Nokia certainly took its launch lineup seriously ahead of CommunicAsia's grand opening in Singapore this week with the launch of the
5530 XpressMusic and
E72, and considering that, we're willing to bet that Sony Ericsson would want to make a similarly big splash when it holds its press conference on Wednesday -- but what could it be? The
Satio and
Aino are already out there, so it seems like the odds-on favorite for announcement here would have to be the well-leaked
XPERIA X2. If the leaks turn out to be spot-on accurate, we're definitely not sold that the phone's any better-looking than the
X1 it replaces, but then again, it'd be awfully hard to argue with an 8.1 megapixel cam and OLED display running Windows Mobile 6.5, even if you're not a WinMo kinda person. The action kicks off at 4:30PM Singapore time, which works out to a torturous 4:30AM for you New Yorkers -- so just how badly do you want to see it possibly unveiled, eh? And more importantly, how peeved will you be if it isn't?

Well blu-ray won out which was pretty important to them and they make some awesome plasma tv's.
hd-dvd was meant to be better than blu-ray tho.. and plasmas suck? LCD panals can reproduce the same, if not better, contrast ratios, refresh speeds etcetcetc.. my screens nice, but the whole 200hz thing daft.. cant tell the difference?
Sony Vaio computers are rather nice in design, if you've ever used one.

In terms of style and design, the X1 is one of the best smartphones out there. Why not refine the X1's exterior (and fix its problems with cracking plastic) and really improving its core hardware while keeping its beastly battery life? Some OMAP3 or Tegra loving? Pleases?

Or better yet, why not just use an actual smartphone OS, that has been tested for quite a long time, has thousands of applications, does Exchange, integrates with a lot of Microsoft products, and even has a mobile Office suite. Oh yeah, it's already there in the form of Windows Mobile 6.5.
I think UIQ was quite similar to their own OS's interface. Too bad it died, but at least they're still using Symbian.

I think it will have winmo, but they will release another, near identical handset (x3, x4, x5? ) later with android. it doesnt look too bad... the keyboard looks like a laptop keyboard.
if it did have android though, it would be... KICKASS!!!

Why can't they just put android on new Xperia.
They might be waiting until the os reaches 2.x, remember that most, but not all, people see android as an immature os.

God I hate this phone about to be announced because it's not an iphone. I wish it was from Apple, then I could maybe start to see after a week or so that the features make sense and I was wrong. But sadly, this is from SonyEricsson, which means it's not from Apple and I can't love it I think. I wonder what Apple will launch next year so I can think about it some more. I like thinking about things.

There is definitely a lot of fantastic new windows mobile devices and smartphones coming out this summer. There has been a lot of buzz around the HTC Touch Pro 2, Diamond 2, the X2 and Samsung Omnia II, all which are really great devices leveraging the power of windows mobile. I am excited to see all of these running 6.5 and dreaming of what is next in v 7.
