Samsung Omnia Pro to be the Louvre B7610?
We're actually surprised we didn't make the connection earlier, but word on the street today is the the rumored Samsung Omnia Pro will actually be a renamed Louvre B7610, a set that's been popping up a lot lately. Makes sense -- the Louvre's 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED screen, 800MHz processor, and 5.1 megapixel camera match up nicely with the Omnia line. It's running Windows Mobile 6.1 right now, but we wouldn't be too surprised if the rumored August release date is held back to September or October to coincide with WinMo 6.5. One more pic after the break, couple more at the read links.

Windows 6.5 with the option to be upgradeable to windows 7 when its out like the xperia 2 or bust
Agreed. I wouldn't feel good buying a WM device right now unless it can get WM7.
meh my buddy has a vx6900 on verizon and it really isnt too bad (besides the wrong type of touchscreen), i never really found a problem with the os itsself, it works ...
this phone has some great specs though i would love to try it out
WM 7 won't be out anytime soon though.
That is the longest "__________ or bust" sentence I've ever seen.
That's a pretty funky keyboard arrangement.
It doesn't seem that strange or funky to me, the symbol placements seem to be very logical as well as similar to desktop keyboards, with a few adjustments. I would consider it a very good keyboard, although the lack of a fifth dedicated number row prevents me from doing so.
For now, the TP2's keyboard is king for me. It's not just the offset, it's space between keys, and although we won't know for sure for a while, I suspect better tactile feedback from the buttons given that this looks a little thinner than the TP2.
What do u guys think? Louvre B7610, Nokia N97, Xperia 2 or HTC Touch Pro 2???
Love this keyboard though!
the Louvre hands down. its everything the touch pro2 is and more like 3.5 jack!
True!!
If you need the power, or you're big on TV-outing some HD vids (Hopefully that's what they're shooting for when advertise some vid codec acceleration), this is a contender.
But I wouldn't say it's everything the TP2 is and more. I wouldn't even say it's everything the TP2 is. The TP2's best features barely register on a spec sheet, if at all. It's one of those few devices that grabs the experience of a generation of devices and finely presents an implementation that makes you go "wow" when you use it.
Why isn't this the Android phone we've been waiting for :(
800Mhz is pretty damn powerful too.
If some tacky Korean manufacturer can produce such high spec phones why can't the everyone else?
tell the Apple fanbois about it, they will tell you that the iPhone 3GS has doubled its processor capacity!!!! to 600mhz...... LOL And this unit is already 800mhz. If I remember correctly Asus has one that is doing 1GHz
@darkmax
I'm very tired of those "Apple fanbois this, fanbois that" crap. Okay, if you actually read what that iPhone 3GS CPU is actually compared to, you wouldn't say so. It is compared to a 1GHz CPU by it's performance. Yes, iPhone has it's flaws and good sides, but which phone doesn't? It's not about which phone has more MHz, it's about how the system can run at specs given. Well, looks like 600 is enough for OS X and 800 is about enough for WinMo. I'm an Apple hater and I use WinMo based phone every day and yes, I like WinMo more just because of multitasking and advanced-userfriendliness(admit it, you can do more with WinMo/Android/soon also WebOS based phone, than with iPhone)
Also, I am looking forward to this phone, I've had several Samsun WinMo phones in the past(i200, i600 and so on) and I'm just impressed with the built quality of those lil bastards :)
Tacky Korean manufacturer? There's nothing wrong with Samsung and your insinuation that anything Korean is poor quality is insulting.
Yeah, you can't use MHz to determine the Processor is powerful anymore. Each type of CPU is designed to do specific task. It also depends on the OS architecture Max OS X might only need 600 MHz while WinMo might need 800 MHz and you still get slow response after awhile. The latest Broadcom chipset for netbook for example is able to process HD video with the current battery size continuously for 3 to 4 hours in a single charge. Of course if iPhone 3GS uses 800 MHz that will be very powerful but don't forget the cost will also be a lot higher. At the end because Samsung Omnia 2 is using WinMo, I have to avoid it!
What determines a good smartphone is not just based on the hardware specs but also the OS, ease of use, and the supporting developers.
Base on my past experience in WinMo, Android, Symbian, I would have to say, iPhone's OS is so far one of the best for it's core features. Of course, there are still many features lacking in iPhone OS, but at least it has revolutionized the user interface of a touch screen only device. Apple did point out the flaws of the old touch screen interface and re-invent the entire UI specifically for mobile use. Because it is too convenient, iPhone users have occupied the highest percentage of web browsing, sharing pictures directly from the phone to social network WITHOUT MMS! music listening, etc among all other mobile communication devices on the market.
@ImPulse
You see what I mean? Actually I did read the Apple iPhone specs and I know what they were comparing it to. I also know that there are so many fanbois out there who knows nothing about it.
Bottom line, Apple ranting and raving about a measly 600 mhz processor is laughable. I always get a kick out of their keynotes. They make me laugh.
@Osiris: You must be stuck in 1990 if you think Samsung is a 'tacky' Korean manufacturer. Sony has long since dropped the ball on a lot of the product categories it used to dominate. Samsung's TVs, MP3 Players, and especially phones have consistently been better than Sony's offerings, and are usually at lower price points as well. Oh and FYI, Korea is widely considered to be a first world country by most standards of measurement.
because samsung isn't some tacky korean manufacturer, lol. get out of your little hole dude.
@darkmax
Let me get this straight, ImPulsE gives you a well reasoned response and is pro-Windows Mobile and yet you disagree with him/her? I am sorry but you are an idiot. Who cares about the hardware specification? What is important is the software and how well it runs. You can throw all the MHz you want at software but if it still runs like crap then the whole user experience is crap. Ideally, you want a device that runs your software well and has the LOWEST processor speed that you can find so that your battery lasts longer. By all means, argue about the quality and functionality of the software for a device but don't get caught up in a MHz pissing match, particularly with something that is expected to draw as little power as possible.
Oh, and knock it off with this "fanboi" nonsense - it isn't a word and you aren't impressing anyone.
Was about to buy the Nokia N97, but this phone is very very tempting. Anyone knows if it has a flash?
Another kick ass phone that won't be running Android. WinMo has plenty of freaking market share.
Android can't become more popular if its only on TWO ok devices.
Damn get it together
Agreed. And those "2 okay devices" are too overpriced :(
Where is competition?
Omg who cares?! I dont want dodgy google products on my phone, my PC or anywhere!
Oooh, yes, if it had an open source operating system that I wouldn't mess with--but would let other more qualified software folks mess with--it would somehow serve me far better than the most robust smartphone operating system on the market. Please.
Yes, because this is yet another phone designated for Windows Mobile, we must do our best to complain that it does not run use Android, but only because it's a Windows Mobile phone, despite the fact that Windows Mobile already supports tons of applications, is very versatile, has native Exchange support, can have mobile Office programs, has been fairly well tested, familiar to many people, and integration with some other Microsoft products. Oh, and the fact that it's not endorsed by Google.
By doing our best to complain and whine on a post not at all related to Android, we will succeed in getting Android, a mobile OS where there's not as many applications yet, where you can't get tethering (yet), where you can't use an SD card to load apps (yet), doesn't use full Java standards, among other nice qualities onto every phone in the market. This is the mobile OS we want.
Yep, we should definitely do our best to complain and complain on WinMo posts until more Android-based phones come out.
Cool phone. Thankfully it doesn't have that old 528mhz Qualcomm processor like so many other winmo phones.
Samsung isn't "some tacky Korean manufacturer", Osiris. Get yourself educated!
Ill take 5.
Hope it won't have this mascara thing that the Omnia had as a stylus. Well I forgot its a Pro Omnia which means more business to me!
Nice phone but it needs Android.
yes, so does every other phone, no?
Get real. No matter what the blogs tell you, Android's capabilities are currently nowhere near that of WinMo when it comes to meeting the requirements of a business user.
Finally, a QWERTY keyboard instead of AZERTY one for Europe
Most of Europe always gets QWERTY, France and Belgium only gets AZERTY.
If there's an omnia pro, and an omnia hd, I want my omnia diamond!!! :P
I know you guys get sick of us saying "yeah but it needs android" on every WinMo post we see, but it seems like these companies are more excited about 6.1 and 6.5 than they are about Android. If I were in the market for WinMo I'd have phones upon phones to choose from. Ridiculous.
16-20 by the end of the year?
Looks pretty, but I recently tried (and subsequently bought) my first non-WinMo smart phone in the BlackBerry 8330 Curve. I can't even fathom going back to WinMo. The only missing piece is ActiveSync, but that is provided by AstraSync for $50 (sucks to pay for it, but the service works very very well, and works with the lower tier BIS, saving you $15/month).
WinMo was slow no matter what CPU was in it. I've had a T-Mobile Dash, HTC TyTn, HTC Libra, Moto Q9m and a HTC Touch Diamond, all were promised to be faster than the previous, and all were exactly the same feel. They would all frequently tell me I was out of memory despite task manager saying there was over 18mb free, would 'remember' alarms and go off even after that particular alarm was deleted, etc. Just too many nigling little problems.
The blackberry, by contrast, and even despite being a 1.5 year old phone (at least), feels very snappy. There are times it bogs down, but its seldom and only when I know i load too many apps at one time. I used to talk smack on BBerry. I used to be a WinMo fanboy. I've switched camps and until 7 I see no reason to look back at all.
I guess you answered my question, so why were so many apps created for it?
Even with many thousands of third party apps, winmo still sucks?
Most of the winmo apps i've used just simply aren't that good. I think the fact that the SDK is out there, the OS itself is relatively open for apps to hook into the OS/Hardware directly pretty easily, and its very similar to desktop Windows development makes for a very easy learning curve.
Also, having 12 apps for 1 task just tells you that none of them can be very good, or else no one would bother creating another. At least thats how I look at things when it comes to the linux world. If there was one be all and end all app, there wouldn't be 36 different ones in the repositories. Just cuz you CAN code an app doesn't mean you should, or theres a need.
I thought WinMo 6.5 required a "windows" key? Or was that 7?
If this makes it to AT&T, I'm definitely in for one. I had a BlackJack and BlackJack II and loved both, and Samsung dropped the ball with the Epix so when upgrade time came around I went with a Fuze/HTC Touch Pro. I kinda regret it since I already lost the LCD on that fragile POS and TouchSLOW isn't helping.
The way I see it, these are your options when it comes to smartphones:
1. There's an app for that. Except the one that lets you run multiple apps.
2. device.exe is insisting on crashing your phone, for no apparent reason. Send error report?
3. E-mail e-mail e-mail e-mail. I can't really say anything negative about BB OS other than not liking the UI.
4. Series 60 is alright, and probably the most stable of the bunch.
5. OMG WEBOS. Time will tell.
6. mmm...cupcakes. Where are the devices?
Odd how I love WinMo but can't find something bad to say about a few of its competitors. If decent S60 devices didn't cost a fortune I'd probably be using it. Seems like all the great Nokia smartphones only make it stateside once they're a year old and have had half their features removed by AT&T.
Windows Mobile always gets the sexy hardware, while Android is left with toys and bland designs....
Indeed - all Windows Mobile needs now is sexy software to go with the sexy hardware and make everything useful. To be fair, however, the software is generally more important than the hardware since good software can coverup for a multitude of sins on the hardware side.
All WinMo needs now in the hardware is capacitive touchscreens.
Hopefully they'll be supported in WinMo7 if ZuneHD has anything to do with it.
OK, which idiot was responsible for naming this device? Seriously, "Omnia Pro" is a good name while "Louvre B7610" is a terrible name. If they just renamed it the Samsung Louvre then I'd be OK with that but what's with the unmemorable "B7610" model number? The Marketing department needs to be shot.
There are lots of misconceptions. A 800 MHz processor that Omnia Pro is using can't directly use the clock cycle to compare to iPhone 3GS. As Cortex-A8 600 MHz is equivalent to 1.2GHz ARM 11. We still don't know what processor that Omnia Pro is using beside the clock cycle.
I'd rather compare to the Pre, because according to Apple fanboy logic, the 3GS copied the Pre's processor.
