nice!! now bring it on round the country!!
id love to have WiMax here in orlando!
YES!! I am lucky to live in sin city. . . .but unlucky because I have nothing to access it. . . .
WiMax seeds?
Yeah, too bad I don't like Las Vegas all that much, with the non-stop smoking everywhere, and the heater turned up on high.
is it expensive to connect to?
www.clear.com
2GB/mo cap plan -- $40/mo
No cap plan -- $50/mo
Day pass -- $10/day
Those plans don't require any contract (just month to month).
They also have a $35 activation fee which they will waive with a 2 year signup, although saving $35 for a 2 year contract doesn't exactly make sense.
the $50 plan is for two devices, either one home, and one USB, or two USB devices, each having independent 6MB/500kpbs speeds.
I had Clearwire WiMax in Reno, NV a couple of years ago. The speed was phenomenal for a consumer based setup. I was pulling a steady 5mbps everyday. And the awesome part was it was only $40.00 a month.
So when the nerds get rejected by the hot Vegas prostitute they can connect using the one or two devices that support WiMAX, yay!
First of all, prostitutes don't reject anyone.
Secondly, I live in Vegas, and I'm still not going to use WiMax, I already pay for an internet service.
HELLO?! Chicago please?
Comcast hss f'n monopoly over Chicago, I've been dying to see another player get in this market.
If you've visited Vegas and wanted WiFi acces in a hotel room, you know it's a revenue source for the hotels - Caesar's Palace charges $12 a day for it. It will be nice to have Internet without the additional upsell fee from the hotels!
I hope they expand those that coverage. Particularly to the west and south..
I am in Las Vegas using it right now to write this post. It is absolutely amazing! This is by far the best Internet device I have ever used in my life! I have sold wireless data technology since 1994 from CDPD/Ricochet/CDMA/EVDO Rev0/EVDO RevA/Clearwire pre-WiMax and now this. When you all get your hands on this product when it comes to your city, it will become a part of your life, it is that amazing.
I am getting speeds that I received with Cox Cable (I happily dropped their service) and my speeds are much faster than Embarq DSL. My modem works in many areas in the Las Vegas Metro area and it seems like there are new areas being turned on every day because I revisit areas that did not work last week that work today.
I am also selling the product and I am in the process of opening a new store in town. Because the economy is the way it is, I am hiring outside salespeople to show this product to the people of Las Vegas. This product is a "sure thing" in a city that has really been hurt by the economy.
Engadget posters are perfect to demonstrate and sell this product because of their knowledge of the industry and because they have a passion for this technology as I do. If you are in the Las Vegas area and would like to check this out and potentially be a part of history, drop me an eMail (preferrably with your resume attached in a MS Word file) to careers at progizmos dot com (Engadget prohibits me putting my eMail address in as a link).
So far I have five people selling Clear 4G WiMax for me and they are all making money. Once people see this product, they have to have it. Also, for the poster who asked about the price, Clear has priced it to be competitive with Cox and Embarq and most of my customers are now EX Cox customers. The product is that good!
Engadget readers in Las Vegas who want to make some extra coin selling 4G WiMax technology please drop me an eMail with your resume. You are all passionate people about technology and are many steps ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to this kind of stuff. I am opening a new 4G WiMax store in Las Vegas and I am looking for the best outside salespeople to demonstrate WiMax to Las Vegas. We will beat this economy together! If you are interested in this, please send your resume to Careers@ProGizmos.com and I will read each and every one of them personally and get back to you.
We are going to sell some of the best products and services and integrate WiMax into them. I am very "out-of-the-box" when it comes to marketing and selling this technology and I am a daily Engadget reader. We sell Clear's WiMax completely differently than anyone else and our customers really, really like us. We are going to turn Las Vegas into the most "un-wired" 4G city in the world. I will need some good people to help me do that so if you are interested and you live in Vegas, drop me an eMail. If you do not live in Vegas, we will be coming to your city soon. If you are visiting Vegas anytime soon, please drop me an eMail and I will give you directions to my store and we will visit Engadget together using this amazing new 4G technology.
I use Clear's 4G WiMax each and every day and I am using it now to write this post...Pretty cool stuff! VERY FAST, affordable and NO DATA USAGE CAPS!!! You will want this when it comes to your city.
David...
From what I have been reading from the industry, Chicago is slated to get it sometime this year. Also, since Comcast is one of the seven companies behind the new Clear and Clearwire, I am sure you will be able to purchase this incredible new technology through them once it is deployed in Chicago.
I will say that once you use it, you will be hooked. This product is amazing! Clear is really here to stay!
You had Clearwire Pre-WiMax Expedience service in Reno. They have not yet deployed WiMax 4G in Reno, only Portland, OR, Atlanta, GA and now Las Vegas, NV. When you get this in Reno (hopefully they will be putting this on your towers soon), you will really see something that you have never seen before on your mobile, wireless Internet. If you have the opportunity to come down US 95 to Las Vegas anytime soon, look us up and we will demonstrate it for you. You will see and experience what I am talking about. The new Clear 4G WiMax product is simply fantastic!
actually, you're correct with the exception of forgetting baltimore, which had it before atlanta, and was launched along with portland originally. either way, clearwire/wi-max is the wave of the future, and i look forward to it giving competition in non-competitive monopoly markets!
Plenty of wimax and still no water.
For the record: they didn't necessarily 'SNEAK' WiMax into Vegas.. They had an entire BOOTH announcing it and talking about it at CES. Geez guys.. *sigh*
P.S. Coming to Salty Lick City, UT soon. Ooof..did I say that out loud?
Sweet, I reside in Henderson, NV which is part of the greater Las Vegas metropolitan area. Anyway, I'll go test this later with a WiMAX enabled NetBook or something. This is going to be so useful.
I sell Clear WiMAX in Atlanta. . .
it is just....really really really super fast. mainly because there's only 1500 subscribers so far.. got a DL speed at speakeasy close to 11Mbps, UP was close to 2.5Mbps
pretty impressive. everyone loves it.
I beta tested Xohm here in Baltimore and could get on in a lot of places in DC despite it not being advertised. I am pretty sure there is more coverage out there than is advertised but they don't want to officially offer something like this until they are sure an area is blanketed with signal.
I hope they upgrade the pre-wimax here near Reno. I am just outside the coverage area, so I can only get 1.5mbps, and it is a bit unreliable if the weather is bad, but it is the only high speed internet option where I live besides satellite.
I have clearwire in seattle, and frankly.. it sucks. At times, internet is faster on my Iphone 3g. I can get 2mb down at times, but it just really inconsistent.
In seattle you are locked into a 2 year contract. Its cheap (29 per month) but you get what you pay for. i'm considering switching to comcast, because i cant stand the inconsistent nature of clearwire wimax. Somedays, it just runs slow as hell. I wish i could get fiber, but not in my area yet. . . .
So if anyone is really gonna try this... dont lock into a contract... stay month to month at least at first, to see if it fits you needs.
San Francisco Bay Area? Hello Clearwire? HELLO?
SF Bay area is next on the list. They piggyback on Sprint's towers (e.g. they will add their antennae onto sprint's towers)
Palm Pre 2 with WiMax! We can only hope.
C'mon guys, Vegas has been "live" for more than 10 days already:
