known commedity in the 3GS? By not being able to get a PRE yet (when was launch day about 1 month ago) all I have done is read BAD review after BAD review so If I can not get one with out having to do the mail in rebate crap I will be at the Apple store on Mon. EVEN though my sprint contract does not run out until Dec.
