Kingston got all the bragging rights by rolling out the
first 128GB USB flash drive but, with that business now out of the way, other companies are now free to try to one-up 'em, and
Edge Tech looks to be among the first to take a crack at it. While it does away with some of the added security and ruggedness of Kingston's offering, Edge Tech's latest DiskGO drive does match that magic 128GB storage capacity, and you will still get a seemingly durable aluminum housing, along with some basic encryption software for a bit of extra protection. Most importantly, however, Edge Tech's drive is more than $150 cheaper than Kingston's. Unfortunately for you and us, it's still $390. Look for it to start shipping on July 31st.
"You and Us." ...UBS.
Subtle advertising?
I'd rather carry a netbook around with a spinning harddrive to hold that much space...
Why not just buy an old 120 gig ipod 5th gen? i use my old 30 gig for storage
Bring on the 1TB
Ya srsly.
Hmm put 8 of these on a keychain and pay $3000
or pay $100 for 1tb of external spinning platters
choices choices.
hopefully 1TB thumb drives are USB3 based...
Why buy this when I can get a 2.5 inch Usb or Firewire, or Esata powered external hard drive with higher capacity all at a cheaper price?
Because! ...Because... Well, because... Ummm... Yeah...
because your external HDD wont fit in your pocket. unless of course, you have monster pockets
Because I Can Drop this without worrying about data damage
This is easier to carry. Easier to ship. Easier on laptop batteries.
Shall I go on?
No, it's not for everyone. Not even for ME at this price, but there's definitely a market for it.
Now..... if ssd prices fell this fast ...
Back in my day, we paid that much for 128 MB flash drives! And we liked it that way! Liked it fine!
Back in 2005?
no moving parts? compact?
Hehe no sales for kingston :).
You underestimate the vanity of mankind. Biggest and baddest will always have a customer. Just like people in the next few days paying $1000+ for an iPhone 3G$, instead of waiting a few weeks.
Well your point is valid, but I still don't like anybody that uses $ instead of S's for things.
A fool and his money are easily parted - half the world is literally built upon on this principal.
the S replacement is basically saying that you are anti capitalist.
I wouldn't want one with that much space, for that kind of money unless it was USB 3.0
unless I am missing something special here - microcenter has a 32GB usb flash drive for $70.
You are sadly.... And its the ability to read...
It clearly says 128GB NOT 32GB
I'd like one!
Honestly, I don't think $390 is that bad... for being able to carry 128GB on your Key chain! Man how far we've come..
not sure why I capitalized the K in key chain
Are they serious? I understand the fact it comes in a small form factor, but you can get a premium OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD for $375! Not to mention for the same price, you get could a 60GB Vertex SSD for your laptop AND a 32GB USB flash drive!
Yeah, I'm not sure why these things are actually more expensive than SSDs. I guess it's kind of a novelty thing.
I remember this bad boy from a few years back!
http://news.softpedia.com/news/The-5-740-64-GB-USB-Flash-Drive-37628.shtml
And my first one of these was a 32 MB model that I got for about 150.00 bucks in 2000!
Look people, it's $390 right now, it'll be $300 when school starts back up, $200 by Christmas, and by this time next year, 16GB drives will be the minimum you can buy (for $10 minus $5 mail-in-rebate), and these things will be $99.99. Then you can complain about how the 512GB flash drives cost $400...
I have 32GB usb stick and it takes forever to transfer files. It just takes to long to transfer 30GB of data to it.
I can wait on on a 128GB USB stick until USB 3.0 is standard. By then the price should be reasonable for me.
It'll get cheaper.
Give it time.
Why do these resemble the Patriot models?
C'mon, people are really thinking 128Gb on a thumb drive for under $400 is to expensive!!
I paid $310 for a 128MB sd card when SD first came out.
