ContourHD helmet cam now shipping for aggro dads everywhere
Some dads like grilling, some dads like football, and some dads like tacoing wheels on rocky downhill mountain bike runs. For that latter group (and any other similarly action-oriented folks of either gender), the VholdR ContourHD is now shipping just in time for Father's Day -- and the summer injury season. The 720p wearable cam was announced back in April and we recently received one for in-house testing. We'll provide our full impressions on it soon, but for now enjoy the thrilling red-light footage after the break captured at last week's Brammo Entertia test ride, or go ahead and pick up your own. MSRP is $299.99, but Amazon's selling them for $20 less and throwing in a $50 gift card to boot -- savings that will do little to offset the cost of fixing your broken clavicle if you don't take it easy on the whoopties.

That screams GEEK!!!!!
Just like that $20 Tony Hawk helmet cam but in 720P!
They should toss in a mount for rear view mirrors... This is perfect for car accidents...
The days of insurance companies jacking up auto rates are over...
Good to see Tom Brady modeling for something other than Stetson.
i want one!!! truly screams geek hahaha!!! but still cool!!!
White people are funny.
I think I'll use it while grilling. Get a first person view of my kiss the cook apron and Birkenstock sandals.
The headline is WRONG. Amazon will only shipt this item within the US. Please remember that there is a world outside the US.
you sure???? nawwwwwwww
Can you prove this?
Amazon might not be shipping outside the US but I got mine from my local bike store here in Sydney. Just had to wait weeks and weeks on a waiting list. Seems that every bit of stock they get they sell out straight away.
Again, what a nice beard.
His beard is very hot. I wanna see this dude sans helmet.
i lol'ed at both of you.
Forget the helmet... that guy's freaking hot! LOL
Not!
Funny you post this, I was just looking at the Oregon Scientific cam. About $80 or so.
I WISH I had one two weeks ago when I was assaulted by three young men. The prosecutor could use the video. I do have still photos, at least. Lucky THEM that they didn't escalated, since I carry two loaded handguns with 30 rounds of ammo. So, I am looking to get something like this asap.

It's called Oregon Scientific ATC2K.

Watch this video. It's waterproof.

No! Link to photos of you having the restraint to not whip out two loaded hand guns while getting wailed on by some street punks!
Amish,
Very frankly, I am still working with the prosecutor on the case. I DO have photos of the guys. But I can't post anything further, due to it being an active case. Sorry.
But, that is the reason I am looking at in-car (helmet?) cams as well. I am recovering from cancer and I am pretty much defenseless save for my Glock and pocket pistol. But, I was restrained and got out unscathed. Trust me, the surgeons hurt me far worse than those guys did.
Seriously, you carry a Glock and you don't ask those punks if they feel lucky? What is wrong with you?
That's not very responsible. Once they KNOW about my gun(s), is after I've placed shots as needed, and not before.
@GeekGirl Damn, lady... who pissed in your Cheerios? Got anything else besides negative comments? Geez...
NEWS FLASH: There's no O in "aggressive."
there should be.
This makes a great motorcycle cam too. The image could be a bit more stable, but I've used the previous version at Deal's Gap (Tail of the Dragon) and intend to try this one out this summer!
so in your book "great" means having a serious design flaw whereby 1/6th of the image is always going to be the side of the helmet?
I never had that issue, because I mounted it to the gas tank with a clear shot through the windscreen. It's called a "helmet cam" mostly because it is wireless, so you can attach it to a helmet without being tethered to the bike. But there are many mounts (and, if you're a DIY'er, it's not hard to fabricate your own) for putting it elsewhere. I've seen people mount them to or near frame protectors, undertail (for the "chasing the rider" view), or even in one extreme case directly on top of the headlight fairing.
I am curious though, what flaw causes the image to capture the side of the helmet, other than where you place the unit? It might do that with certain helmet shapes, if the only 'flat' spot is too far back, but you can adjust where the camera is pointing.
Hey, that guy is actually me...pretty cool, huh
crap!! Was supposed to be a reply to aidansh175
Avatar proof, please.
so where's the rest of the nanosuit....?
Any ideas on what kind of helmet/goggles those are?
Thanks.
The goggles are Smith I/O.
Cam has great video quality, but waaaaaay too much wind noise. If it is that noisy at 30mph on a scooter, I cant imagine the noise at 4x that speed on me MV Agusta F41000. Not that I condone exceeding posted speed limits or anything ;)
Funny - he rode in the streets of my old office stomping grounds 7WTC (well thats where he ended up just a few clicks north of there).
I got one. I'm not impressed with the video. The Sony based helmet cam that came as an accessory with the Archos devices a couple years ago was much better even though the resolution was only VGA and was only 30fps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sniYbfGB8Po
Granted that was during twilight, but it was actually lighter than the video looks. I am going to do some more during full daylight before I return or resell it.
You should definitely give it another test - my friends and I have an assortment of helmet cams between us and although I've only taken it out on one weekend of solid use so far -> this thing blows everything else away by a loooooong shot!
This is EXACTLY what my lil bro has been looking for for when he deploys to Khandihar next month for a year... Thanks for posting this.
