Husqvarna's Panthera Leo is the mower of the future for your lawn of today
Concept cars are a dime a dozen around these parts -- but concept lawnmowers? A little more rare, and the latest from Husqvarna looks to be about as closely related to that rusty John Deere in your shed as Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes McLaren F1 car is to your boss's E-Class. It has paddles on the wheel for adjusting three independent mowing blades, a "sophisticated" LCD display that displays speed and obstacle proximity, and a rechargeable lithium-phosphate battery with enough staying power to trim your yard for two hours straight, all shown in a soothing and thoroughly rendered promo video after the break. The one thing it can't do, apparently, is tame the wild locks of Swedish male models.

Eco friendly? how will that help the environment.
Small gas engines are more polluting than larger car engines.
I think goats are a lot more eco-friendly .....
Avoiding the power cord could potentially make your yard look like you were trying to write your name....
Do goats emit methane?
Nothing beats a front yard rock garden for eco-friendly... Nothing to mow, and no emissions. But wait, then there's less green to help convert CO2 to O2... Arrrrg... My Head.... Must... Try... And... Stay... Green...
Some methane, but not much. Cows are a bit different. Besides, most of the methane comes from giving them dry corn, soy and grain based feeds which their digestive systems are completely ill adapted for.
The best thing to have in your garden, or part of it, is fruit and vegetables for you to eat.
Saves you a ton of money - especially if you want organic - is vastly more efficient, and if managed properly can look really attractive.
@ Nelson: On top of all that, imagine the carbon footprint required to haul all those rocks clear across the country. That is, unless you've carrying them by hand from the local quarry. Just don't drink any bottled water when you're done, or the greens will have your head. :-)
@Ryan
Idiot, the cord is just so you can charge the battery.
Stop planting grass weed seeds and you won't need this monstrosity. Plant some low/no maintenance local flora.
Those cows will learn all about releasing methane when those farmers start to get taxed for it...
I'm sorry but the most attractive this thing haves for me, is that it is quiet. i still don't get how this thing called climate change is so bad. i think it is just nature running its course. we Minnesotans see snow and grass fires but you don't see us complaining. no, we don't try to change the weather, we just work around it. i do how ever believe in resource management and this all so kind of has that going for it but i really don't know.
I have a Husqvarna right now, I would definately buy this. This is something the Jones's won't have!!!!
Yeah, try mowing 2 acres with that thing, you'll run out of batteries in no time, then you would have to wait till it recharges to finish the lawn. Booooo!!
I'll stick with my John Deere. It's loud, but it get's the job done.
@xcrunk - You go ahead and do that. All the gas wasted on lawn care and all the pollution created is gross and disgusting imo. I worked in landscaping for two summers during college and my company, along with every company around town, would mow lawns every week whether it needed it or not. Complete waste. I applaud this company for at least trying to change things, comments like yours stop progress.
How do you expect him to mow a big lawn. Just half of it? Then let it sit and mow the other half the next day? That doesn't work for people who have limited time. You need to get in and mow the lawn when you have a few hours.
Comments like yours lack common sense. This holier than thou attitude is the reason why people don't more fully embrace aspects of the environmental movement.
@shaunisadirty
Elitist snobs like yourself only make your cause that much harder to convince others. Grow up. Ill take my rock solid Yardman over this piece of overproced plastic any day.
ya but robosapien already does
So when companies hear that people are not interested in their product and only say negative things about it they are supposed to spend billions more in R&D to improve it when they could simply move on. Yeah, thats what I'm getting from you guys.
I think I would break it within 10 mins. My John Deere has been through all sorts of muddy situations and always come out on top.
Anyone else think that the 4th thumbnail image (from the left) looks like a face?
yes....yes I do....
I knew it, Skynet is becoming self aware in lawnmower form! Tin-foil hat time.
Thats what it look like when it tranforms, duh! With the new transformers being the VOlt and other wimpy eco-friendly cars, im not surprised about a transformer looking like a lawnmower.
that would go well with the Dyson Vacuum cleaner
Instead of a steering wheel, they should have gone for a Wii-mote or at least those twin bars you push-pull on that are used on other zero turn mowers like Dixie Chopper and Cub-Cadet.
Give this thing a roof and it could be like the car from Thundercats.... thunder... thunder... mow!
seriously i got thundercats vibes from that as well, I would rather call it Panthro though.
As if I didn't want one enough already, you had to make me think of the Thundercats. Damn, preorder time!
Okay... how do I get one? This would make me want to mow the lawn again myself.
Looks expensive. Only problem with that is that people who can afford it will probably just pay for a lawn mowing service.
Threre are a lot of DiY types that would pay big bucks for high quality stuff and who's pride would be harmed if they paid someone to mow their lawn.
Pfft, silly Husqvarnas, doesn't know it needs an iPhone dock to be considered a future car.
Silent AND potentially deadly. . . .
look more like a racing seat for video games than a lawnmower
LCD display: from the department of redundancy department.
I'd drive that to work.
I'm glad I read the rest of the posts. I came here to post exactly this.
Nice, and I'm all for an electric mower. But this thing is for small yards with soccer field grass. Put that thing on St Augustine and you won't be going anywhere.
yeah.... St Augustine grass is a bitch, mowed it a week and a half ago and its already grown 4 inches. gota cut it tomorrow.
and thats not to mention the hills on my property. wonder if that would affect battery life.
They sure believe in recycling. I was using that music in industrial videos at least 20 years ago, and I'm sure it's been used about 50,000 times since then.
Pretty neat though. I'll be even happier when it's completely automated, and has a guard/patrol option.
"Look Honey, no need to fertilize, AND no annoying squirrels...or salesmen...and it's been a while since we've had any mail.... Have you seen the dog?"
Expensive to use, lithium batteries lose their chatge capasity in 4 years whether they are used or not A gasengine might be better for enviroment considering that private lawnmowers dont get that mutch use.
Professionally used that might be ecofriendly, but 2 hours battery capasity does make it usable only to limited areas.
Oh, and I dislike CGI concepts. Nothing except physics stops making a CGI consept of interstellar plane. So make it, dont render it.
what is "echo friendly" and "air gonomic"?
silly non english speakers
What genius decided to design a WHITE lawnmower?
Good point. Maybe it washes itself too.
Exactly! This company should have taken a que from John Deer and every other lawn mower company who make GREEN and BROWN equipment.
I sometimes think techie/concept companies have a tenuous grasp on reality.
You DO realize that Husqvarna is not just some wacky European concept company - They make more chainsaws than anyone in the world... you may better know them as Craftman at your local Sears...
Uh, yeah, can't wait to see what this thing will look like after a few rounds of mowing. I'm imagining something like the end results of a toddler attacking a white wall with a green crayon.
This looks like it might be part of the Mobile Armored Strike Kommand!
This will work perfectly for the 40 square feet of sod i'm planning on laying on my apartment balcony...
Panthera _and_ Leo in one? I smell a MacOS killer.
