DataViz brings Documents To Go to the App Store
Editing documents? On a phone? We're sure most iPhone users are a little taken aback by this prospect, but we assure you it's completely safe and devoid of artificial preservatives. DataViz just launched its Documents To Go suite for the iPhone, which lets you edit and create Word documents, sync work files with a desktop over WiFi, and view other Office documents with the iPhone's existing viewer -- it's not the first app to offer some of these functions for the device, but it's the first with this level of street cred. An optional version of the app also includes a Exchange mail client with ActiveSync for accessing and editing Word documents from email, which seemingly flies in the face of Apple's vague "don't mess with Mail or any of our other built-in apps" policy. The basic Documents To Go app retails for a limited time at $4.99, while the Exchange version goes for $9.99 -- and anyone who picks up the 1.0 version will get a free update to include Excel editing once it becomes available.

Google Docs?
Quickoffice for iphone is out too
And I paid $21 for the full version! :-(
Wow, only took like 4 or 5 months longer than it did for android...
yea but it's a crapload cheaper this app for android cost 19.99(though we get a free upgrade to exchange support). overall iphone users pay $15 for both apps and android users pay 19.99 that doesn't seem fair.
@jay jay actually it looks like iphone users only have to pay 10 bucks if they need exchange, otherwise its just 5 for the basic suite. i think if you buy the exchange version it also comes with the basic suite.
Perhaps a price drop is in order for the android version?
@B3astofthe3ast
actually their planning to do the opposite. that 19.99 was a limited time introductory price once that limited time offer is over there going to raise the price to $30.00.
Not fair? The Blackberry one costs $70 for a non-expiring license.
Now what the hell is that all about?
Yeah but the Blackberry one has been out for quite some time now, and at the times it was sexier to have office editing capabilities than now.
Since the markets are not intercompetitive, why would they change their prices and make them the same when they can rip people off...
Hence the need of regulation.
I think I just demonstrated the weakness of a neoliberal economic system, based only on facts.
I'm Kinda proud.

Tube.
baby
Does it come with a keyboard?
Yes it does! In fact, one that'll change languages/symbol sets (including '\'!) as you desire!
Way cool.
Apparently you guys advocating for a physical keyboard have never seen Star Trek. In the future we use touch pads.
Oh yeah! sweet.
this is 40 dollars on palm os(old)... sounds like a good deal to me.
In the future we use telepathy...
In the future, all your keyboards are belong to us!

gsmhosting brings it to cracked store.
Since there's no metaforum forum - what's with all the cell phone and mobile device posts on the main Engadget site? Isn't that what Engadget Mobile is for? There's got to be more to new technology than phones and netbooks. It's getting tiresome to skip past all the same old same old.
please read the last sentence of the article again, thanks.
If u don't use Microsoft exchange can u use gmail or aol email and save attatchments that have been emailed to u? Can u store a doc natively on the phone and attatch it to an email u send with gmail, aol mail etc? This is what my docs to go on my outdated centro can do and has been doing for years. Trying to choose this or quickoffice version for my iPhone. But so far, I don't believe either platform can do this like on the old school palm version.
I would also like to know the answer to these questions, except in my case for Hotmail.
Docs to go has always been one of the best apps on Palm OS. And one of the best Mobile Office suites on any platform. So woo!
Can't wait for the webOS release!
I really expected that these apps would support Open Document.
You can't even e-mail the documents you're working on if you don't use exchange. It's so cheap because the app is useless.
you might hate me for this but I'm waiting for microsoft to officially release a MSOffice App on the iPhone. Why? It just feels wrong to me.
That is something Iphone really needs. I wouldn't mind paying for this app. I was thinking of a similar application to build, but could never get time and money to start on. I hope this company is looking for Developers. I would love to work for them.
The G1 phone has had this app for months the iphone sucks and is so far behind, this is just one of the instances where the iphone came out with things other phones have had for several months, like a camcorder
Thanks that's exactly what i was going to say. Screw the iphone, Android will rule the world soon.
Cannot get the exchange to connect so I cannot bring in documents or email documents. I loved this program on my old Palm but not as useful with the iPhone limitations. Also you can only connect to your desktop over WiFi. If your computer is hard wired to the internet, you cannot pair the two. So much for my $10 down the drain.
I loved this application with my Palm but it is not so seamless with the iPhone. I cannot get it to connect to Exchange, therefore I cannot email or receive attachments. Also you can only link to your desktop via WiFi. If your desktop computer is hardwired you cannot pair with the iPhone. So much for my $10 down the drain.
I used Documents to Go on my Palm constantly & almost never made real changes to the files. Personally I just liked it because it makes syncing a heck of a lot easier (you don't have to have some "sync folder") & so I can keep things @ hand w/o having to moving or copy things around.
