Not much detail on this yet, but Archos just announced the Archos 3 touchscreen media player. The 8GB device has a three-inch touchscreen and will do 14 hours of audio playback, as well as photos and voice recording. We're waiting for pricing and availability, we'll let you know.

It's too bad Archos does such a crappy job of supporting their devices.
Qsat @ Jun 11th 2009 1:55PM
Can't agree more, i have a archos 5 for a year, and it's terrible. Archos are putting beta device on the market and then they try to fix it's issues over the year. When it's finally working as promise, it's obsolete and you have to change anyway. No more archos for me, ever.

Too much bezel :|

This is a clone of a Chinese MP4 player:

chris @ Jun 11th 2009 1:25PM
i read somewhere of it having around a $100 price point
joe23521 @ Jun 11th 2009 1:26PM
8GB is pretty weak for a PMP in 2009...
The Walrus @ Jun 11th 2009 5:27PM
Nope
Verythrax @ Jun 11th 2009 1:28PM
Archos is on a row!

This would have to be priced 50% less
Than iPod touch in order to even be considered competition for touch,.agree,?
Then maybe people might actually buy one here in America .
Icello @ Jun 11th 2009 2:46PM
It's not even a video player. Make that 10%. A non apple player with better features has to be 75% of the apple price if it expects to sell anything at all.
Homeboy @ Jun 11th 2009 1:41PM
14 hours of music playback is absolutely appalling. Most devices with such screen size have at least twice as longer battery life.
M. @ Jun 11th 2009 1:49PM
yeah I had to rub my eyes because I couldn't believe it, probably they are going to compete on price with this thing.
Anyways hope Archos isn't going to charge people for plugins with this thing...
matt @ Jun 11th 2009 1:59PM
Not you again.
Jonh @ Jun 11th 2009 1:59PM
Looks pretty decent. But you have to come up with alot more than decent to beat the iPod's and the superior Cowon's.
ichheissesuperfantastisch @ Jun 11th 2009 2:08PM
this looks terrible, and i usually try to support Archos' efforts. 14 hrs audio? is that even possible with modern Li-Ion batteries?
superhobo @ Jun 11th 2009 2:10PM
That article is too clean. What will I bitch and moan about? Where's iphone comparison? :(
Jon @ Jun 11th 2009 2:28PM
Does archos still try to rip people off with those codec add ons?
Who still buys their gear anyway? I'm all for rooting for the underdog, but not when the underdog is run by a bunch of crooks!
Félix @ Jun 12th 2009 5:54AM
They made you pay for HD codec that No PMP on the market was offering ...
It's like kicking Apple in the guts because they make you pay for iFart on the Appstore..
Not everyon needs it, so it's an OPTION.
I do realise that a country that has produce both Microsoft and Apple cannot understand what options are.
Matt @ Jun 11th 2009 3:31PM
What's with all the Archos post's, Nilay? You some sort of fanboy?
/Twitter sarcasm
Nilay Patel @ Jun 11th 2009 4:48PM
Ha, totally made my day.
Félix @ Jun 12th 2009 5:52AM
An iPod touch is $229..
This is gonna be sub $100
Can you even count ?
(maybe that your problem america... just saying.)
tuxguy77 @ Jun 23rd 2009 7:46AM
I don't know why all of you are hating, 14hours plenty for casual users(not people who use their PMP at work when they should be finishing their report) use it on the bus then dock it when you get home. If you want to listen to your music at home get an iHome. And they haven't confirmed there won't be video, just because in the picture it doesn't show video doesn't mean it won't be there. So just lighten up, a lot of people will like and use this device.
