Actually, not "Finally". Started upgrading around 11:15, 30 minutes later it finished updating and gave an error saying "We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. An unknown error occured (-4). This was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
Looks like I will have a brick once again after updating because the Apple servers cannot handle the load. Hope I will not have an 8 hour wait like I did after updating to 2.2.

Same here. Got it downloaded, but once it extracts iTunes tells me it can't contact the activation servers and I have to try back later. Gimme my update, dammit!

You just can't make some people happy, you get a free iBrick phone app and all you can do is complain about it.
This is why "Activation" should be limited CDMA phones or sim cards for network setup activation. Phones should never need "Activation" just to work after an update.
it would be cool if they could integrate iwork and ilife into next version of iPhone OS

The download is not yet available here in Turkey, too. I couldn't find any information about it in Apple web site.

I have the 3.0 GM release also. I don't think we need to update, it's the exact same build number. Itunes won't recognize an update is needed since there is no software newer than what you are using.
Having the same build number is, indeed, the *definition* of a GM ("Gold Master") release. :)
There must be a slight difference as the GM requires you to be a dev :)

My guess is that any apps from the app store will be just fine. You will probably have re-install every app from the jailbreak installers. And yes in the latter case (jailbroken apps) you will probably lose the data, but I have been surprised what sticks around.

hey you guys see i have my iphone with the 3.0 software and i compared it with my brothers 2.2
and it turned out that the 2.2 software was faster to open the apps.. does anyone see the difference between the two?

Since I'm not at all saavy when it comes to jailbroken things, what will happen to my jailbroken 3G when I go to install 3.0 from iTunes?
It will no longer be Jailbroken.
Check quickpwn sometime in the next couple hours, they should have their new version available shortly to jailbreak 3.0.

I had beta 5 installed on my 3G, and it kept saying that my phone was updated.
I used the manual DL link and Shift+Restore, installing right now.
