Viewsonic announces three new 3D projectors

Good news, 3D fanboys and girls, looks like Viewsonic's back on the scene with a clutch of 120Hz 3D-enabled projectors. The first new model, the PJD6381, looks to be aimed at schools and businesses, with an extremely short throw ratios (around .68) for reducing shadowing effects, and a number of interactive whiteboard options. Available in August, this guy has 1024 x 768 XGA resolution, 2,500 ANSI lumens, a 2,500:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and is compatible with the both Texas Instruments' DLP Link and NVIDIA's 3D-Vision 3D technology -- expect it to have an MSRP of $1,249. The PJD6211 and PJD6221 ($849 and $899, respectively) also sport 1024 x 768 XGA resolution, as well as up to 2,700 lumens, a 2,800:1 contrast ratio and both DLP Link and 3D-Vision compatibility. These two should hit the stores some time in July.

When will this played-out fad from the 50's die?
Information Central @ Jun 15th 2009 5:12PM
Probably about the same time as the played-out misuse of apostrophes when trying to make a plural.

saintkamus @ Jun 15th 2009 4:08PM
Very underwhelming, this is no different from the one they announced (did they even release it?) when 3dvision came out.
You're a LOT better off, finding two really good and cheap 720p projectors and build a polarized rig for about the same price.
Superior 3d experience (no flicker), better light output, but most importantly, MUCH better picture quality.
Information Central @ Jun 15th 2009 5:14PM
EXACTLY.
1024 x 768? WTF? What year is this?
yezzzir @ Jun 15th 2009 10:06PM
What type/model of projectors would be good for rigging a polarized 3D setup?? I've wanting to this for the longest...just don't know how to go about it...some detailed info would be appreciated!
Christopher @ Jun 16th 2009 10:11PM
I concur. I have my own 3D setup at home. I record the 3D video with dual HD camcorders, and I have a 3D-ready DLP that I view the videos on. If there is one thing I have learned when recording my videos, it's that pixels matter; the more realistic the picture looks, the better 3D effect you get. You are much better off getting twin $700 720p projectors and using passive glasses (they're more convenient, anyway, because the glasses do not require batteries, as this seup will).
Peace!

Gives a whole new meaning to "Shreddin' Carrot"!
Anyone?

Cellien @ Jun 15th 2009 4:33PM
Can we use this with Blu-Ray movies or what?
fastm3driver @ Jun 15th 2009 5:15PM
Why they sell projectors with anything but 1280X720, 1366X768, or 1920X1080 is beyond me.
hitmeonmybeepa @ Jun 15th 2009 7:16PM
i almost shit myself when i saw flaming carrot, hes my hero!
polo @ Jun 15th 2009 7:20PM
And what type/brand of projectors would be good for this? Been wanting to do a 3D projector setup for the longest but don't know how to go about it...
Chief @ Jun 15th 2009 7:25PM
The guy in the middle is one of the judges from America's Got Talent. Not the Hoff and not Ozzie's wife, the other one.
