Would you want it if it was 7 lbs? My XPS M1710 is just shy of 12lbs. It can go anywhere my 9400 Insperon (at half the weight) goes. I just don't understand your comment, or others just like yours for that matter. Is it the size, or the weight that kills off it's portability for you? I haven't run into issue with it's size when bringing it anywhere. Although it did come with a backpack made for it, making taking out and about easy. It fits in my messenger bag too. Weight has never been a problem... 12lbs, only form my front door, to my car. From my car to friends house/work/airport etc etc.
I think a lot of the comments like yours come from people that are just plain ignorant of how powerful these DRT's are, and how useful the portability of that power can be. Remember kiddos, this is not a Hello Kitty, weak breasted, Nancy boy netbook here.
@Agent I think I asked a valid question I never sounded rude or condescending, and you did by calling me and the "people" ignorant and "kiddos" Maybe I should have given you a whole story about how I use my computer, that I did used to play games, but I don't anymore, and since I don't do CAD or A/V editing, I have no use for laptop that powerful, big, and heavy.
@ EB Ok, sure, but at least I answered your question. You've replied with terrible grammar and mis-quotes. Also, on top of that, you haven't even answered my simple question. Now who's being rude? tsk tsk
You seriously want perfect grammar on some comment section for a blog? I could write an essay on this thing in perfect MLA or APA format if you want, since I have a major in English Literature. Oh, and no, I wouldn't buy a 7 lbs. laptop. I probably wouldn't even buy a 5 lbs. laptop. As I wrote in the last comment, I have no use for a powerful laptop nor desktop.
Okay, everything else aside here. If it was one pound, would you consider it portable then? I know, you have no need for something like this, I get that, but you asked a question, for which seemingly you didn't want an answer to. I just don't see how the weight plays into portability. Unless 10+ lbs is taxing for you. This is what I find to be confusing about what you wrote. I would argue that the size of these behemoths would cause more to have issue with portability, not the weight.
I do think weight has something to do with portability, because it would cause somewhat of a discomfort when it's over a certain weight. You're right though, it's the size that would cause issues with it being portable or not more than the weight.
As for my excuse, I was confirming my plane schedule with a friend in Korea, in Korean of course. It's hard to convert between the two languages, although lack of punctuations in the second comment was purely my fault.
@ EB: Your comments on this post are kind of pointless, its like me going into a post on the new ASUS Eee netbook and saying WHY CANT THIS PLAY CRYSIS!?
Different machines for different markets. There are people out there with different priorities than you, and if you spent less time pointlessly arguing in your own threads you'd see that there is at least some demand for products like this.

What is the point of having an 11 pound laptop?
With that much weight to carry around, it's not really portable anymore is it?
Well for LAN parties and such, it's portable.

You can build a briefcase computer if you're that big into LAN parties. It'll probably weigh and cost less.

Irony is soooo delicious.

More like "Hi, I am an idiot and have absolutely no grasp on English grammar at all. I have never used punctuations and have never written a sentence composed of more than 5 words."

Very good. You win, I lose, blah blah.

Go to the gym and sympathize with someone there about how you can't carry your 11.5lb laptop.
