Neversoft interested in bringing turntables to Guitar Hero, making large amounts of money
We've already seen a bit of guitar in DJ Hero, but apparently it might not just be a one way street: Neversoft (developer of the Guitar Hero franchise for Activision) hinted to Eurogamer at E3 that they're interested in bringing the DJ Hero turntable to future versions of Guitar Hero. They also aren't ruling out the possibility of bringing drums to DJ Hero -- which seems to us an even more exciting prospect -- and we're sure in a few years time you'll be able to direct wire Activision to your bank account and fill you living room to the brim with more-or-less interoperable pretend instruments.

so true. i can't tell you how much guitar hero/rock band/etc crap I have in my basement. My brother's a sucker!
General_Trelane, (retired) @ Jun 13th 2009 7:04PM
wholly mackerel!
you people are pathetic...
It was bad enough having people pretend to be able to play like Slash, but why would you want to spend $250 on a fake turntable, console and games when you could just go out and get a real turntable (used) some vinyl and really learn how to scratch...
C'mon you are basically pretending to be a DJ...
LET ME SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU..
YOU ARE A LOSER THAT IS TRYING TO PRETEND TO BE A LOSER DJ...
reality @ Jun 13th 2009 7:14PM
VERY TRUE
Dj'ing has come along way since vinyl. If people are talented enough they too can actually "DJ" on computer based DJ software like SERATO or TORQ and spin House, Hip-Hop or whatever.
This Dj hero thing is trash. The only good thing about it is that maybe some kid might play this and , (meaning kid under the age of 18) will actually be inspired to pursue "REAL DJ'ING"
cheers

@ Trelane
They are games. They are meant to be fun, mindless entertainment.
I know *in the real world* I can't play guitar like Slash, shoot aliens with a machine gun, drive Farrari's through Paris, or play a round of golf with Tiger Woods. Do I think that by playing ANY video game I could do those things in real life? Nope. Do I care that it is pretend? Nope. But I do enjoy unwinding and being entertained... and that is the point.
Grow up.
GingerFox @ Jun 13th 2009 8:07PM
Well said Gib.

Anyone else find reality's name ironic?
MegaBite @ Jun 13th 2009 9:30PM
This has got to be the stupidest idea ever. What songs to you really need to scratch, anyway?
reality @ Jun 13th 2009 11:03PM
Your right chaining somebody in Gears or racing Le mans is out of reach for a lot of people but dj'ng or playing music isn't.
I don't want our youth to choose to pretend to play a musical instrument or dj house or hip hop on a video game. Ideally they our inspired to pick up an instrument and CREATE.
Unfortunately video games our dulling our youth's creativity...to an extent
cheers

Good for Neversoft!
I understand why people might not like having 2,000 fake instruments in their living rooms, but I think the point is you won't need to get that many "interoperable pretend instruments".
Neversoft is trying to get all of the various guitars/turntables/drums/etc. you may own into their future games. While you may have to buy DJ Hero to get the turntable, you will have it on hand for GH6 - GH56 (or however many they make). If I have the instruments already, supporting them in multiple games makes the cash I spent on them seem less wasted. If I can pick up a new game that uses more of the accessories in my house, I would be more likely to buy it. Nothing wrong with that.
Yeags @ Jun 13th 2009 5:45PM
I'm not a big fan of hip hop or rap, but I know enough to know this is going to be a big money maker. Now if only I thought of it first...
Monkey with glasses @ Jun 13th 2009 6:41PM
Your statement is true. You don't know much about rap or hip hop to know this will fail. Being gangsta and being nerdy don't go together unless it's T-pain dumb wardrobe.
EricC @ Jun 13th 2009 9:13PM
I don't think DJ Hero (and its ilk) are about hip-hop or rap. I think it's more about dance music...I could be wrong though. Having little interest in this particular sub-genre of rhythm games, I haven't read all that much about it.
SLUSHIE @ Jun 13th 2009 5:45PM
Seems to me like they could just make one damn game...
SLUSHIE @ Jun 13th 2009 5:47PM
... and judging by the photo, each game requires its own Xbox.
Antonio @ Jun 13th 2009 5:50PM
Not exactly, out of the 3 xbox i'm sure 2 of them have RRoD

ROFL, even tho i'm sure Microsoft fix that problem (could be wrong), that was funny.
cterry511 @ Jun 17th 2009 3:39PM
One game would mean less money. They want to have several thing that cross sevral gaps. instead of one thing that covers one. you know the term "jack of all trades master of none".

Being the IIDX player that I am, I can't wait for these new DJ games to come out so I can dazzle US-music-gamers with my mediocre IIDX skillz.
AceJay @ Jun 13th 2009 7:39PM
On the bright side, at least IIDX won't be mislabeled as "a Guitar Hero ripoff" but now "DJ Hero Ripoff"
Well, Scratch.
videoCWK @ Jun 14th 2009 1:26PM
Oh hey Paul. Didn't know you read this site. You should'a been at the Lanes yesterday. Fun was had.
Anyway, that may be true, but a quick google search and some logic-twisting could reveal that EVERYTHING IS A IIDX RIPOFF

I don't see why DJ Hero only has guitar as a playable instrument(other than the turntable of course). It should have drums INSTEAD of guitar. Just look at Travis Barker and DJ AM. Awesome music. Yet you don't see Jimmy Page and DJ AM. Why? Cuz it just doesn't work as well as drums...
this is coming from a guy whose been playing the real guitar for about 4 years now. :)
Joe @ Jun 13th 2009 7:16PM
You don't see Jimmy Page and DJ AM because that makes precisely fuckall sense. There's a plethora of guitar-driven bands with a turntablist/drum machine than there are drummer/turntablist combos. For typical music it's a bit redundant.

Just you wait, one day they'll bring out the game which amalgamates Mellotron Hero and Digeridoo Hero. You haven't seen anything yet.
In all seriousness, where will this madness end? The gravy train will run dry eventually as people get pissed off at having to buy yet more kit. Rock Band and Rock Band 2 exist, with The Beatles version coming in September. Guitar Hero? I've honestly lost count of how many different versions of that there are, plus DJ Hero and Whateverthehellnext Hero.
For all the different versions of GH there are, Rock Band is far far more fun in my experience. Not to mention the ridiculous amounts of DLC you can get without having to drop £30 on a brand new game every five minutes.
sachomartin @ Jun 13th 2009 9:22PM
my Linkin Park with plastic toys set will be complete!
Shotgun @ Jun 13th 2009 9:24PM
@ UK
Unless, of course, you own both RB and RB2 on PS2. THEN you gotta buy a new friggin' game (Track Pack Vol. 1000!) just to get one or two more 'good' songs
And... donno about the DJ kit (not a hip hop or crap, I mean rap enthusiast), but you CAN use the Mic. and Drums w/ a PC to record. Oh jeez! Does that mean that even though I can sing or drum on expert I'll never have rythym or pitch in real life?
I'm still for the fact that people should have to pass a test and be licensed to browse the internet, let alone post their dribble. :D
