Is this Dell's Android smartphone ditty?
Mr. BlurryCam, meet Dell's first cellphone. At least that's what the forum jockeys are claiming on Chinese site PDAFans. We have no way to authenticate the claim but whatever we've got here is sporting a Dell logo on a Pre-esque handset running Android somewhere in China -- the country where Dell is expected to launch a new phone before the end of the year. A scenario that matches the Dell smartphone rumors to a tee.

Dell Ble ;-)
It sad still no competition for ... know what
Kevin @ Jun 15th 2009 3:25AM
Wow - looks like pretty much every OTHER smartphone out there (iPhone, Storm, Pre, etc). At least Dell is early to the party... er... yeah...
arcticpenguins @ Jun 15th 2009 3:41AM
I would rather Dell copy other phone companies then have them go design a phone based on their XPS line or Alienware lines. I mean my god, the phone would be like going back to the 1990's if they did that
Macca @ Jun 15th 2009 3:50AM
Anyone else think it looks more like the Pre? Its got those sexy, glossy black plastic curves.
Silverfoxx903 @ Jun 15th 2009 12:37PM
Ugly?

I'm intrigued... though I hope there's a qwerty somewhere.

So would we call it The Calm? As in Pre-Storm, calm before the storm? Get it :D?! Awww yeeah I killed it....
Victor Stuber @ Jun 15th 2009 8:08AM
I dont see the storm in this at all

I don't know. Dell doesn't have a good track record of supporting their gadget lineups. Axim, DellDJ, Ditty, all are pretty much abandoned. There are other Android phoens out there coming soon from companies that are more likely to keep supporting their products.
Boards of Canada @ Jun 15th 2009 5:33AM
People change cellphone each 1-2 years anyway. Unless you are stuck with a 3 years plan (Canada, im looking at you).
Dell is usualy doing an OK job with the hardware and I've got stellar service from them in the past (im in japan, maybe its not like that elsewhere). I would rather have a Dell phone than some half unknow company.
And the OS is Android... if you got a software problem, just google a bit for find a solution.
pika2000 @ Jun 15th 2009 5:50AM
@Boards of Canada: I'm speaking from experience. I have the 2nd gen DellDJ, and 1st gen Axim. I will not again buy a device from a company that will just abandon it couple years later. It's not just about the OS, it's the accessories, hardware support, warranty, etc. PDA/Smarphone is not Dell's core competency. I'd rather get an Android phone from the likes of Samsung/SE. Dell is the "half unknown" company in the smartphone business.
Intrepid @ Jun 15th 2009 3:49AM
Is it just me, or is Android the phone developer's equivalent of the YoYo, Pokemon, Digimon and/or Pogs?
B3astofthe3ast @ Jun 15th 2009 3:56AM
If it were equivalent to pokemon, every dev would be a billionare by now.
Tay @ Jun 15th 2009 3:56AM
i believe it a fake. I checked Dell if they are part of OHA (Open Handset Alliance), their website never said anything about them as a member. So i personally doubt Google would team up with Dell since Dell's PDA a flop past few years.
Theli @ Jun 15th 2009 4:37AM
You don't need to be a member to release a handset.
I also recognize that circle on the screen, it's part of the unlocking procedure used in China Mobile's build of Android.

shinrajp @ Jun 15th 2009 4:01AM
I loved the DELL AXIM, but after using the WinMo phone and now iPhone 3GS, I have already 100% abandoned the PDA. There isn't much use of it anymore coz I can't make calls with it beside skype under WiFi only connection.
Johannes @ Jun 15th 2009 4:18AM
How are you using the 3GS lready? Stevie, is that you?!
Richard Lai @ Jun 15th 2009 4:32AM
Looks like a crossover between the Palm Pre and the HTC Touch Pro2.
Zombie Ned Flanders @ Jun 15th 2009 4:44AM
Dell's AXIMs were great PDAs back in the day. Perhaps the best.
They'd be late to the smartphone party, but the party is still just getting started (especially for Android).
I'd like to see what they could do - especially in the enterprise space.
Miles @ Jun 15th 2009 5:47AM
Dell is already losing to Apple in the Laptop arena, are they that egar to lose in the phone arena as well?
superhobo @ Jun 15th 2009 6:14AM
More egar than you are to continuously make a fool of yourself.
chuuchdizzle @ Jun 15th 2009 6:37AM
can we stop using the made up word egar? eager! say it with me, E-A-G-E-R. If you're going to insult a multi-billion dollar company, please try not to look like a dumbass.
Muhammad-Oli @ Jun 15th 2009 8:09AM
Good call. I'm sick of people that fail at spelling but think they're all high and mighty. Get an education then people might respect your opinion.
scy @ Jun 15th 2009 7:44AM
As long as it doesn't have Windows Mobile then it might be worthy of some consideration
Tony Andrews @ Jun 15th 2009 8:43AM
Probably not real. The OPhone SDK was recently released, and that is definitely the OPhone screensaver with the Benzina skin. This doesn't make this automatically a fake, but the SDK would make for an easy Photoshop job.

It's black with curved edges obviously looks like a Pre since no other smart phone is black with curved edges.
YAWN! Will it run Android ?
Kinger @ Jun 15th 2009 10:19AM
Ya but the difference is that Dell will make it $49
Quikboy @ Jun 15th 2009 1:02PM
I hope it runs Windows Mobile 6.5 with and upgrade to WinMo 7.
Nick @ Jun 15th 2009 1:11PM
Let's hope for God's sake that it doesn't run Windows at all.
Quikboy @ Jun 15th 2009 11:31PM
@Nick: Why not?
Mostafa Zaher @ Jun 15th 2009 1:54PM
They should call it "Android XPS" :D lol
BioTech @ Jun 15th 2009 3:39PM
If I know Dell, they will probably make it longer than it needs to be.
(e.g. Dell Studio Inspirion XPS Phone or Dell SIX Phone)
Brian @ Jun 15th 2009 5:40PM
It's a fake. It has the old logo on it that they no longer use. Nice try mr. Blurry cam
Scarhawk @ Jun 16th 2009 5:07PM
Can somebody please give the field photographers a digicam with better macro mode? Or teach them how to hold the shutter button halfway down to focus before snapping the shot?
