Intel Celeron, Core i7, and Atom lineup leaked?
The sun rises, seasons change, CPUs get faster, and Intel's plans get leaked. That's the way it works, so while this report from Digitimes listing out Intel's chip releases through the beginning of next year should be taken with a grain of salt, feel free to make it a small one. Apparently there's a new line of celery-packing Celeron processors coming in Q3 called E3000, starting with the 2.4GHz E3200 and the 2.5GHz E3300. Both feature 1MB of L2 cache, 800MHz FSB, 65W power consumption, and hardware virtualization, meaning either can take you to XP-on-Win7 nerdvana. There will also be a new Core i7 960 chip with a core frequency of 3.2GHz in the fourth quarter, which is also when the nettop-intended dual-core Atom D510 will drop, while the more portable-friendly dual-core Atom D410 won't release until Q1 next year -- bad news for those who'd been hoping for a speedier netbook under the Christmas tree.

1 Mega Giga of chache, no way!
Orpheus @ Jun 15th 2009 7:20AM
Oh you stuffed it up by writing "chache"...awkward.
Tristan King @ Jun 15th 2009 7:25AM
oops :D
BobTurbo @ Jun 15th 2009 7:25AM
It is milligram stupid. Don't you know about computers? Anyway I will explain: basically, they have these little cups that catch the sweat from the midgets inside the CPU as they shift the miniature abacuses.
Tristan King @ Jun 15th 2009 7:27AM
I though upper case made it a prefix
BAWWW @ Jun 15th 2009 7:43AM
:O
A SPELLING ERROR. WOW, I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE OF THOSE!
superhobo @ Jun 15th 2009 7:58AM
BobTurbo:
It's MegaGram, stupid. That's a full metric ton of cache!
Sascha Pallenberg @ Jun 15th 2009 7:25AM
Well we won't see any netbook with these Atom processors anyways, cause these are the ones for the embedded systems, mini-itx boards, nettops etc. :)
Zane @ Jun 15th 2009 7:35AM
But will these play Cry.. *gets shot*

pew pew pew!

Well, now wait just a darn minute, the i7 will run it just fine.
Blacky @ Jun 15th 2009 7:35AM
For some reason I already know most of this info from other various website, it looks more like a compilation of leaks.
EI8HT @ Jun 15th 2009 8:01AM
compilation of leaks... doesnt that classify as a flood?
Ryan @ Jun 15th 2009 10:57AM
There is some good commentary on the leaked information here: http://www.pcper.com/comments.php?nid=7332
More than just a simple compilation. :)

Silly question but are we still on for quad-core Core i7 processors for notebooks this year or has that now been pushed back to 2010?
Chris Anderson @ Jun 15th 2009 7:41AM
I can't help but feel like all these ultra-tiny incremental product releases are just designed to milk the consumer for every single cent....where's the REAL progress with this technology? and what's a company like Intel truly capable of, if they weren't concerned with the most minor product revisions and re-packaged old tech? Am i nuts? It's not just Intel either....look at any major technology corporation.. Hell, Apple is a perfect example.
"But wait....we've added a Firewire 800 port, an SD reader, and a slightly faster processor. This is now an entirely different notebook"
Stephen @ Jun 15th 2009 7:47AM
If you go by Intel's logic, that slightly faster processor would make it an entirely different notebook!
superhobo @ Jun 15th 2009 7:52AM
No two notebooks are entirely the same.
Adderz @ Jun 15th 2009 7:53AM
I too am unhappy with Intels progress over the past 2 years, likely due to the lack of any real competition from AMD.
mirakutea @ Jun 15th 2009 9:05AM
at least 32nm stuff will be shown off at the next IDF.
Cosmo @ Jun 15th 2009 9:55AM
That sucks if Intel really is going to discontinue the Core i7 920 without a replacement for it in the same price range. If they are going to replace it with i5, it would have been nice if they worked with the LGA 1366 socket and X58 chipset. If I wish to upgrade later down the line with my X58 motherboard from my i7 920, looks like I'll have to purchase the higher end $500+ i7 processors instead. I think Intel is going to tick off a lot of people if they kill off the 920. : (

Any news on mobile CPUs line update?
xtasi @ Jun 15th 2009 9:08PM
I'm not getting the purpose of "celeron" anymore. The price difference from a Celeron and a base Core 2 Duo is $20 to $30. In a $500 laptop, is the little extra worth it for the performance?
Setnev @ Jun 16th 2009 2:30AM
Yes, yes it is. Also, the processors they are referring to are not Mobile Celerons, they are desktop Celerons and even the low-end Core 2 is better than the high-end Celeron (yes i know that is an oxymoron). The low-end Core 2 is gonna have a 1066MHz FSB and at least 2-4MB of L2. A high-end Celeron dual-core is gonna have a 533-800MHz FSB and a 512KB-1MB of L2, all of which makes a significant difference even when performing everyday tasks.
thorn2200 @ Jun 16th 2009 12:33AM
That's too bad about the mobile atom, I was hoping for one before Christmas. Andriod/ARM are looking more attractive every day...
