Mojo Mobility shows off wireless charging on Intel MIDs
Despite overwhelming evidence showing that MIDs just aren't the next big thing, Intel refuses to give up on the idea. To that end, Mojo Mobility has seemingly drank the Kool-Aid as well, showing off a new wireless charging system on those very devices at Computex. The Near Field Power solution can be integrated into mobile devices much like the Palm Pre, and the Mojo pad enables current to be transferred easily as soon as the device is laid to rest on said mat. Heck, it's even smart enough to turn itself off once the device reaches a full charge. Unfortunately, pricing for the Mojo system is still undisclosed, but we're told that several OEMs are already looking into baking it into their next-gen products.

Too large to fit in a pocket and too small to be useful like a netbook; it's the latest money pit for people with more money than common sense!
Wouldn't it be cool if this thing worked with any device? If it just went in there and moved all the electrons to their charged states, or however batteries work:0).
I can definitely see this as a more common form of charging consumer products further down the line once there is some kind of global standard.
great idea, now people don't have to dig for each separate cord just to get it charged and also creates less clutter...
Which of those devices pictured is an Intel MID?
The iPhone? I'm pretty sure its the iPhone. . . unless its the Blackberry . . . or the camera.
Just spent hours reading through my Safari history to find this page just so I could mention it in another engadget article. It drove me nuts, and now I realize that this has absolutely nothing to do with Intel MIDs. WTF?
P.S. I know I'm late on this one.
flavor-aid...just sayin'
This would be very convenient, but the price would have to be very good for me to pay for it. The "setting things down to charge" is very convenient, but keeping that space clear all the time isn't, really.

The iphone dosnt even have the charging icon in the top right, thats just lazy
Even worse, it's running OS 1.0
I believe you needs special batteries to use this features.
silly idea for phones. the pre's touchstone is also a silly idea. i mean you can't make a call or text comfortably if the phone's battery needs charging. a wired charger gives freedom of movement, this tethers the device to a flat surface. silly.
Keep a cord around in case you need to make a call while charging...
Has _drunk_ the koolaid. Can anyone here write?
I could, but it would be worse. Just look beyond the errors at the meaning.
Yeah, keep dreaming guys. It's a fine idea, just as it was back in 2005 when SplashPower was showing off the exact same technology. But you can't even convince all the camera companies to use mini-USB, so there's no way more than a small handful are going to agree to deploy this, and it only make sense if most of your devices are using it.
I get shocked often from many electronic devices. Near field power solutions make me just a bit nervous.
For you ESD anal-ists out there, I know it's me creating the spark by my point is still a concern of mine.
