It does. The jack is like the ones in the iPhone. It support both in and out. Just not at the same time (obviously). Most people use USB mikes anyway, so it's all good!
apart from microphones. what other audio input devices are commonly used today? i never actually used that input before, the only thing it does is annoy me when i plug my speakers and realize its the wrong hole.
Ah yes, I forgot about the iphone-like headphone/headset jack. So, it does have line in, just not stereo.
There is some great software that you can pair up with diy software to use the line-in as an o-scope. Pretty neat actually. Wont be able to have the same functionality with this setup.
And ya, for audio recording, usb/firewire is the only way to go.
I know several of you don't use this port but for fixing computer issues, this makes tasks about 75% easier and faster. Let the old silver piece-of-crap MacBook burn!
I don't really care for the audio input. I used it with a handheld mic before. The internal one sounded better. It could've been the the mic, cable, or adapter though. Ehh.
The device is aimed at gamers and TV watchers, generating a 3D image with use of a pair of 0.7-inch OLED panels, which each display separate images, doing away with the ghost imagery that often comes along with 3D displays.

awww, the 13in doesn't have audio input anymore?
I guess it's a fair tradeoff for firewire, but that's still sad.
takes me back to my ibook days.
Apparently the one audio port down both in line in and headphone out. Pretty cool actually.

@Mike:
I bet it also annoys your girlfriend when that happens.
USB audio is always the way to go for audio recording. I suppose for Skype, you're out of luck if you prefer a headset mic.

Thank God for the return of the Firewire port!

Does that mean there's no optical input any more? I use mine on the MacBook all the time.
@Mike:
I've used the one on my MacBook Pro to plug my guitar in. It's good for trying out effects in Logic (or Garage Band).
Yea pretty cool function... so how much does Apple charge for these "up to 2x less space consuming" splitters to hook up a mic and speakers?
