i believe engadget is pointing to the fact that presidents aren't suppose to have personal electronics such as laptops,phones,etc. this is due to the fact that all communication that the president participate in has to be available to the public.
I read "grave mistake" and thought it was going to be an article about how Obama had left his cellphone on during flight. The mistake being that now the entire world knows that its total bs when they tell you to turn off your phones so the plane doesn't crash. Then I realized that the only mistake I made was assuming this article was about something more important than a damn leather holster.
Socialism is an economic system and fascism is a political system. Fascism refers to one party (government) being in control of all aspects of a society. An economy is one aspect of a society. Socialism is government control of prices/supply within an economy. Therefore socialism = fascism in this example. Ask anybody that has had any history of economics classes.
Apparently you geniuses know how to read, and click on links. If you would have done both, you would have noticed the obvious sarcasm.
"If it were, 99.79% of the American corporate assets that existed at the start of the Obama administration would not remain in private hands. The differences of degree are so small that they aren't worth mentioning. And yet, somehow, they keep getting mentioned."
Its likely that his Blackberry is identified on the network as a random cell, and that all calls to that phone go to a land based system that transfers them to his phone. Just a thought. It makes it unlocatable unless you already know where he is.
By your own definition of fascism involving government control of all aspects of society and socialism applying to one (economy).
One != All ---> socialism != fascism
I don't know about your history of economics class, but a grasp of basic logic would probably be helpful.
Also fascism is more than just government control over all aspects of society it is more of a mentality that a government should exert its power in every way it can which includes other societies.
They've already talked about that, they didn't want the prez to have a phone due to security issues. But his is a "modified" version of the BB that is always under a encrypted signal + tighter security
Since capitalism failed and went bankrupt if you really support capitalism bush-style you best kill yourself, the logical state you would be in with capitalism followed to the end would be dead as your world has ended.
In short the ideal system is a little bit of everything including socialism, and not just a whole lot of capitalism and fascism (defined as totalitarian right-wing selfish brutality of a few rich elitist soulless bastards), and I think that's been well proven now and there's no longer any purpose of fanatically trying to deny it.
Get out of the goddamn 1950's already america, all of you, yes you too republicans.
Some interesting theories on politics in the US... The differences between the democrats and republicans are so slight and insignificant, that the only way you can tell is that one party tries to help all the idiots of the country while the other takes advantage and manipulates them. How else do you explain George Bush staying on for a second term. Judging by the comments here, there are many idiots.
By the way, both parties are neither fascist or entirely socialist. They are both conservative, democratic and slightly socialist. American politics are so boring that the only way to make it exciting is to use hyperbole and initiate witch-hunts. Good luck
Sadly, the most communist organization in the country is our own armed forces. An army general makes 100k while a private makes 10k per year. Now, does anyone know the pay difference between a factory worker and a CEO? An army private is provided with food and shelter so long as they provide service to the government. A factory worker... well, you get the idea.
HP's Jon Rubenstein told us that his company wanted to veer in a new direction, and veer it surely did -- the HP Veer 4G will arguably be the smallest fully-functional smartphone on the market when it goes on sale May 15th.

Only matters if its activated, not to mention we dont know if blackberry has cut a deal to having such a device being made "presidential".
Pointless reach on engadgets part IMO
he's not socialist, he's an anarcist. The fasten seatbelt sign is clearly illuminated.
@blakecr: I'll take socialism over fascism anyday.
Socialism is awesome. It's the only way the citizens win, and yet so many Americans are arrogant and don't realize that.
Sorry but socialism is fascism.
Socialism=Fascism
Socialism is not the same as Fascism you idiots.
There is no socialism in US. Actually there is no left whatsoever.
@oversteer325 & Alex: Socialism and Facism aren't even close to the same thing. You should probably stop posting comments and go back to school.
"Socialism is awesome. It's the only way the citizens win, and yet so many Americans are arrogant and don't realize that."
Because you obviously understand what our huge population needs better than the rest of us do. Save the high and mighty bs for another day.

What Socialism Looks Like, Conor Clarke

I would also like to add
Democrats = a little Socialist
Republicans = a lot Fascist
U.S.S.R = Red as you can be Communist
There is a difference. I happen to find nothing wrong with a little socialism.

Nilay Patel believes that someone will be able to get close enough to Obama to steal his cell phone.
