Seeing how these announcements are going down live in Singapore as we speak, we've got a few sources of live pictures of Nokia's latest announcements coming in off the interwebs already; it's all raw, unfiltered footage, but that's exactly the way we like it around here. We won't know for certain until we touch it, but at a glance, the
E72 certainly looks like a worthy successor to one of the greatest phones Nokia has ever made, and the
5530 looks like the
5800 should've looked. What's everyone thinking on these?

I'm wishing the 5530 was a STEP UP from the 5800. Nokia could market this in North America and trust me, a ton of people would notice it.
darkmax @ Jun 15th 2009 12:17AM
5530 is definitely the looker.
It's funny how the blog links are either Malaysian's or Indonesian's, especially when the average Singaporean is better in English than either.
damiaking @ Jun 15th 2009 12:19AM
E72 with s60 is fine but s60 and a touchscreen don't go hand with hand is just lame lets hope that the new xpressmusic has a more touch friendly UI than the one found on 5800
Ian @ Jun 15th 2009 1:09AM
I think the 5800's UI is fine, but the home screen appears far better on this 5530. :o Hopefully 5800 users will get some sort of update that gives us more options for the homepage.
Hung @ Jun 15th 2009 12:18AM
Can't put a screen with a denser pixel count on your latest and greatest business device, Nokia? Oh bother...
varun @ Jun 15th 2009 1:00AM
+1.
Would have picked up the E72 in a heartbeat if only it had a higher res screen. 320x240 is too small for the web.
darkmax @ Jun 15th 2009 1:58AM
of 'cos we will not. After all, we at Nokia only cater to the low to mid end users, even for our so-called high end devices. For truly High end devices, please visit our Vertu specialty stores.
Kimmo @ Jun 15th 2009 3:10AM
I'm starting to get a feeling Nokia just can't, doesn't know how to. Be it a matter of engineering or just lack of skills in the design apartment. What they seem to be doing is just patching up their S60 platform and are probably anxiously waiting to ditch it altogether when the Symbian2 arrives.
G @ Jun 15th 2009 4:17AM
I think they need to keep the same resolution because of application compatibility.
varun @ Jun 15th 2009 9:45AM
They did just fine going from 176x208 (N91) to 352x416 (N80) - they just had four pixels stand in for one.
But yes, I think they're kind of standing still now, waiting for... something. Godot, perhaps.
Gad Get @ Jun 15th 2009 12:20AM
To tell you the truth, while I like the finish on the front of the E72, the E71 just has a sharper profile. So, from a purely aesthetic point of view, my preference would be for the E71.
Amrosorma @ Jun 15th 2009 12:23AM
Same.
ipodrulz @ Jun 15th 2009 12:21AM
At least there's less chrome on the E72 than the E71.
Chunky Seal @ Jun 15th 2009 2:27AM
While the D-Pad is possibly(?) an exception, those shiny parts on the E71 are steel.
Mitch @ Jun 15th 2009 2:36AM
The 'steel' coating on my D pad has faded off. Likewise at the bottom where the microphone is. I can assure the E71 is not made out of metal (other than the back cover)
Kimmo @ Jun 15th 2009 3:12AM
Yep, pretty much only the front bezel and the battery cover are some sort of metal.
holycow @ Jun 15th 2009 12:26AM
Nothing can beat the E61i's keyboard imo... I really wished Nokia would've kept the same width of its E71+ devices... oh well.
Icello @ Jun 15th 2009 12:41AM
Boring... 5530 looks awful, E72 seems like a solid competitor to the Bold, but totally for business types.
babbaganush @ Jun 15th 2009 1:09AM
the keyboard on the e71 had a nicer feel to it than the bold imo. im still waiting for that 3g curve rim. with a touchscreen or something faster than that little ball.
Michael @ Jun 18th 2009 4:54PM
I love the domed keys on my E71 (and although I haven't used them, probably also the E71x and E63, which place a rubberized finish on the keys).
And that trackball may be on its way out - CrackBerry did a demo of a new Curve unit - that 8520 Gemeni - which has an optical D-pad.
Zane @ Jun 15th 2009 1:18AM
Looks too dull and staid. And is that a QVGA screen? Nokia, we're in '09, not '06.
phytonix @ Jun 15th 2009 1:32AM
Nokia is now so 199x. At best, 2001.
Their CEO said iPhone is the wake up call.
But they still look asleep.
Cynthia @ Jun 15th 2009 1:40AM
I am definitely getting the e72. I love my e71. Can i pre order now? Ha ;-)
ran @ Jun 15th 2009 1:56AM
You might want to wait since you never know if Nokia will let you preorder at half price because of a technical snarfu.
Morten @ Jun 15th 2009 1:53AM
I had the E71, a very nice phone indeed. And this one looks like a great upgrade. I'm gonna get one of these. But i do agree 320*240 is too little.
ran @ Jun 15th 2009 1:55AM
If thats brushed aluminium buttons, I'd love it.
darkmax @ Jun 15th 2009 1:59AM
yeah, right! LOL
Sinister Joe @ Jun 15th 2009 3:25AM
Why is the screen so dark and low quality?
G. I. @ Jun 15th 2009 10:57AM
Because it's Nokia.
gartblaum @ Jun 15th 2009 2:34AM
Hope 5530 got a capacitive screen......
GnuGeek @ Jun 15th 2009 5:08AM
E72 looking Shexhy
Diggin
Lundmark @ Jun 15th 2009 5:28AM
I still can't figure out why Nokia thinks it's a great idea to build a touchscreen phone on Symbian S60. It just isn't very good, and still it continues churning out models like that.

Nice info, but I do think your comment sort of looks like spam.

Hey Nokia! where is my wireless USB and my Bluetooth 3.0? And what needs to be said or done to At Least get 256Mb RAM?

Will @ Jun 16th 2009 4:12PM
I just read on PCMag that this phone will be on the 2100MHz (Euro) 3G band, which leaves US users suffering on EDGE connections. Hopefully a US version is in the works.
Michael @ Jun 18th 2009 4:44PM
Give it a few months and they'll have a 850/1900MHz version for AT&T. Icanhaz E72-2? And anyway, you got WiFi for those rare moments you're near a hotspot. Hopefully the WiFi radio is improved, because on my E71, I lose the signal in my room, where my computer can get a signal.
