Samsung's S8000 "Cubic" smartphone shown on video
Wait, this thing's for real? Obviously so, else that's one awesome KIRF shown in the video just past the break. Sadly, it seems as if Samsung's AMOLED-equipped S8000 "Cubic" is still quite some ways from shipping to US soil, but those who need to brush up on their Spanish can tap the read link for loads of impressions.

Tegra is cool and all, but I saw basically the same video 18 months ago...and since then NOTHING. Not one product.
So, it is much less cool than when they first showed it, and new products are quickly making it an also-ran. Too bad, as I would love to be buying one, but I will be committing to a 2 year contract of some type this month with Sprint with the Pre or the new iPhone. Too bad, that Tegra basically missed the huge window and is pretty much doomed to only be bought by the people that want a cool phone AND can afford to break their current contact.
Nvidia Never sent the chips to manufacturers until early 2009 they delayed the 2008 release to improve battery life and some other stuff
Google HTC Superstar , leaked info about HTC all upcoming mobiles showed that it use Nvidia Chips plus Nvidia confirmed that they are coming this year
Still looks like Samsungs own OS, the one they use on the Omnia. Also think the phone styling could use a make over.
um
.. by Samsung's own OS you mean "Symbian"
.. this phone looks like an Omnia HD "nano" ie its a scaled down version of the i8910 HD
.. either that or its being demoed by someone with giant hands.
personally I'll go with the phone thats already on sale .. the i8910 HD is a really nice device!
Yeah, it's basically Symbian s60 (v5 I would assume since that's the only one that supports touch interface) with a custom Samsung design.
I like the OmniaHD, I just think it needs a little speedup since it seems a little slow.
With Samsung we can never be sure what OS they are using, they put their TouchWiz interface on top of everything. Samsung OS, WinMo and Symbian all look similar with them.
I think this could be either android or samsung proprietary OS, If it was symbian It wouldn't be doing kinetic scrolling, and youtube videos would have played directly from the browser since It has flash lite.
It looks like the same as Omnia's OS. I doubt they would completely overhaul the UI of the OS like that. Are you sure its not symbian?
The Omnia's OS is WinMo. You're talking about the i8910. Samsung completely overhauled the S60 UI with TouchWiz for the i8910 so why wouldn't they do the same with Android?
If it's the same as the i8910 you'll be able to turn it off anyway.
I thought i8910 was dubbed Omnia HD, which runs symbian s60
omnia != omnia HD
Same samsung OS.. i thought it'd look like the G1 lol.. i hate them all though
WebOS, great job.. am still waiting to see how would N97 work and the new iphone be.. I am really not expecting much from the Iphone, but still want to know.. :)
N97...The phone I dream about, but know will never get until either my Operator decides to carry it (it's Rogers in Canada, who are we kidding here...) or until it goes down in price :'( That'll definitely be my next phone though... It looks amazing. I just wish Nokia upgraded to an 8MP camera like they're doing with the N86.
Wow they revamped the poor mans touchsreen, the vu!!! yay!! oh wait!!! im sorry thats supposed to be dipicted as android!! lol..
any1 else notice how the source is Mobile Bulgaria? lol i found that a little odd.
definantly looks like a resistive touchscreen. saw definite flex in the screen when he was typing that search.
I work at BK. My fingers do not like resistive touch screens. At all. Gotta be capacitive.
Android's default ugly UI trumps TouchWiz in every way. Their stupid UI can't even differentiate between a slide desktop and move widget command. What a fail.
this does not scream android to me at all. it looks like samsungs OS
I can't wait until someone makes a TouchWiz skin for the iPhone
*yawn*
wake me up when they stop using their own crappy OS
All touchscreens not based on Windows Mobile 7 will fail. Seriously guys you definitely need to keep an eye on Microsoft next gen OS you won't be disappointed. Way 2 go Microsoft.
I wont be buying another Windows Mobile based phone no matter what they bring out based purely on principle. They have done nothing in the years they had the monopoly, and when finally competitors crop up they decide to improve it? That doesnt sit well with me.
It might be cool to hate Apple, but they dont let their products wither and what until someone "bests" it to finally update it. In saying that i wont be buying an iPhone in the near future but i do applaud them for not sitting on their hands.
Unix or screw it.
If I can't get a solid linux based OS, I'll take mobile OS X instead.
@Addrez, yeah of course they did nothing those years. If what you are doing works, why change it? It's common sense...
dude this phone looks freakishly hideous! yuck
Disappointed by lack of landscape-aspect in demo... come on, tilt that sucker and show me the accelerometer! you can't expect someone in 2009 to use a touchscreen dialpad instead of a full qwerty.
Add two lines to the button and you've got yourself a Zune logo.
such an annoying interface! Maybe it's just the demo, but samsung have come up with the most frustrating UI I have seen by far.
No iphonekiller here
Agree?
Yeah, kind of ugly..
Those call and end keys look horrifically touch sensitive....
This will be te phone that Samsung will present on the 15th of June in London, Dubai and Singapore...
I have Samsungs touchwiz the widgets are massive it looks like it was designed for a child, why cant they make the widgets the same size as android & spb mobile shell 3.
Samsung make nice hardware but the home screen is rubbish.
Carolina + Clipset rocks! The phone is alright.
Oooohh, a dedicated musikCube button.
