Haier H7 Android handset set for September launch

Haier may not exactly be breaking any new ground with the outward appearance, but its new H7 handset is an Android phone (which still counts for something these days), and it's reportedly on track for a launch as soon as this September -- in France, at least. Unfortunately, the phone the company had on display at CommunicAsia 2009 was just a non-functional mockup, but the final model will apparently pack a 2.8-inch touchscreen, along with a 2-megapixel camera, built-in GPS, WiFi, and, most importantly, Android 2.0 (a.k.a Donut) -- assuming it's available by the time the phone launches. No word on any release plans beyond France just yet, but the H7 will reportedly run $150 -- on contract, presumably.

Clean!
GPRS WTF?
Looks like a Magic...glossified.
I'm still preferring the U8320 over anything right now.
I need these manufacturers to WOW me! Come on you guys! =]
2.8" tft, 2.0mp. "Experience the new high"... what did they smoke? O.o
manufacturing residues
they lost me at LCD 2.8" tft
Every company that makes cell phones keeps announcing Android phones, but still, only one from any company is available in the US.
Right!?
yeah i remember when all the websites were saying 09 is a year for android blah blah we are pass the middle of 09 and still we only have 1 android device the g1 and the magic is coming but thats it only two
The US is tripping! I think I'm about to just move out the country so I can get this Android goodness!
Let's hope this company never sponsors a fishing derby.
The "Haier Flies Open" wouldn't read well.
It does look nice. Seems like a pretty small handset.
wow that looks just like the magic
so no external keyboard? Don't care just wondering. Also, what is up with the 2mp camera? What are the internal specs...Processor, graphics, ram, memory, etc?
Does mega pixel determine the quality of a picture?
No, a high mega pixel camera can still looks bad when the color and white balancing sucks. The best example is the 3.2 Mpix camera in Nokia E71. Even the Nokia N95 8GB's 5 Mpix camera looks kind of fuzzy.
Oh yeah, T-Flash!!!!
Haier as a cell manufacturer is a great laundry machine maker.
This cannot be serious, no 3G in France means no need for it.
Hopefully it's better than their Ibiza Rhapsody. A $400 30GB HDD MP3 player in 2008 was destined to fail...not to mention reports of a buggy UI.
test
This one looks like a shot at the low-end smartphone market.
Someone at Google I/O said they expect 18-20 Android phone announcements this year.
More Android = more app development and more competition for the other smartphones. Good for everyone.
I'm still waiting for the killer OLED, media processor tablet...but that's probably 6 months away since higher-resolutions won't be supported until the next Android release.
Rebranded HTC Magic, or knockoff?
exactly what I was thinking. it's pretty much the exact same.
sweet!
I kinda saw the info box says GPRS/GPS. Why put them together. the only thing they have in common is the letters.
It makes it seem like they dont know anything about cellphones.Doesnt look very professional.
So, wait, does that mean Android 2.0 will be out in September, too?
So 20-something comments, and not a single one about the outrageous similarity to the Magic/MyTouch?
I count 3. Were you trying to make a joke?
Don't forget the stolen Motorola send/end buttons.
I count ONE. The rest must have been made as responses...
Does it come with an on board air conditioner?
2.8" is getting pretty small for a device that relies on a virtual keyboard. The 3.2" screen on the G1/Magic is already a little too small to use the portrait keyboard with an acceptable level of accuracy.
I have a Haier refrigerator and its pretty awesome. :)
Wait, what did I miss? Aren't these the guys that made my wine bottle cooler?
Stupid Chinese Rip off~~ Be careful, the battery may explode!
NO ! Leave that to Sony and Dell.
Jesus, if Haier's phones are like their crap ass air conditioners that I used to install, I would stay VERY VERY far away from this thing!
Seems nice, if only it would run Windows Mobile 6.5...
This is definitely the year of new smartphones across the globe. It will be interesting to see how the French take to the new H7 running android. The tech specs are not very exciting, especially when you have got high end windows mobile phones like the touch pro 2, diamond 2, HD, M900, F900 and many others.
