Uh, oh. It's the Xperia X2. Time for Engadget tech-nerds to start drooling and panting, swearing to their mother this is 2X better than the Xperia X1 and at least 3X better than an iPhone 3G S. 8.1MP camera and an honest-to-goodness physical keyboard. This will be claimed to be superior to a Palm Pre or a Nokia N97. Even if it displays that nasty little four-patch symbol in the upper-left corner. The so-called lipstick on a pig. At least it might be capable of running Symbian and Android which would help immensely.
I'll be totally amazed if SE can manage to sell even a few of these super-featured smartphones (another $800 handset). I hope they have plenty of parts in the supply pipeline this time around. Maybe SE can recover at least part of the huge loss they had with the Xperia X1 that nearly no one bought. SE's CEO said the X1 was just an experiment. Like a lab experiment that blows up in your face.

I have the X1, and I've gotta say although this doesn't look as sexy, it looks a lot more sturdy and less crack-able.
the 8.1MP camera really is a boost from the 3.2mp, hopefully they improve the speed and responsiveness, and all will be well! =D
I think the keyboard looks too much like a laptop keyboard.... disproportionate.
Psh, should've just upgraded the inside of the X1 and left it at that, it looks great!

No it doesn't. The pictures you see are of a prototype and some reliable folks with insider info says there are other protos with the 1 GHz Snapdragon in them.

Nice, WinMo 6.5 also. Keyboard looks awesome.
One would think, but WinMo6.5 is really just 6.1 with a revamped interface. Save the new Today screen and threaded text messages there's not much better about it than 6.1. I've been running it on my Herald-based phone for a while and while it is better, it's not nearly as good as Android, iPhone OS or (and this one is guessing, as I've not used it) WebOS.
the threaded SMS was added in 6.1...
Phoenix if you really want to be nit-picky threaded SMS was added the moment they made the Palm 750 threaded sms installable on other wm devices.
Although not a Sony fan it is a nice phone. Good thing I can take comfort that HTC actually makes the phone for Sony.

this doesnt stand much of a chance against the qwerties like nokia n97/ htc tp2, meh... its time they hired a good design team, only people that might buy this would be SE investors... SE will stay and most probably extend its financial woes.... sad

I hope it has the same high resolution screen as the X1... or is it a new OLED screen?
not sure about the res, but it's 3.5 inches and it's using OLED this time around.
It's the same 800x480 resolution as used by the X1, but this time 3.5" and AMOLED.
That keyboard makes the phone look like it's 2' wide.
damn if the camera's at 8.1 mp then I'm sold. wanted the X1 but the camera resolution on that (after I already bought my K850) was disappointing
The X1 looked much more elegant, this just looks ugly, like a KIRF X1 or something.

The X1 was not a great device, but not because of the build quality. In fact, I don't think that I have ever held a better feeling smartphone. The build quality of the X1 is really great - I came very close to paying $800 for it. In the end, it is not worth 1/2 that price though - poor battery life, panels was not very well done, etc, etc.
FWIW - this photo looks _worse_ than the X1 - I hope they can do better than that. The silver X1 had too much bling - this thing is basically the Escalade of smartphones - keep it out!
X1 is one of the most expensive feeling phones I have laid my hands on with its metal body. And the battery life is awesome with its 1500mah battery. What are you guys talking about???
