We have a hard time believing that the FCC's documentation system is efficient and well-coordinated enough to actually reveal documents at the exact date and time that filers want them to -- so who knows, maybe the feds are in bed with Apple on keeping its most prized launches under lock and key until just the right moment. We kid, we kid -- maybe -- but at any rate, you can now peruse hundreds of pages of specific absorption rate plots for GSM, UMTS / HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth in both 16 and 32GB flavors of the
iPhone 3G S. It's not likely going to tell you anything you didn't already know or care about, especially since there aren't any external photos or user's manuals accessible yet -- but if you get really, amazingly bored this evening, it might be worth a look-see.

"maybe the feds are in bed with Apple". Maybe you guys should really check on that, if it's true then Apple's two-timing you! I kid, I kid -- maybe
But anyway, seems like the WWDC this time has given the anti-apple people very good reason to come out in full force, maybe you guys should tone down the apple-related news for a little while... it's getting tiresome reading their complaints as well
justin @ Jun 9th 2009 3:55AM
Is there a way to vote an article up or down? I mean, we can vote comments down and they get blurred out so it's harder for us to read or something of that sort.
By the way, go Apple. yay.
matt @ Jun 9th 2009 6:14AM
No we can't, the comment system does not work...
iphonerulez @ Jun 9th 2009 7:20AM
This is the iPhone and I am sensing...VICTORY. Another year for Apple to be the smartphone leader while the rest of the industry struggles to catch up. But there can be only one. The one and only iPhone 3G S. One year later, light years ahead.
As Steve Ballmer did his monkey dance for developers, developers, developers, they all walked out and went to the iPhone/iPod Touch platform.

@LordFarkward
"But anyway, seems like the WWDC this time has given the anti-apple people very good reason to come out in full force, maybe you guys should tone down the apple-related news for a little while... it's getting tiresome reading their complaints as well"
The main reason why the backlash over this was so large, was because for weeks....months, Apple fanatics had infested almost every topic pertaining to products that compete directly with Apple (Win7, Pre, Zune) with comments along the lines of:
"pretty stupid move releasing now with WWDC coming, where Apple is going to blow their crap out of the water"
Those juvenile taunts and attacks, or as the hypocrites on the Apple side would say "being a hater", were augmented with a cornucopia of rumors to ice the cake they were laying such as:
- OLED Screen
- Video Chat
- Front Facing Camera
- Flash
- A very special return of Steve Jobs where he would appear from behind the curtain with a device that will once and for all sink all of these "rip off wannabes".
On top of that, the snarky, childish remarks by that Phil guy, saturation iPhone posts, disappointed Apple fans, and then a thinly veiled damage control attempt by Engadget, set up the perfect storm.
skyblaze @ Jun 9th 2009 8:22AM
this particular post is actually pretty warranted as they always cover FCC clearances....
i've been kinda wondering tho... so... josh, chis, and everyone up there.... what are you higher ups thinking as alot of people down here complain about the recent influx of iphone news? (meh, ill probably be ignored but be nice if i got an answer ya digg...)

Joseph @ Jun 9th 2009 2:58AM
yay!!!!!
ismism @ Jun 9th 2009 2:59AM
Oh god Engadget, why not just post up some drawings your kids did of the iPhone or some toast that has what looks like an apple logo burnt onto it.
curtisrutland @ Jun 9th 2009 10:43AM
My god you people are a bunch of whiny bitches.
They put up FCC drawings ALL THE TIME.
http://www.engadget.com/tag/fcc/
Just because this one is of the iPhone, all the whiners and moaners have to come out.
Get a fucking life, people. If you REALLY don't like apple articles, the answer is to NOT FUCKING CLICK ON THEM! Apple articles induce flame wars, which drives page views through the roof. If you simply refuse to even acknowledge the post, then these kinds of posts no longer drive as much ad views, and will be less frequent.
Just quit your bitching.
curtisrutland @ Jun 9th 2009 10:47AM
I knew I shouldn't have even scrolled down.
For all you people that don't feel like reading 20 bitchy posts crying that engadget likes to post apple stories, don't scroll past here. There's nothing worth reading below anyway.
ismism @ Jun 9th 2009 8:43PM
yeah, i was joking. As if you could find an apple logo on toast!
Burn on you Rutland!
The Walrus @ Jun 9th 2009 2:59AM
Thank you Chris. I'm so glad you saw fit to tell us about the iPhone specs. This is the first I have heard of anything of the sort
L.M.L.Y.P @ Jun 9th 2009 3:01AM
Whoaw, the rumors are true?! A NEW IPHONE?!
Quick, grab my old iphone and trade it in for this one because i have a feeling this one takes calls!
Be Fearless @ Jun 9th 2009 3:11AM
this iphone was such a huge letdown considering there were rumors about fm radio + transmitter, matte case, and front facing video camera... oh well its something else for me i guess
Roland @ Jun 9th 2009 3:23AM
You guys are a joke, All the PrePalm coverage they did and you didn't say anything. And now they cover the event of the year for Apple user like me, and you are bashing them?
McPOW @ Jun 9th 2009 3:32AM
"the event of the year"
Put the latte down and back away from your Macbook and take a walk outside in the real world for a change.
The Walrus @ Jun 9th 2009 3:33AM
I agree with Mc, you need a break from writing your screenplay anyways
Roland @ Jun 9th 2009 3:36AM
@ McPOW & The Walrus
I didn't say "The Event of the Year", i said "the event of the year for apple user like me."
sven vollstag @ Jun 9th 2009 3:57AM
...when is the event of the year for good grammer'ers like you...
darx23 @ Jun 9th 2009 3:29AM
Another quality post engadget! I like you guys before you were owned by AOL.
But hey, if you think it's a worthy post to show some black-white sketches of the already 10 times posted Iphone 3GS, then so be it.
scott @ Jun 9th 2009 3:31AM
the majority of engadget readers enjoy the apple updates. way more than the ones who don't. Engadget, I think it's time for you to re-publish the article you wrote about how to leave certain things out on the site.
Miles @ Jun 9th 2009 3:37AM
I can't wait to get one of these.
I already scored a job this summer so I know what I'll be saving up for!
patriotsn1 @ Jun 9th 2009 5:14AM
Dude, save it for a car... Honestly, despite what the older fanboys will try to have you believe, an iphone will NOT help you get laid, it will NOT make you any cooler and it will NOT actually enrich your life in any meaningful way. Girls would much rather you take them somewhere than watch you post about how awesome your phone is on engadget.
kal326 @ Jun 9th 2009 9:24AM
@patriotsn1
Are you sure? Because the other day I swear I heard a commercial that said "Not getting laid, there's an app for that. Only on the iPhone by AT&T." It was on TV so it has to be true!
/LMFAO
Soulsaber @ Jun 9th 2009 3:38AM

It seems a lot of people don't like the Apple related posts.
Whatever happened to the RSS feed and alternative URL that filtered out the WWDC and Apple posts?
Why can't those trolls use that?
Prokanda @ Jun 9th 2009 4:30AM
lawl. pot ---> kettle.

I think that's what you 16 year old hypocrites are supposed to have as a copied and pasted sig, amirite?

DaKoolk @ Jun 9th 2009 3:47AM
Looks like great news for counterfeiters of all kind ;) Will YOU make it before the 3G S launch date, to push out a pPhone, with stunning GPRS speeds, dual sim and TV-receiver PLUS (of course) a sliding-out pre-like QWERTY?? LOL
mahmud @ Jun 9th 2009 3:48AM

I can use these drawings to measure just how completely and utterly identical this is to the iPhone 3G.
superhobo @ Jun 9th 2009 6:57AM
It weighs a whole 2 million micrograms more!
Danthok @ Jun 9th 2009 12:26PM

loopyoyo @ Jun 9th 2009 3:50AM
poll for an apple-free engadget?
Agent .25i @ Jun 9th 2009 10:27AM
How bout a 50% reduction in fanboism? That's a little more realistic.
+1
But really, how do you guys feel? I understand to get the upgrade/new phone your stuck having to renew contracts, or get new ones. I understand they look identical as well.
Are the new functions and abilities of the 3Gs hardware only, or software upgrades?
Too bad they left that chrome bezel around the outside.
webterractive @ Jun 9th 2009 4:19AM
I don't see anything really special about the iPhone 3Gs, it looks like the marketing of old from Apple. Remember when the iMacs were pumping out every six to seven months? All the same thing with something just slightly different or better? What's next the iPhone 3.5G with SD slot?, or iPhone 4G with slide keyboard?
Paul @ Jun 9th 2009 4:44AM

Maybe they would start posting more PC news except that 90% is PC related. Its WWDC what the hell do you expect? All you mac haters need to try using a macbook for a week or two. Then you might calm down and relax. Just because you're all stressed from BSODs and virues, dont take it out on engadget!!!
