ViewSonic's VPC100 all-in-one PC now available for $600
ViewSonic's probably best known for its LCD monitors and not its all-in-one PCs, but those not turned on by MSI's AE1900 (for whatever reason) can surely give the VPC100 a look. First announced at CES, this 1.6GHz Atom-powered all-in-one packs an all black, glossy enclosure, a 19-inch panel, Windows XP Home and a lifetime supply of Fruit Loops. Wait, that can't be right. Anywho, it's all yours from a number of respected e-tailers for $599.

looking good,
but they're charging the price of a notebook for it.
400$ would've been a nice price.
Techie @ Jun 6th 2009 4:38AM
ViewSonic products has been going down hill ever since. The only good thing they manage to create was the ViewSonic VX724.
superhobo @ Jun 6th 2009 6:07AM

I don't wanna be an A-hole, but they're "Froot Loops"

d?niel @ Jun 6th 2009 8:22AM
no offense, but that looks like it was made in Apple iWork...
alexign @ Jun 6th 2009 9:36PM
It is quite remarkable that it is made on a mac as well. Not to mention that it has no prpose being there.
ArcticFox @ Jun 6th 2009 4:32AM

I wouldn't go so far as to say XP sucks, yes it's old but it works and in many people's opinions is still a better choice than the bloatware called Vista.
patriotsn1 @ Jun 6th 2009 4:49AM
bloatware called vista... its it 2008 in here?
ArcticFox @ Jun 6th 2009 5:02AM
Its only the better choice for ignorant people listening to the FUD anti Microsoft people spew, ive not had any issues with Vista and ive been using it since RC1.
Kelvinyam @ Jun 6th 2009 11:17AM
Try Vista with Mini 12 and you'll know why Vista sucks.
ArcticFox @ Jun 6th 2009 1:04PM
I run Vista on my Aspire One i dont have any problems with it, most of the problems with Vista are due to the idiot sat in front of the keyboard.
Junemas @ Jun 6th 2009 4:51AM
2008 or not, Windows 7 RC1 still uses less recourses than even Vista SP2, heck even Windows 7 Beta was better than Vista.
superhobo @ Jun 6th 2009 6:47AM
On June 6th 2009, between 4:45AM and 4:51AM, Junemas forgot how to reply.
Damo @ Jun 6th 2009 10:12AM
More like:
On June 6th 2009, between 4:45AM and 4:51AM the Engadget comment system was still a piece of crap that put replies where they weren't meant to be.
superhobo @ Jun 6th 2009 10:25AM
Ah, if that is the case, forgive me, Junemas.
MrTed @ Jun 6th 2009 5:03AM
er.. do they mean this thing can run Keynote?)
Sam @ Jun 6th 2009 5:18AM
crysis 2?
Sam @ Jun 6th 2009 5:21AM
that was actually to test my avatar. still not working...
Kelvinyam @ Jun 6th 2009 11:19AM
You need to have the picture resolution set to 64 x 64 for it to work.
va jj @ Jun 6th 2009 5:26AM
someone free this chick from the monitor.
Timoh @ Jun 6th 2009 6:57PM
I'll take her, they can keep the computer.
mirakutea @ Jun 6th 2009 6:02AM
Bezel/panel too large.. they should fatten it up and the back instead if they have too.
Damo @ Jun 6th 2009 10:13AM
I don't see people complaining about the iMac and its massive chin, but if another company other than apple has a chin on an AIO PC everyone cries "OMGWTFBBQ IT IS TOO FAT THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!!!"*
*May have been a major dramatization...
mirakutea @ Jun 6th 2009 11:18AM
this maybe double post:
edit: fatten it up AT the back
The chin on the apples looks smaller to me, or at least the designers have created an illusion so that it looks smaller, still most objective people will say the apples 'look better'.
Apple is like a rare piece of art, it is illegal to duplicate and it is hard to match it's subjective quality.
jimmy @ Jun 6th 2009 12:14PM
i happen to like the "chin" on these all-in-ones. My iMac has a chin, the Dell AIO's have chins.. it kinda lets the world know it's a computer, and not a computer monitor, and it fixes the ergonomics.
If there was no chin on these things, putting this on a desk would either cause the monitor to be too low, like a laptop, or it would be a monitor-on-a-stick, since the base would have to be 6-8" tall to raise to monitor to a comfy height.
I'll never buy one, but it seems like a great, inexpensive computer to keep on the kitchen counter to look up recipes and play some music while you cook...
mirakutea @ Jun 6th 2009 6:03AM
$600? build your own atom mini box combine with a $100 monitor.
mirakutea @ Jun 6th 2009 6:52AM
Atom box + monitor = $200-250.
Kelvinyam @ Jun 6th 2009 11:20AM
Agree. They shall add in the touch screen at least.
Jonathan @ Jun 6th 2009 6:19AM
Lenovo A600 for $699 instead, thanks.
mirakutea @ Jun 6th 2009 6:52AM
Lenovo said US prices will start at $999 (

viewsonic has always been junk.
their professional line CRTs were all junk that breaks down in less than 2 years. Their LCD were all maximized for profit margin and low performance and all use cheapest TN panels they can cramp in. I have no doubt this computer is build like crap as well.
