Mark Cuban promises the first 1080 NHL & NBA arena next season
It should be no wonder Mark Cuban (got some Jerry Jones envy?) is promising the first NHL & NBA arena with 1080-line digital scoreboards. While 1080p has been well entrenched in scoreboards for the outdoor sports (like the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees) it appears the winter brethren has been slacking, but with the Mavericks and Stars not competing in tonight's finals action, plans to upgrade American Airlines Center ahead of the 2009-10 seasons are already underway, with four 18- by 30-foot video scoreboards coming to the center display and two 24- by 72-foot video walls at the north and south ends. If that's not enough, the sounds are getting a makeover too, with a "state-of-the-art concert quality sound system" bring a digital six speaker linear system to next years attendees, though we should all get a (3D?) look during the 2010 NBA All-Star Game next February.

I wonder if Cuban is footing the bill by himself for this because Tom Hicks [owner of the Dallas Stars, Texas Rangers, and 1/2 of Liverpool FC] is in financial trouble.
BTW, I was at Yankee Stadium last week and the scoreboard is fantastic!
Well, we won't get to see it at the 2010 NBA All-Star game. It's being played at the new Cowboys stadium.
Damnit I was about to say that and you took my thunder lol
I never look up at the scoreboard when at a game anyways, (or down if I'm in the nosebleeds). Why watch a screen when you can watch it live? Still, if you're going to watch it, it might as well be in HD.
It matter because there's no announcer in live game, you has to depend on score board for that, also many seat have crappy view to the game, so idea of having hi def screen to watch is a plus, imax experience alike in live game?
Say what you will about Mark Cuban, but the man loves his technology and loves bringing it to the rest of us. HDNet and HDNetMovies are 2 of my favorite channels, and the things he does with his sports arenas are great for fans.
Mark Cuban is like a die hard sport fan happened to be the team owner, sometime he does over reacting and not professional. But again when is last you see a geek savy rich guy has that much interest in sport?
