I don't get it. We saw a real application running on Surface that shows the exact same stuff. Phone displaying data.... Digital cameras showing their photos.... And I think it wasn't a video, it was an actual application...
yes, but this is probably a lot cheaper and a lot more accessible.

This is not the future!
As you can see the objects use images on the back to identifie themselves to the table.
Which means the values are static!
It would been awesome and future material if they used RFID's instead and use REAL values of the object instead!
No, The object definition is static, the contents dynamic and could be read via bluetooth, for example for the phone.
The object definitions would (should?) simply define the object type,eg phone, usb drive etc. However, until all hardware supports remote indexing I'd guess that, for example, the hard drive would display that contents from the last time it was connected.
@Robijntje007: Of course this is not the future! It is only a demo how it COULD be some day. Of course now it works with markers at the bottom of the objects. It is a concept right now of course!
At one point it wouldn't even work with markers... it was all just a dream, but here we are today lol

I don't think this is very practical in the real world. I'm looking at my desk right now and even if I clean up the general clutter there's still not enough surface to display all that info without becoming a mess. I mean I have my camera, cell and touch, all withing a few cm of each other - if each one had a bunch of stuff displayed around it I wouldn't be able to really read the data 'cause it would overlap. I imagine this is the case for a lot of people.
That was what I was thinking, certainly a majority of people have tons of stuff on the desk obscuring any info displayed on the surface.
I guess you need two desk in that future, one to use as desk and one to show off.
Useless Experience?
Looks like crap. Bad/cheap Microsoft Surface rip-off if you ask me.
Can do the exact same thing at home now. Got several milk glass desks overhere. Take a cheap beamer.. rfid tag scanner and make some 'futuristic' animation.
Contrast is soooo bad.
Yeah you could but nobody would even hope you might manufacture it, whereas asus is a big manufacturer you see and you might see some tangible spin-off from this.
If you have to react.. use your brain and don't post a pointless b*llsh*t comment.
That looks cool, and some of it is, but I bet it would get annoying fast.
Sooner or later people realize that the key to getting things done is simple, comfortable interfaces with as few distractions as possible but with the ability to get whatever information you need and get whatever you need done with as few interactions as possible. Last thing I need is a spinning kaleidoscope next to my coffee.
I remember seeing something like that in Macross Frontier, haha.
Granted there may be a couple things that may be useful for companies and stuff...
But who cares about that anyway, people want this "future stuff" in their homes.
imagine if you have sex on it , and the table would display something like:
1) fake orgasm
2) fake boobs
3) other semen detected
4) she's not your wife, she's your neighbour, proceed?
5) one more time?
bla bla bla..
and then the table got spywares & started advert pop up on everything u put on it. damn.

How useless is this? I don't want every bit of information thrown at me like bricks. If I want information, I'll ask for it.

And i said nice concept just because it´s a nice concept,, but they gotta work hard with that horrible gui and definitely show some real use functions for it , since they just played a video of 100% basic functions...
and wtf would i like to know the temp of my coffee ? and i don´t want a machine that heats up my coffee because i only like it fresh :)
Cubicle version: Just how long has that coffee been there? If I were to drink it anyway, would I get sick?
