Samsung Omnia II now official: AMOLED touchscreen with TouchWiz 2.0 destined for Verizon
Although not exactly the best kept secret (we first caught wind last week), Samsung's Verizon-bound Omnia II / I8000 is now one hundred percent official, along with even more official US confirmations for the Omnia Pro B760 (Louvre) slider, Omnia Pro B7320 candybar, and the Omnia Lite B7300. Specs for the Omnia II are just a little different than what we previously heard: 3.7-inch AMOLED resistive touchscreen with WVGA (480 x 800) resolution, 7.2Mbps HSPA (or EV-DO Rev. A for Verizon's version), 5 megapixel camera, 720 x 480 at 30fps video recording, 2GB to 16GB internal storage with microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, AGPS, and TouchWiz 2.0 UI. As for the Lite, we're looking at HSDPA, WiFi, 3 megapixel camera, AGPS, and just as the name suggests, a good likelihood it'll be overshadowed by its more feature-rich brother.
Update: We can't say it's unexpected, but just to be clear, Omnia II buyers shouldn't worry about living in the past. Yahoo! Tech reports its WinMo 6.1 underbelly will be later upgradeable to 6.5.

i supposed this means that they will not release the i8910 in the u.s. kind of like how the htc touch hd didn't either.
damn that's sexy

WinMo 6.1? TouchWiz?
Do I care?
Absolutely not. Nice going tards.
err..... this article is not on the Jet, that would be the previous article.
Just why does this Omnia II only have 3mpx camera? Shouldn't it be at least 8 mpx by now? Why is Samsung going beckwards?
oops... looks like the article is wrong the camera is 5mpx
Hopefully you can still install "Today 2", because THAT is a day-to-day USABLE interface.
Touchwiz sucks. It's a bummer such a great smartphone is saddled with it.
This is going to be an iPhone killer!!!! oh wait, only a few people who don't read engadget will even know about this. Too bad.
Nice one. But it can't beat the OmniaHD...
Does anyone know how fast the Omnia II CPU is ?
Cool. Now, Samsung, how about some info about all the Android phones you keep saying are on their way?
all the things you me and everyone else wants in a phone right now:
good 10mpix camera with hd video recording
high rez oled screen
1ghz processor that can handle hd video
good keyboard
fast next gen OS (take your own pick)
wimax lte 4g and all the conneting options
.............(add whatever i missed here)
is not going to be available for at the very least 2 more years possibly 3 or more at the rate upgrades are happening.
so all you people who complain with the release of every new device just relax and be patient a couple of more years. i'm as frustrated as you but the manufacturers are going to milk this thing for as long as possible and take us all for a long and boring ride.
Are you sure it'll have a physical keyboard? Doesn't really look like it, thought I REALLY hope it does, if not that's a definite deal breaker...
Rubix
cool
I almost went for the omnis a couple months ago, but I hated the screen. Other than that it has everything I could want. I really wish I could go to hulu on my storm
Gotta say that omnia II looks pretty sweet. I'm patiently waiting for Big Red's android offering but this one (and 6.5 capabilities) might win out. Guess it's just up to who's first out of the gate.
i think everyone forgets the one thing that is great about windows mobile. you can do anything you want to it! dont like touchwiz.. remove it, dont like 6.1... remove it and flash it with something else... i'm still running 6.0 took off all the bloatware that att put on it... i have 62mb available to run anything i want. which makes it run very fast. dont like windows mobile ui? dont use it.. i use mobile shell 3.0. works and flows like a charm. .. so it makes me very very very horny when i see these specs considering i'm on only 400mhz.. inset non glass screen...3 megapixel camera that doesn't shoot fast enough ....etc...
I CAN'T WAIT!!!
Where does it say it is coming to Verizon?
I'm a tool. I'm voting myself down for not clicking on the Yahoo! link.
niiice
whoa
Windows 6.1 so only 65k colours does Win mobile 6.5 let you display more colours??
Does any one know what the maximum amount of colours thatn can be display with Win Mobile 6.5???
Looks really cool
Check out this review I always hated Samsungs touchwiz but I love what they have done here & still under construction..

is WiFi not the most impressive feature of this "verizon" phone
No words on price yet ?
Such a nice phone yet verzons gonna slap a 30 dollar data plan with it...
Any phone that runs Windows Mobile HAS to use a resistive touch screen because the software isn't built finger friendly, therefore it lets you use a stylus. iPhone's UI on the other hand IS finger friendly so they can use a capacitive touch screen =)
Like The last i910 Omina battery life after 6 months with full internet I get 15mins of battery life. ON A FULL CHARGE!! And I called verizon wirless and samsung with no help WHAT SO EVER! So even with the AMOLED display, The new phone won't be any better.
I was with Verizon wireless for over 13 years and leaving to ATT wireless. Just better phones and cheaper prices. I will save over 30 bucks with all the same stuff PLUS unlocked GPS. I know verizon is slowly releasing the GPS on there newer phones now. But VERY little WAY to late.
BYE VERIZON...Maybe in a few years when you stop with the bull crap and start getting with the program.
everyone who complains about the winmo interface....change it. it is changable. install spbms3 or an iphonez theme. then you have superior hardware and a userfriendly interface as well.
After Hamidxa completely shut me down with his comments, I had to re-look at myself and my comments about Microsoft and this ad they were mean and I felt bad about that, after all Apple ran a whole series of ads that took pot shots at Microsoft and Windows Vista.
Perhaps for the context of this debate we compare what is commercially available, that means what would be on the laptops that were available in the ad. This would be Windows Vista and Mac OS X Leopard and leave the next generation operating systems or previous generations out of the argument.
I can't argue with anybody who says that the direct hardware comparison is in the ad is incorrect. But feel free to tell me who buys a computer with out software on it? In the ad Giampaulo doesn't say that he will be loading anything else onto the machine so we can assume that what is listed on HP's website is that Giampaulo got Windows Vista.
Now also based on what is on HP's
(http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/HDX16t_series/3/computer_store)
website we can also assume that he is getting what every one else gets with Windows Vista a set of basic applications, nothing that would allow a Tech Savvy user to do anything special.
Now for the scope of this debate I won't be comparing basic applications, (e.g. Web Browsers, Emal, address and calendar etc) if we assume this and we must hold the Macbook (http://www.apple.com/macbook/) to the same conditions, then what comes on the Macbook?
(taken from Apple's website: http://www.apple.com/macbook/software.html)
Bootcamp - For those times when you need to use a Windows application, Boot Camp lets you start up your Mac in Windows.
Time Machine - Backing up your files has just gotten a lot easier. See how your system looked on a given day and restore files with a click.
iLife '09 - iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, iDVD.
So it seems to me that out of the box that if you actually want to do anything with the machine without downloading any extra software than the Macbook does seem to be a better value proposition. ;)
I found an online petition to try to get Verizon to release the phone sooner:
http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/vriznphnrls/
Price isn't that bad too I found it on http://selectgsm.com for $739.98
its already available for purchase http://www.selectgsm.com/samsung-i8000-omnia-ii-unlocked-phone-mobile-phone-pr-16917.html
a bit too much for me i'll wait for few weeke's.
I just baught the OMNIA... I hate the battery life, the un standard connection and the missing audio jack. Iam sure there will be more things but for now...
SHould I return it and wait for the OMNIA II ?
Can this one be charged vis the USB cable? if so can you tell me how? I have pugged it in and it does not work...is there a setting I have to change?
Thanks,
Paulo
