Averatec introduces 25.5-inch D1200 all-in-one PC
Nah, it's no netbook, but it's certainly more than a rumor. Averatec has just cut loose details on its newest machine, a 25.5-inch PC / TV combo that looks to take on the likes of MSI's AE1900. The D1200 all-in-one PC comes equipped with a hybrid digital / analog TV tuner and supports buttery smooth 1080p playback. Specs wise, you'll find a 2.5GHz dual-core E5200 processor, 320GB hard drive, 4GB of memory and Vista Home Premium (64-bit). There's also an 8x DVD burner, 2 megapixel webcam, WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, Intel's G4500HD graphics, a wireless remote and a panel that's either WXGA or 1,920 x 1,200, depending on which version of the rundown you read. At any rate, it's up for order as we speak for a buck under $1,000.

Doesn't look too bad for the price tag
I hope it stays the same price when Windows7 hits, and I would really be inclined to get it as a new family rig, if it came with a Blu-Ray drive. Really make use of the screen size & res.
lol, blu ray on a 25 inch screen. You need to sit your face about a foot and a half in front of it to get any value out of that.
No, I have a 25.5 1080p monitor on my new computer, and it looks fantastic. I was using it as my main TV for a little while until I got the computer all set up.
I wouldn't be surprised if this thing uses the same LCD panel as my monitor, 25.5 is an odd size.
Blu-Ray would be a nice option. It won't make a huge difference on a 25" screen. but I can see the value in setting this up as a second TV/Computer in the Bedroom or Kitchen, and being able to play all my discs!
For a 25.5 inch screen, the optimum viewing distance of 1080p content is 3.3 feet. THX recommended viewing distance for full quality is 2.9 feet.

Aesthetics are good on this one.
It's ugly. it looks like a state-o-the-art lcd...from 2002.
This PC screams meh from a mountain top.
Meh, the price is 500$ lower than the competition.
@Boards of Canada
Its more expensive than nettops and all-in-one nettop-monitor combos.
Apple? I eat apples for breakfast xD
But how does it compare to the iPhone 3G S?
It multitasks.
It doesn't. And, it doesn't need to. Its a desktop, not a mobile phone. Your attempt at humor has been judged a failure. This is the reason Engadget is starting to really suck... bullshit comments by bullshit users.
I was actually interested in reading what people thought of this, and the lack of Blu-Ray,how would it be with Windows 7, how it compares to similar machines, but fuck it. Cant get through 4 comments without some douche yammerin about an iPhone.
Goddamn... if you want to make jokes, at least make em funny. The iPhone shit is like a hacky comedian...."Take my wife...Please" = "poinless iPhone reference"
Dude, relax. Life's too short.
"Take my wife... please!" is awesome.
Its better in every way except mobility ;)
@Barbaric:
From my experience, Blu-Ray on a PC works so poorly that it is no loss to leave it out. The software is utter crap, you have to jailbreak it to get it to work, and the only good solution to do that requires an annual subscription.
@Jon
I didn't know that about BD on a PC. I figured BD was supposed to run well on a properly equipped PC, I see articles about nettops and such doing 1080p... it seemed logical to me. I'm not talking about Blu Ray writable, just ROM to view movies. You can but an internal or external drive, and even some laptops come with a BD drive OEM, like the dell studio XPS 16. Thats where I was drawing my conclusions from.
@ Mile...
Dude, the iPhone shit is just annoying, its bad enough its all Engadget seems to care about, but why inject it here. It usually just creates a fanboy flame war that ruins the post and makes it hard to read informative or genuinely funny comments... its just played out. Get creative, like "Averatec silently intros new all-in-one, nobody notices elaborate scientist costumes at launch"
I think it looks pretty good.
Hybrid tuner is nice...I'm waiting on an all-in-one with dual tuners and cable card support!
Suits me more than iMac. Atleast the pricetag does...
darn the next lcd I buy will be a 30" and above. Better for watching movies on. Cheaper too.
lol man how is this related?
I love my Dell 30"!! got it for 800$ and its marvellous.
I love my 30" Dell too but I think 32" TV is cheaper and better for movies.
Sorry for off-top :)
LOL....
I meant to say LCD monitor! LOL....
Wait so this is 999usd?! that is pretty damn impressive for all in one, until I noticed the CPU, not a core 2 but still, it does what it does and costs what it should cost, nothing more, nothing less.
Barbaric is right.
I too was actually looking forward to reading some comments about this.
Fucking Apple Fanbois.
Are you two like brothers or something?
You know, it's rumored that the christian Eve ate an apple, and we all know how that turned out... apple fanboys would be wise to judge their cocks against the iphone; both are small and completely worthless unless you are in the right spot...
Sounds like a pretty decent computer considering how sleek it looks.
I would understand if it was Atom-based, but with an E5200 why bother with a suck-ass G4500HD GPU???
I don't get it--where's the tower? $1000 for just the monitor and keyboard/mouse? Ridiculous!
Are you serious, don't you understand the meaning of all-in-one?
if the drivers can take a LInux OS then i'm down...
The unit uses all standard hardware. Intel wireless card, Avermedia tv tuner card, etc. I am sure Linux will run on this unit.
This form factor will never work. What if the screen breaks? You're supposed to send the whole thing in and then have no computer? If the monitor was separate, you could just plug in another monitor.
Lame.
Get a new unit I guess. I've encountered the argument of "putting all eggs in one basket without a chance to replace the parts" back in the early 80's, but it must be a concern that has been around since people discovered they could invent things. The same logic could be made about 20mb hard drives way back then, about laptops, walkmans, pdas, smartphones, integrated mother boards, you name it. Given the history of Things, this concern has largely been a distraction.
There will be a Windows 7 upgrade program when it is released.
