Funny how they note that it is SLI capable. I wouldn't even think about SLI in a case that small.
Works just fine (have a barebones sx58h7 w/ a 285). Case is *tight* for sure, but cooling isn't a problem. With the heat the 285s and 295s put off, I wouldn't think twice about trying a 2 card SLI (but you have to stick to single slot cards.
It's not for everyone, I built the machine for size and noise and on both counts, it's a win.
Gimpbully nails it, you can only do a SLI setup in these SFFs if you use single-slot cards; given that pretty much all the models in the 200 series are dual-slotters, I'd pick ATI's 4850s or 4770s instead of going back to Nvidia's 8800/9600 models..

If I wanted something $4, I'd get a gaming laptop. The whole point of SFF/Desktop gaming is better performance at a much cheaper price.
Yeah a gaming notebook would make more sense if you need EVERYTHING crammed into one package but if you want a PC to take to LAN parties or whatever, this is a much more appealing option. The specs of this PC would completely obliterate any gaming laptop out right now. Personally I would build my own small form factor PC for a lot less, but there will always be people that can't or don't want to.

No, the whole point of SFF is small form factor. That's why they call it Small Form Factor.
Agreed. These things arent small enough to warrant that price. Midsize towers arent THAT big - you can pretty much put one anywhere in a fixed location - under a desk or behind a monitor even. Small size is really only good for portability, in which case, get the laptop. 4k should buy you something pretty nice. (else just build the maxed out rig yourself for half the price.)

I don't see the need for this size. Either get a laptop or get a bigger desktop. It's not hard to take a mid tower to a lan party, I've taken my Full Tower to lan parties before. If size is an issue, Micro ATX would be small enough to lug around with ease and still let you cram a full gaming rig's worth of parts into it.
Actually, now that I think about it, one of the mid towers that I built actually had a handle built in to the top of the case, it was ridiculously easy to move around. Like a misshapen briefcase. Another solution to lugging computers to a lan party is to grab one of those harnesses you can wrap around you computer, a friend of mine got one from thermaltake that worked quite well.
It is neat though, what you can cram into a small space like that, I just would never make something like that.

The mac pro has TWO core i7s in it (if you get the octo core). The xeon they use is essentially a core i7 with multi processor support and ECC memory support.
xeon and i7 aren't "essentially the same", they're not even close to each other in performance and power draw.
i7 wins hands down.
lazarpandar, the latest xeons are nehalem based, which is the same as the i7s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehalem_(microarchitecture)
The current Xeon and i7 are, in fact, *exactly* the same. They are the same piece of silicon, on the same package, fitting into the same LGA1366 socket. i7's even have the second QPI link Xeons get, it's just disabled so you can't use two of the cheaper processors.
i don't think that crammed case it worth all those bucks. for half the price you get the same performance in a bigger case.
that's the point, if you pick this case, you're looking specifically for a small form factor..
I love shuttles, but that is REALLY pricey :)
Man my shuttles PSU went out a two months ago. This looks very nice but at the barebone price of $719 that only $100 less than I paid to for my Shuttle spec'd up how I like it almost 4 years ago. I wonder when they are going to come out with a similar setup but for the intel i5 cpu.
Same thing happened to my Shuttle circa 2004 the PSU packed up about a year ago. Never liked the thing anyway it looked cool enough at the time but sounded like a lawnmower.

Why are these still called htpcs? Once you can playback perfect 1080p (which can be done on the cheap now) what is the point? This is a sff gaming pc, or an epically overpriced htpc that will never get past 50-60% working capacity just running video.
Although, sometimes I like to render 3d models while watching 1080p and running folding at home. Oh wait no I don't.

Wow, good job... took me a second to get it though, had to lean back about 3 feet lol
buy the barebones on newegg. The SX58H7 is $650. get 6gb of ram, 1 TB HD, and $300 for vid card and you only spend about $1200
I think you forgot to add the Core i7 processor itself, that's about $280 for the 920, so the total is around $1500.

I put together my first Shuttle G5 SFF about a year ago. I love the size, performance and design of the Shuttle case. At first, it was a bit tricky putting it all together due to the small size. My only complain is the NOISE from the unit. I believe it is coming from the PSU which is loud if you are in a normal room. I have a few newer Dell desktops and the Shuttle is definitely a lot louder. Shuttle does sell an external PSU for some of their models but charges $120 for each on Ebay! Support is good. I'd build another one IF they can take care of the noise issue.
