Flexible organic display brings PIP-Boy one step closer to reality

We've seen the occasional PIP-Boy-esque wearable in the past, and now more details have emerged on this flexible OLED that we first peeped at CES in January. The 4-inch organic electroluminescent display sports up to 1.67 million colors, QVGA (320 x 240) 100ppi resolution, and can be bent to a curvature radius of about 2 inches. Hopefully, this doesn't become a must-have fashion accessory any time soon: while it's perfectly appropriate attire for post-apocalyptic wastelands, we don't know how well it'll fly at the sorts of high society social events we normally frequent. We got one more pic for you after the break.

Didn't the Pip-Boy in Fallout3 have a CRT screen? I doubt it's possible to mount one onto your arm though...
MaxSMoke @ Jun 8th 2009 10:33PM
There's no shortage of continuity issues in Fallout 3. How can a can of baked beans last over 100 years? Why are they using CRT's if their technology was so advanced they had flying cars, robots capable of independant thought, portable Fusion cells, and fuctional laser weapons? Why do 100 year old cars explode like they all have a full tank of gas? Wouldn't Nuka Cola go flat after 100 years?
The game is fun, but the logic is ALL over the place.

Just an adv., save often.
superhobo @ Jun 8th 2009 3:15PM
You either die or you let her die.
Either way, the game ends.
Oh, /spoiler.
maveric101 @ Jun 8th 2009 5:15PM
superhobo, are you serious? you put the spoiler tag AFTER the spoiler? well you just ruined that for me and the OP.
Indefinite Implosion @ Jun 8th 2009 11:12PM
that was kinda a bastard thing to do superhobo :[
I have finished it, but for all the people that haven't you kinda ruined it a bit...

He's right and wrong...
You die, but the add-on content changes that and you do survive to fight with the brotherhood of steel (or nuke them)!
Indefinite Implosion @ Jun 9th 2009 4:08AM
except if you have it on PS3 :(
(for now anyway)
Sisyphus @ Jun 8th 2009 12:51PM
Looks like a sweet future peripheral for the next Fallout game.
kal326 @ Jun 8th 2009 12:52PM
Count me in as long as it can get something other than GNR on the radio.
superhobo @ Jun 8th 2009 3:12PM
This is your president, John Henry Eden.
SiXiam @ Jun 9th 2009 2:24AM
Yeah I liked Enclave radio better than GNR, but it has no content other than a bunch of repeated lines and I think one patriotic song.
LongshotX @ Jun 8th 2009 1:32PM
yah
Data @ Jun 8th 2009 3:13PM
I just want that thing Orion has in Chuck. Call it, PIP-Boy 3GS.
Yankee Fever 02 @ Jun 8th 2009 4:41PM
Pip-boy killed the game for me.
It was a very bad way to implement a menu system imo.
MaxSMoke @ Jun 8th 2009 10:35PM
I thought it was kinda retro-cool. Unrealistic and bizarre, but cool.
SiXiam @ Jun 9th 2009 2:25AM
What's the difference where the game menu is?
At least it doesn't pop out of thin air like a lot of games...
laero @ Jun 8th 2009 5:46PM
Does it come with that nice buzzing sound everytime you change view?
zirconyl @ Jun 9th 2009 12:14AM
Hey everybody, did the news get around about a guy named Butcher Pete? Oh Pete just flew into this town and he's choppin' up all the women's meat!
