ASUS might have launched the netbook era with the original
Eee PC and followed up on that with wave after wave of successfully more innovative designs like the
Seashell, but that's not enough for vice chairman Jonathan Tsang, who says the company's goal is "to provide products that are better than Apple's." No pulling punches here! According to Tsang, ASUS spends very little on marketing, instead preferring to spend the majority of its budget in engineering products so innovative consumers are forced to take notice. We don't know if that strategy will actually work -- especially since true competition with Apple would have to involve software, not just hardware -- but we will say that it's clear ASUS is doing everything it can to drive the industry forward, not just lying back and copying rivals like MSI and Acer. That's all thought-provoking enough, but there's more: Tsang also says ASUS has a motion-controlled game console that provides better tracking than the Wii sitting on the shelf because content deals are "complicated." Same with an ebook reader. "We don't have the chicken, so cannot have the egg." Well damn -- and we really like eggs, too. Hit the read link for the full interview.
I think that will almost always be the case. But the problem is the software that is on it. The Mighty Mouse scroll ball really pisses me off sometimes.
was i the only one that read this and laughed?
ASUS also produces components for other manufacturers, including:
* Apple Inc. (iPod, iPod Shuffle, MacBook)
* Alienware
* Falcon Northwest
* Palm, Inc.
* HP
I would not be surprise.
Dear ASUS, good luck doing that with Microsoft Windows stuck on the hard drives.
Go ASUS! You got my full support to bring down the fruity bastards!
Bring down Microsoft while you're at it too! lol
Asus can't bring down Microsoft without bringing themselves down because their products run MicroShyte Windows. There is absolutely nothing Asus can do to hurt Apple. If Steve just waves his hand at Asus, they will turn to dust. Asus has tried to take down Nintendo, but can't get any games to run on their system. Apple is far bigger than Nintendo and can get all the games and content they want because they will be getting all the developers. Apple will have the backing of all the U.S. The iPhone/iPod Touch platform will soon crush the DSi and PSP platforms like pesky bugs.
Asus would do better by just continuing to build motherboards and leaving Apple alone if it knows what's good for it. Asus will never have chickens or eggs and Apple already has the whole farm.
I got a brand new box from Asus three weeks after they lost my old old. Wow! what quite a **** service.
I hate to tell the truth about the quality of Asus NovaLite desktop PC. I bought it several months ago. It has a touchable power button which is supposed to touch and power on. Well, it worked in the first week. After that, I had to put my finger on it for a long time and rubbed it like I was harrasing a machine. A couple of days later, the NovaLite was like a dead fish without the bad smell. I called up Asus Taiwan. I sent the machine back with its box. More than one week later, I got the PC back with its box. This time, I found my network card working abnormally. I sent the PC back with its box. Well, since you have noticed that I always put the PC in its box, you can expect the PC coming back with its box. Wrong! The PC got back in a different box. What's so important about the box? Not as important as the power cord inside the box. At this time, I found that I had to harrase the PC to get it boot up. I called Asus and told them that I would trade up with a better PC and I would pay extra money for the new one. Guess what? Asus refused. Asus refused. Asus refused. I had to stay with the damn touchable power button. Don't you forget the box? Asus sent a new one to me three weeks later. What can I do with the new box? Not to mention the Novalite being useless.
I am Taiwanese and this is how Asus treats its domestic customer? Case closed for them. But, from time to time, you will see me here. Yes, including you, Asus.
Think thoroughly before you buy.
I think many of asus's products are already better than apple's, the problem is they're not as well known, but to become better known they need to advertise more, everybody knows what an apple computer is, and despite what people know on a tech website like engadget, a whole lot of people have never even heard of asus.
Believe me, the following post is in no way written as a fanboy of any sort.
But it's not all too hard to be better than Apple. You need two basic things: a really hip design team that understands the balance between minimalism and functionality, and solid, unified software support.
I actually think Asus is *almost* there with the design team. The shell netbook design looks like it was taken straight from an Apple design doc; the good and the bad, and maybe one from a few years ago.
And marketing, marketing is very important.
But otherwise, totally agree
I've had a P5Q mobo for a couple months now and haven't had a flaw out of it, buddy of mine has had his Asus mobo since 478 was the coolest socket. Still runs like a champ.
